More information about Lara Fabian: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best. There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence: • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish) and has sung in 12 languages in total • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks. She often co-composes the music with the composer. • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens A quick background on her and her career: She is belgian, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages. She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music). in 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert. But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan. She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace" used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera topped the charts for months. Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, … With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there. Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA is now rediscovering her. She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep. He covered many of her songs (that she performed originally ; she also wrote some of these) Out of my mind I can list: • Adagio, • Mademoiselle Hyde, • Know, • Love of tired swans, She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ». She covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva) And they performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina. This is a song that she performed originally with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava then again later with Dmitriy and Sumi Jo, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida. Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy who came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him. Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs: • Floor Jansen (Adagio) • Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime) • Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie) • Morissette Amon (Broken Vow) • Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace) • Cakra Khan (Broken Vow) • Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow) • Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade) • Forestella (Je suis malade) • Almira from 4th impact (Broken Vow) • .... Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara. And attract you to explore this rabbit hole.

You forgot one singer; Jackie Evancho (Broken Vow-lyrics changed to 'Imaginer' by Lara in response to a request by Jackie's parents[lyrics too mature for ten year old Jackie] ) Jackie sang it at her first American Public Broadcast Station in Sarasota, Florida. I'm pretty sure that is still available on youtube if anyone wants to watch an incredibly precocious young girl still in Elementary School sing a Fabian song with different lyrics.

@@ericsicard910 I think it was a request for the change rather than a demand. Jackie loved the song but her parents didn't want her to sing the lyrics. I suspect Lara did it both as a favor to the young Jackie, and knowing that her song would be sung to a wide American audience. Win win.

LARA with links: Lara Fabian is a Canadian of Belgium birth and Italian/Franco/Flemish cultural heritage. Lara spent a decade in a Brussels Conservatory studying piano, composition, and voice. Lara is a full lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans three octaves (A5, B4, BB4, C3, C5, C#5, D5, E5, EB5, F5, F#5, G5) in live performances. Great reaction. You don't know it yet but you just discovered one of the greatest vocalists of all time. A legend in most Europe and in Central Asia. Many refer to her as the 4th member of the vocal trinity (with Whitney, Mariah and Celine). I will post in a separate comments more details on her background, career and the huge influence she has on the new generation of vocalists (for instance, she is THE idol of Dimash). I hope you will cover more of her songs. In this song, she exposed her magical phrasing, her vocal agility and her absolute unique ability to emote and draw you in the story of the song. Some other songs will reveal her incredible belts, her unmatched resonance (she has been nicknamed "The Ring"), but she never "showcases", her vocal skills are always here to serve the story, so she always elect to use these with a purpose. Even if you feel the emotions without the subtitle, I strongly recommend you listen to it again with the french and english subtitles (using the playlists I point you to below). She is also a fabulous songwriter (most of her songs were written by her) in the 4 languages she speaks fluently : french, italian, english and spanish. She has sung in 12 languages! You talked about singing a cry. Lara is the best in writing that line between singing and crying. She is currently the director of Star Academy Quebec and a vocal coach for the contestants and she recently said to them: "How to sing deep emotions without impacting your voice? You have to sing the emotions in your head, to feel the emotions in your heart but not it your throat. Your throat must remains free" I recommend you to listen to the following songs from this amazing concert: they all became classics and were covered by the greatest (Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, ... even Shirley Bassey) and by the new generation (cf my other comment) : - Adagio (English) - Caruso (Italian) - Broken Vow (English) - Perdere L'Amore (Italian) - You are not from here (English) - Love by Grace (English) Please use this playlist which provides HQ Videos with english subtitles when needed: kzbin.info/aero/PLV-BfzP9ln4xyPy8l43ag7hd20S9PeNiE

LETS GO ! Let's laugh a little!!!! It's such a sad song and I've listened to this version so many times, and this performance has been commented so much!!! This song made me cry because it speaks to me, like to many people... .To detach myself from this sadness, I found a trick!!!!! In French, when we speak, we don't pronounce the "e" of "Je Suis Malade", we just say "Je Suis Malad'". Of course, singing is very different. We articulate in an exaggerated way. In the original version, Serge Lama pronounces the "e", but a real "e" .......Lara Fabian opens her mouth so much, that she says ""Je Suis Maladé".The "e" in French is pronounced like "a" w"o"rld " , or "a" w"o"rd ......Now for English speakers , imagine that she does not sing , I am sick , but I'm seyck, a bit like in "t"e"ll" or "s"e"xy "!!!!! It gets funnier when all you think about is that.....Try; personally, that m helped a lot to get out of this magnificent, and so dramatic performance of Lara!!! ALLONS !

Hi Zoe. Love the Kiwis! I liked your comments on performing as well as singing. Lara's vocals are admired for their pitch and breath control, their resonance and diction. As for her performances, everything is planned and meticulouisly rehearsed. She has had a long career internationally and many of today's talented up-and-comers are learning a lot from her about expressive singing and performance. She is a regular world tourer, is still active, currently being Director of Star Academy, a vocal TV competition in Montreal. Her second most reacted- to song is Adagio, but I recommend you listen to her "Extrait de Yentl" ( in English), her performance from the concert "Pure". It's her tribute to Barbara Streisand, who is one of her main inspirations. I love Lara, as do many of the commenters below, not only for her singing but also for her generous character. As for me, I don't pass a single day without drinking from her cup, overflowing with inspiration. Cheers!

This spectacular video of her performance was from 1999. She was recognized as a wonderful talent but regionally, not globally. Because of video's like this I believe she is getting the attention she deserves more today then ever before. She is currently living in Canada and still sings but only occasionally. I'm going to assume you have heard Dimash sing and when he was a youngster he was fascinated by Lara' ability to tell a story while she sang with so much emotion. He learned well, didn't he? They remain good friends to this day. Was she a prodigy? They way Lara tells the story it goes like this: One day her father was driving their car somewhere and Lara was in the back seat (very young 6-9?) and she suddenly burst out in song. Papa was so amazed by what he was listening to he had to pull over. I can only imagine the conversation that her mother and father had later that day. I enjoyed your reaction and analysis very much. I just wish you would have run the video another 5 seconds to watch Lara continue to be standing there still trying to get out of the song.

Fantastic analysis. 👍 I know you will have people recommending two specific fantastic songs (out of a bazillion fantastic Fabian performances😁) that I too love. But I'm begging on my knees for a thorough analysis by a pro of one that is rarely reacted to. It's one she wrote, it's in English & it fascinates me. You can get a sense of her supernatural belting technique. The whole song is fiendishly difficult but she somehow keeps it sounding gentle & easy-breezy. I want to understand, badly, HOW she does what she does in it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 You're Not From Here from this same concert From Lara With Love. The chanel Macadamia has most of this concert's performances upscaled with onscreen subtitles for all the French/Italian/Spanish ones. (She's fluent/writes in those three as well as in English.) On Macadamia's chanel you'll find the Adagio, Caruso, Broken Vow, Pedere L'Amore recs as well. That last has stunning examples of dynamic control & belting as well. Honestly, I've come to think of Fabian as a vocal chameleon with an enormous toolbox of skills + supernatural artistic instincts/stage performance skills. I'll be right back with a link to You're Not From Here. 🖖🏽

I don't speak french and don't like the subtitles either, the performance speaks to my soul just the way it is. Reveting... She leaves us speechless. I mean... from where to begin, there are so many high points in the song as well as the more calm ones and that as well as her whole appearance and the devotion she gives to her art is something that takes hours to discuss as well as so admirable. No words🥺✨ And you are so right at the end, with taking your time and all. It's really important because at the end, you end up giving it your all and presenting yourself the way you would want and the way it is❤

Oh my God ! Lara Fabian ! This song , very sad , is popular on Internet. So many tears ! We really have good singers , in France. For me , the BEST SONG OF THE UNIVERSE is " Requiem pour un fou " by Lara Fabian and Johnny Hallyday. It is a live performance , under the rain. This song talks about a murder. The police is around the house. It is the night. The guy is "fou" ( mad ). The night will be bloody. Of course , for more informations , you can read the comments of the song on KZbin , Dereck reacts. Pascal from France.

I thank you, Zoe, for accessing Lara's performance of this most beautiful song. Not only is LARA one of the very best vocalists I have heard, but from a few of her songs that I have watched in only the last week or two, what a powerful performer she is too. Her stage presence is incredible. Not to mention the emotions that go with it. She was already into the song before she even started singing! It then stands also to reason why she appears physically drained in the end. You reaction was marvelous to say the least, filled with the necessary useful technical jargon yet very precise. It's always a pleasure listening and following your commentary. You one of the best and one of my favorite vocal coaches. ❤

I love this and I LOVE Laura! I have always had a theory or idea about her performances that I think really sets her apart and that’s her breaths and I haven’t heard a response in this area… We’re taught (at least in the more ‘classical’ styles of singing) that the audience should never hear you breathe. I get where that’s coming from in that your breathing should not be strained or adding tension, but with Laura I love that you can hear her little gasps and breaths! It’s almost like her breaths are notes within the songs themselves because they seam to be intentional (at least the audible ones) and don’t seam to be adding physical tension. It’s like she’s emotionally weaponizes when you will or will not hear her breath and adding a whole other level to her performance. Am I crazy? LOL How vocally healthy is this style in your opinion?

Lara is amazing yes it is a shame we are coming to the party so late. Thank goodness for social media! Usually you are taught to not make audible breath sounds if you can help it. In this song that is another layer to Lara’s singing you can hear her breaths showing the sadness she is portraying, no language is required for that. It’s akin to how someone sounds after sobbing.

and I have just watched you on an analysis for the first time. I am so happy that you discovered Lara who is an amazing performer indeed. I think that her sensitivity is her core strength and is what makes her remarkable. I believe her but I don't manage to believe Céline Dion for instance. In case you find time to be more curious about her, I suggest that you look her up in duets. For instance, you might want to look up her up with another French singer, Johnny Hallyday at one of his concerts in Paris and you would get a chance of watching her on a different kind of performance (she is as excellent as here on more dynamic songs too). Btw she reminds me of Tina Arena in her connection to her own emotions. Your analysis was great to listen too because you spot very clearly the different techniques and positions. Super job 💐

In her "Nue" tour Lara did a "Tango" live performance that can make most men wish they were a chair. For other French pop music, you could try one from Zaz. She's another great live performer. From her new album I like "Le Chant De Grives" Zaz's 1st big hit (2010) was "Je veux" (in Eng. 'I want,' or "I insist on") You might like the subtitles for "Je veux" the song's a hoot. There's also a young singer, Barbara Pravi, who covers a French Hip Hop song from Big Flo and Oli called "Dommage" very well. Barbara sang "Voila" in the Eurovision 2021 grand final round. Oh, and if you'd like to hear Lara sing a song very few vocalists should ever try to cover, it's "You're Not From Here " from the same concert as "Je suis malade"

Actually, the head movements when she sing louder is really important when singing with a microphone. She need an extra push from her belly and lungs to make it sound like she wants, but it need to be a little away from the mic. And it's a way to avoid larsen and saturation too. ( Little advice from a sound technician)
@ZoeStibiVocalCoach
@ZoeStibiVocalCoach 23 күн бұрын
Ah great to know! It isn't about a push from the belly though, when we sing louder it is more of a push from the intercostal muscles around the ribs. But I understand what you mean. ;) My job is always to help singers interpret what the sound technicians and directors want to have ;)
@rodolphephelouzat2637
@rodolphephelouzat2637 23 күн бұрын
Ok I see what you mean about the muscles. 🤘 There are many technics when singing in a mic, when in studio session, and in live. When in live, it's much difficult to have a proper gain, so there are a lot of technics to avoid saturation and pick up from other sounds or instruments. When in studio, it's much more about 'perfection', I think a singer need to learn both.

Hello from Italy. I advise you to listen and react to "Adagio" Italian song but there is also live version in English. This he composed on the basis of the "Albinoni".Tomaso Giovanni (Zuane) Albinoni (Venice, June 8, 1671 - Venice, January 17, 1751) was a historical Italian composer and violinist. PS Lara Fabian is also our pride as an Italian mother (from the Sicily region) and a Belgian father. Then if you also find "Perdere l'amore" and "Caruso" other Italian sacred monsters always interpreted by her in an excellent way.

Je suis malade (song) The real story of the song When the song was written, Lara Fabian was only 3 years old. Je suis malade is a song by Serge Lama, released in 1973 as a single and on the album Je suis malade. Written by Serge Lama on a music composed by Alice Dona, the song became the most emblematic title of the repertoire of Serge Lama who regularly takes it on stage 3. History The song Je suis malade was inspired by a real heartbreak of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love was a certainty, but neither of them was free: he had married Daisy Brun, his press agent, in 1968, and she was married and had a son. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedom, but Michèle hesitates and finally flees him and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick. Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona, composes in a few hours a melody [...], that very quickly, she makes the singer listen. It was a revelation and Serge Lama wrote almost the entire text in one go. He will say later "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame [...] it came out of my heart so much that I [...] immediately felt that this song had something that the others didn't have". However, nothing is done. His record company Philips does not believe in the song and to impose it Lama threatens to leave if he is refused to record it3. He wins his case and soon Je suis malade is released as a single. Unfortunately, the radio programmers prefer the B side, the lively and cheerful song Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle which becomes a hit6. At every opportunity, however, Lama sings Je suis malade, on television, on stage [...], recognition will come, not (in this period), through him, but from a cover by Dalida very touched by the subject of the song and whose inspired and desperate interpretation will seduce the public. After that, Serge Lama's popularity was turned upside down and he definitely became a recognized and popular singer-songwriter4. Many years later, the artist confides: "An LP of Serge Lama at the time it was worth 4000-5000 albums [...] But after Les Ballons rougesNote 1 it is 1 million4." Recognition came for the creator of Je suis malade, in 1974, when one evening on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, Serge Lama completed the song by interpreting it without a microphone a cappella in front of an audience conquered by a triumph. Another happiness, the return of Michele, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frederic in 1981 and marry ten years later8. Michèle died in 2016 at 71 years, victim of a stroke9. Her death gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on stage says: "Every night when this song comes, I know it is an obstacle that must be jumped [...], it usually takes me a minute to recover [...], this song deserves to be given everything". Words on behalf of the father Je suis malade is doubly autobiographical for the singer-songwriter who includes in this story of desperate love feelings from his childhood. The anger, the suffering that Serge Lama expresses with the verses "I am sick as when my mother went out in the evening, And that she left me alone with my despair" or "I am like an orphan in a dormitory". These words to the attention of his lover to whom he reproaches his decline, it is in fact to his mother that he addresses them, casting himself in the skin of his father, formerly a singer of operetta in search of success, who, pushed by his wife, gave up his career [...]. This father to whom Lama "lends his voice" when he claims: "You deprived me of all my songs, You emptied me of all my words, Yet I had talent before your skin. This period of his childhood, Lama has already evoked it in the song half sweet and half bitter Le temps de la rengaine (in 1968 it opens the album D'aventures en aventures): "[...] Mama dreamed that she had a real kitchen, While Daddy was barking at the Capucines, It was a nice time that this time [...], One day daddy sold margarine, So that mommy could sing in her kitchen, It was a hard time that time, I have tears in my eyes when I think of all that". :) Und I hab denkt I red mid oanara in Neuseeland... :) Btw.: kleiner Tippfehler in Deiner Bio, falls Du den berichtigen magst..."In 2017 Zoe suffered a vocal fold hemorrhage & polyp which turned her world inside out. After an operation & vocal therapy her voice is now back better than ever, but with a greater appreciation for how the voice works & a greater respect her her students progress." (greater respect HER HER students...) - Da hast Du ganz schön was durchgemacht, kann ich mir vorstellen, freut mich dass Du genesen und daran gewachsen bist :) Hast Du hierauf reagiert, oder welcher Song war es? Can't wait...
