Well, ça marche. C'est les seuls conseils qui ont réussi à me faire jouer plus doux. Enfin ! Merci mil fois Stiamh.

grma Steve. Indeed, how truly happy future festivities will be! I like your "glorified accordion" comment. I'm 7 months into my first box, a one row Hohner D, LMM. I know the C#D is next step, but no hurry... 2022 maybe. Lots to enjoy working on still, like bellows. :)

This lesson is awesome for me, because that is exactly where my accordion bounce. Thanks.

The challenge for me is that the bellows end up further apart each direction when you start adding the basses..
@Stiamh11 ай бұрын
I totally understand. Playing the basses lighter or shorter might help, but in the end the air button is your saviour.

@@Stiamh thank you - that is good advice. In my keenness to get the basses added to the tune I often forget that the treble is what carries it and where most my attention should be. I am learning that the art of the basses in Irish button accordion is minimalism. Tony McMahon was a fine example.

Great Steve, thank you! Any good exercises for playing bass?
@Stiamh4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Helen! Not really... the closest thing you'll find to an exercise is in this video, where I talk about how to get into the groove of hitting the chord on the off-beat: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKWsgI2wrNt6asU Other clips exploring using the basses: Polkas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g57ImX2pgd-UiLs Simple jig: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHbHeZSdeLGEhJo Waltz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppfLgGuqqLClqtE And this is a more detailed clip on how you might tackle the basses in the reel Drowsy Maggie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eorcp4hsfdt4fdE Let me know if these are helpful. Hi Steve, I just want to say thank you! Your videos are great. Not even for C#/D players but also for me as a G/C box player who begins to explore irish tunes! Next year I'll join the C#/D fraction, not at least because of your videos ;) Is there a possibility you can do a video for the slipjig "Na Ceannabhain Bhana"? I know this tune from a Tony MacMahon recording and I love the feeling and drive of this tune.

Na Ceannabhain Bhana is "in the pipeline" - hope to do it this week. If it's not too late!
