Hans Christian Andersen and Anything Goes were great films she was in. Her performances were superb. She also did a Capitol Records recording of popular French songs, done in a format as if you would take a tour of France. She served as the tour guide and singer of some of the tunes. It really feels like you are visiting France with a friend.

I have never seen anything like it! Such amazing original choreography where the leading lady's "costume" is being held and orchestrated by supporting dancers. It wouldn't have been a success if not for the great timing and synchronicity. This should serve as an inspiration to present-day choreographers.

It warms my heart that Zizi lives on. "Mon truc en plumes" (which translates to "My Feathery Thing" but is also termed "My Thing with Feathers") was Zizi's trademark song, choreographed by her husband Roland Petit. Paris remembers them with great fondness. They captured the glamour, the excitement of Paris night life. If you loved this, I'm happy to say there is more than enough material on YT for you to go down into a Zizi deep dive.

100% agree. Love Gaga, but her performance lacked the cohesiveness of this one too. Gaga just left me thinking, “I guess maybe French people really love that song?” because I didn’t really “get” it. Came here to watch the video after reading it was meant to be an homage to this particular performance. Gaga seemed to just have dancers with cool feathers. This choreography is more cheeky and its playful “game” is immediately intuitive without needing any context at all.

@@marcelochaves6076 Pesquisei agora.

Lady Gaga has made a career at imitating the greatest originals but she still has to be one herself. Zizi’s performance is so effortlessly beautiful and refined. Wether Gaga is imitating Madonna, Grace Jones, singing The Sound of Music at the Oscars, trying to be Liza Minelli in her jazz act with Tony Bennett, channeling Bruce Springsteen in her folk phase or doing Zizi at the Olympics she always brings her own personal twist and hard work but never quite recaptures the magic of the originals she’s taking cues from.

@@delfinopensieroso2398 it’s partly true but real pioneers exist in all fields. Some become famous and some don’t. In pop culture, Marylin, Piaf, MJ, Madonna, Mariah, Whitney or Grace Jones to name just a few were true originals and I can’t find post digital era artist who match their impact and uniqueness Not even Beyonce whose trademark could be the research of African American history maybe but nothing as instantly definable as those I’ve mentioned before. Gaga’s monster gimmick and horror electro blueprint is her own thing but overall she comes through as incredibly skilled, hard working and cerebral more than organic and effortlessly talented. This is fabulous! The choreography is so much better than what Lady Gaga did, and this is light and amusing. The background "ba ba ba ba ba ba ba da da" for Lady Gaga's performance got repetitious and annoying--that isn't the case here because it's just the music. I admire Gaga for doing the performance, but I wanted to read about where the song came from and am so glad I did--this performance really has flair and is fun to watch.

Lady Gaga did a wonderful homage to Zizi Jeanmaire. The original will always be the better yardstick so it is asinine to compare Gaga to the source. The fact that Gaga did it is reason enough to celebrate her reviving the memory of a fabulous performer who in her time enchanted the world. Zizi would have been hugely flattered.

The Gaga performance brought me here. This clip put a smile on my face from beginning to end. Amazing, and witty and charming. The Gaga performance didn’t , it seemed a bit forced and self conscious.

Well said. Gaga’s performance was eye-catching & cool to watch, but I felt like I was missing the point (assumed maybe it’s just something you need to be French to “get”). This one is just pure playful joy & fun. (I think Gaga centered her dancers more & had too many of them. The dancers being more “invisible” in the original makes it more about the feathers)

Some people love to complain, do you think Lady gaga chose to perform on those high stairs? it was a miracle she did what she did... if she had a black and white studio like in this video, she could do much more.....besides, nothing annoying about lady Gaga performance, I found it fabulous, and thanks to her I discover this french artist

She was a ballet dancer, epitomizing pure grace and class. Her performance clearly exuded more energy and strength than Lady Gaga's.
