Hello ! I'm a fan of JDFlorez just like you and I'm so happy to see that so many people adore him, he's quite unique, he's an amazing artist. But on the other hand I'm very sad to see how the so-called experts analyse, criticize, judge him, compare him to other tenors, past or present, place him under the microscope as if he was some sort of new bacteria. They even mock his friendship with the great Pavarotti and insult him in every possible ways . I wish everybody would see his great talent, the same manner we see it, but I realized it's a waste of time to try to change something about people's mental attitude. We cannot discuss upon one's taste, but only narrow-minded, frustrated people can reject something or someone that is new and totally different from everything they saw or heard before. Actually, people do this all the time.

I'm just an average listener, not a connaiseur of belcanto, I cannot pay attention to singing technique or other things. To my shame I discovered JDF quite recently , you may call me an ignorant. He was invited to sing in Romania, in Bucharest on the occasion of an yearly event that celebrates our capital city. The concert was broadcasted on TV during last Christmas and I was charmed, fascinated by his singing, by his presence, it was like someone put a spell on me. I grew up with Pavarotti and Domingo's music whom I could watch on TV. Unfortunately the opera music is not promoted in my country, I no longer live in Bucharest but miles away, My two little girls keep me busy, so I can no longer afford to go to the opera. I've never been an opera addict, but now I became one, thanks to JDF. I became a JDF addict, I watch videos of him on youtube, from time to time, he's one of the artists who really touched my soul , who made me feel happy while listening to their singing. JDF is a complete artist, is a complete package (if I'm allowed to put it this way): fantastic voice, amazing stage presence, very good acting skills, musicality, fascinating personality , Latin charm and most of all, human quality. I'm really sorry if my confession bored you, it came as a relief , I hope you understand my point. All the best !

Roxana Lita Very good explanation my friend. I also think that he has a great voice indeed. Not since Alredo Kraus have I heard bel canto sung so well. I'm also a fan of the great Romanian Soprano Ileana Cotrubas. My wife bought me her Traviata & we just fell in love with her absolutely beautiful voice. Also Angelina G. Excuse me. Bellini is the ultimate Master of Operatic Composition in terms of Vocal Legato. The way he bound phrase to word, note to thought, breathe to support. His compositions ever live to work with and serve the singer making his compositions a delight to sing and to behold. I have never seen or heard Juan Diego Flores perform better than in this moment. So tender. So gentle. Virtuosic. Handsome. Flowing with time and never against it. Nino Machaidze. Shockingly beautiful in demeanor and presence. Her pianos slice through the chorus and orchestra as the generous sound eclipses the tumult and stands high filling the uttermost spheres with her fervent glory. A feel good duet that speaks of love when it is a flame dancing upon embers smoldering.

Opera meravigliosa del grande Bellini, il più grande creatore di melodie , riconosciuto da un grande ( Verdi) che, in quanto creatore di melodie, non era secondo ad alcuno. Non avevo mai sentito questa meravigliosa aria cantata dal grande Juan Diego Florez, puro godimento. Forse un filo troppo lenta la cadenza. Ma l' immortale melodia belliniana è ugualmente stupenda. Chissà cosa sarebbe stato capace di comporre Bellini se non fosse morto molto, troppo giovane. La sua progressiva ascesa verso l' immortalità con opere sempre più belle e struggenti lo avrebbe portato ad essere giudicato il più grande compositore di sempre

I would generally agree with you that his voice is more suited to the bel canto roles, tailor made for a lyric tenor, but there is an amazing DVD of Flores singing the Duke in “Rigoletto” opposite Diane Damrau as Gilda. “Rigolleto” was from Verdi’s early phrase of composing when he was still heavily influenced by Donizetti, a pure Bel canto maestro he greatly admired.

Juan Diego Florez é com certeza um dos melhores Arturo da historia da ópera. Di Stefano, Krauz e Pavarotti, fizeram Arturo maravilhosos, mas cantaram muito pouco este papel, mais na juventude, quando os agudos eram fáceis. Bueno para todos esos detractores de Juan Diego Flórez que dicen tiene una voz pequeña que no se oye creo que aquí ha quedado plasmado que su voz es bastante potente. Hay momentos en que suena el coro, la soprano y además la orquesta y a él se le escucha fuerte y claro. Bravo Maestro.

One word; exquisite. A master class on how to sing bel canto. Florez is probably the best there has ever been, or certainly over living memory. I rarely hear of Nino Machaidze, which is a great shame, as she is so talented.
