Great review! I've always wanted to play StarTropics specifically. This one just seems like icing on the cake for me.

I've only played the first one recently and it was pretty challenging! Haven't finished it yet but it was enjoyable! I do love that the main character lives in Seattle. That's only a 2 hour drive from where I live.

Both of these games are solid. The ending to the 1st is one of my fav NES endings. I haven't finished Zoda yet. Something happened to my game one day was I was pretty far in the game and I never replayed. The fight against the circular night was crap lol.

Great video (as always!) When browsing for games for my NES back in the late 80s i sometimes saw the box, but it didn't trigger me to inspect it further or to spend my hard earnd allowance on a game that i didn't know. When i got my Nes Classic Mini i started playing it and was hooked immediately. Luckily the NES Classic Mini had save stated because it was hard as hell with all those 'enter and die' rooms man! But i finished it, and played it again on my Raspberry Pie, and again, and again, an then downloaded a full walkthrough to experience all rooms and things i missed the other times (i missed a lot!) and then i discovered Zoda's revenge through a Gaming Historian Video! (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ_aYYafi7RsorM) and i also played that game multiple times. It improves on the first game with more variaty in settings but i don't really like the 8-directions playing type since the rest of the game is based on the original 4 way play. But it's still a great sequel and naming it 'Zoda's Revenge' was a big marketing fail....

It's like with Ironsword: Wizards & Warriors II. Why is the subtitle first? At least with that, there is a Wizards & Warriors III so you knew there had to be a II. My complaint with this game besides that fact that you are no longer on a grid, is the lack of color in the dungeons. Lots of grays and browns. The color that is there often looks off and washed out. That and the dungeons themselves feel more bland. Is it just me? And yes, I also prefer the first game over this. This game is fine but lacks the summer vacation charm the original had. The plot twist with the last chapter though is pretty neat.

You're absolutely right about the lack of colours. I did notice that as well but I didn't mention it in the video. Yeah, the final chapter is super cool.

Haha - yeah, we're all getting up there in age. It's neat how these games can bring us back.
