The gold stuff is called tinsel! You can snap off the individual strands to drape on the ends of the branches, there are great pictures online of vintage trees from the 60s/70s to help inspire anyone looking to do this!

As somebody that also long suffered with mouth ulcers, what I eventually found was I had a sensitivity to a chemical in most toothpastes. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (they're the same thing). I switched to sensitive teeth toothpastes (in the US I use Sensodyne) and pay attention to the ingredients list for those chemicals. Just a suggestion if it's a regular struggle, in addition to cutting out acidic drinks/foods.

I’m watching you putting the gold colored streamers on your Christmas tree. In America we call them icicles. They were almost a necessity when I was young (I’m 81) and usually were silver. Alfie, try a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate. Foaming agents in toothpaste such as sodium lauryl sulfate can help with cleaning, but people predisposed to sores should avoid them as they can be a contributing factor to recurring mouth ulcers. Hope this helps.
