ZMF Atticus - This is a Competent Headphone

Ha! I saw this one for sale on head-fi too. What a steal! And such a perfect entry into the ZMF house sound. I have an Aeolus, and if it weren’t for the stage and slightly more refined sound, I would prefer the Atticus in most other respects. The impact and tonal balance I find really wonderful. Great review!

What a coincidence you mentioned red dead because that is the kind of game I play too. Single player, immersive experience kind of game. I wonder which will do better and sounding more natural and immersive for gaming purposes or movies? Aeolus or Atticus?

I'm waiting for the closed variant of the Atrium. I was shopping an Eikon just before the Atrium is announced; I really want to own a biocellulose headphone and I'm super intrigued by the revisions Zach made to his. Metal571 was always a huge, huge fan of the Atticus.

I dont have in my collection ZMF headphones yet but its just a matter of time. Definitely gonna buy Atrium but open as they are, closed cans I do use but only at night if I have to and that spot is taken by T60rp Argon. Argons can be sometimes sharp at highs but I'm a person that like brighter sound, details are somehow important for me.

I also have kind of settled on the t60 Argon. The Atticus is great, but I can only listen to so many headphones. Might as well get some use elsewhere.

@@MrAyrit @MrAyrit, any good recommendations on a complementary headphone to the T60 Argon? I love mine, but would like something warm/mid-forward to complement it. I tried an Atticus for a short time and also loved it, so thinking that might be a good option?

Hi, something unrelated... would you recommend suede or hybrid zmf pad replacements for a neutral sound (both perforated)? My sundaras pads are breaking 😅

I never pad rolled with the Sundara. Are you wanting to change the sound at all? I’d probably go with the hybrid, just because that is kind of what’s on it. I would guess the suede would tilt them brighter and cooler, but that definitely isn’t guaranteed. If it were me… I’d probably buy them both and then sell the one a didn’t like as much.

I have tried the Solid Dekoni Sheepskins on the Sundaras and they were good and barely changed the frequency response from the original pads. ZMF pads are a bit more dense and thick though, so I'd probably go with the perforated lambskins for those.

@@kato2395 I ended up selling them. Are they good headphones, yea. I did enjoy to sit in my lounge chair, kick my feet up on the ottoman and listen to music with them. But I was listening to tracks off Spotify and they did sound very good. But this was my first pair of high end headphones and I found them bad to wear just using my laptop. I didn’t find them useable and for $1000+ dollars, I need them to be. I ended up buying AirPod Max. They sound fine but I can actually use them. I’m a pilot and there’s no carrying $1000 headphones the size of ZMFs in my bag on an overnight. I’m not carrying them to listen in a terminal waiting for my flight. They just didn’t work out for me. I’d love to try Bluetooth Focals though
