Violin teachers never get mad for a broken string! They should understand that sometimes a string gets loose or snaps when it gets old.

Hey! Whenever i try tuning one string, the other string seems to get lower or looser. You know any fix for this?
@violinlounge2 жыл бұрын
Try to bring some tension on all strings before you fine tune, otherwise one string will pull the bridge too much. More tips at www.violinlounge.com/tuner

Thank you Zlata. How come we don’t take them off all at once? What happens when we do that?

You'll have the bridge in your hands and because of the release of tension your soundpost can collapse.

Even if the string is just broken on one spot, it needs to be replaced.
@ezotic10932 жыл бұрын
Yes but if you push the peg into the pegbox wouldnt it expand the peg’s hole, making it not fit after a while?
@violinlounge2 жыл бұрын
That's what happens anyway and after a long while of playing and tuning the wholes need to be made smaller again by a luthier.

May I ask what does the pencil on the bridge do? I have never heard of this… does it have to be a certain pencil?
@violinlounge2 жыл бұрын
It leaves a bit on the bridge and makes sure that the strings can slide over the bridge while tuning.

I'm so sorry if having your accent pointed out makes you uncomfortable, however I can't help but latch onto how you said "loosen the peg" because of how subtle your accent colors the words. Not at all meaning to make fun, I'm just a very casual linguistics nerd and find fascination in how one language's rules reveal themselves when speaking a secondary language _when the mouths that speak it are functionally identical regardless of native language._ Regardless, I'm happy to have found this video because little things like this are always good to know in life. I've barely touched these instruments _because_ of how little I know about them. They seem like one of those things you get a lot out of from knowing more about it as a beginner than other instruments where knowing more isn't quite necessary for simply being able to play it, haha
