A luthier showed me how to use a silver Sharpe permanent marker to Mark the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers. (It runs off eventually) It works great bc you can't feel the tape and my fingers don't get used to the feel of it. It's helped, I

Yes, it can definitely be helpful, but it's also important to train your ears and not to become dependent on markers of any kind. Perhaps de d'Addario Micro Tuner is something for you? violinlounge.com/product-review/review-daddario-ns-micro-tuner-for-violin-and-viola/

@@violinlounge I'm good with hearing it and working on scales etc. My teacher recommended it because my fingers get lost when playing with others.

Yes, playing with others it's more difficult to find the right spots for your fingers as sometimes you can't hear yourself and have to rely on muscle memory.

Thank you for the direction. I agree with you that finger marks shouldn't be something you depend on. It is much better to depend on the ear. But I also think that stickers make placing the fingers on the board not comfortable. In the first early days of my practice I added stickers long around the finger board and I always felt they make my fingers not comfortable once I removed them at all my overall playing was much much better I couldn't believe how these stickers made my fingers shaky ..... the improvement was unbelievable

I just bought a violin yesterday and it came with a don’t fret sticker. I’ve played piano and guitar for many years so I have a good ear. Do you think I should take the sticker off? It’s ugly, and I don’t want to become dependent on it, but I don’t know if I should maybe wait a while.

My First teacher also used stickers but my second one immediately removed them. After that my hearing improved a lot. I also bought your posted with al the notes on the fingerboard that helped me a lot. Especially now when I am starting to play in other positions!

I learnt that looking at the fingerboard affects the bow hold. I briefly used it as my teacher recommended it by quickly removed them since they would go off and I realized how important using the ears is. I also prefer not to tape students. I also learnt through a comment that I can use a silver sharpie instead of stickers.

I decided to put off all the dots on my violin a week ago. lil bit confuse now but Im on my commitment to be good. haha. so I hv question. when do we can start learn vibra? some told me as soon as possible but others told me I hv to master the fingering notes first. Yeah this was very helpful. I bought don't fret a while back and it did get me into a bad habit at looking instead of listening. I want to remove it now! ~ Well, I removed it ans it was a pain. Very sticky and it left a dull imprint., hahah. My viola looks hurt, poor thing.

I don't need stickers but this helps me understand why people do. I started in 4th grade and in those days there were no stickers ! I think it's probably better not using them.
