You make a good point about how the stabilizer can hide problems with the plane. But, In a newbies, case.. that might be a good thing.. otherwise... a balance problem or trim problem could cause the plane to immediately crash into the ground with out the stabilizer on the maiden flight. Experienced pilots know what to look for, but when you are learning... sometimes you miss those points. So a flight stabilizer can be a double edged sword. With my XK A1200, I recently crashed it for the first time, after trying to wean myself from the stabilizer. I would shut it off.. and if I got into a jam.. I flipped it back on... Last flight... I was too late.. and plane slammed into the earth.. lol. Learning.. always learning.. great video.. thank you.

Ghehe yes sir :) always learning :) a Good way to get rid of the rough edges (being to fly at least a bit) is using a simulator.. But yes.. a stabilizer can save the day.. Thank you so much for detailed Installation guide! 👍 I bought a Kopilot Llite together with a Zohd Drift. Unfortunately, I‘m having big problems getting a connection to the Kopilot. I‘m using a Crossfire Nano + Taranis QX7S + Crossfire module. The Connection between Crossfire Nano and Crossfire Module seems to be fine (solid green light). I‘ve created a simple 4 Channel model in my Taranis and added a 3 way switch as channel 5. For the transmitter output, I‘ve selected external and Crossfire. With this setup, no input reaches the Kopilot. The Kopilot is permanently in balanced mode (flashing green light). I can select different plane types using the set button of the settings board in this mode, but this does not solve the issue. Surprisingly, this setup worked before I played around with small settings board. It seems that - by accident - I‘ve messed something up within the Kopilot. Is there factory reset for the Kopilot available. Can you provide some hints for troubleshooting this issue? 🧐

Howdy there! sorry for the late reply :$ soooo the output of a crossfire receiver isn't Sbus (which is what the Koplit expects).. could that be the issue? You Can let the crossfire receiver output Sbus I think, but have not tried that myself.. did you look into this?

Hi! Great video. Questions: 1. My wing flies well in normal mode. It flies also well in stab mode but I have almost no control in this mode. The travel of Ail and Ele is much less in this mode, almost nothing. Why? Using a frsky taranis q7. 2. For the throttle to work on my controller I have to inverse it (weight -100 on Taranis). 3. I cannot calibrate the plane (sticks inside and down). The green leds won't flash after 5 seconds. Thanks.

I have a couple of more complex stabi's.. those can be configured more, but are harder to get going... 1. low amount of control: yes, indeed Lower.. In planes with aggressive controls it works best.. 2. hmmm not sure.. I've only used them with the Flysky PL18.. I have not had to reverse throttle 3. that is most probably an end-point issue. Thanks man and very strange! I have not run into this myself but it seems like the Kopilot thinks the throttle-range should be different (?) I have noticed that the throttle range on mine IS also different from what it should be, but not to the extend that the motor doesn't run
@theoztreecrasher26472 жыл бұрын
If you have the GPS unit plugged in, the motor will not run in "Stabilized" mode UNTIL you have GPS lock acquired - won't usually happen if inside a tin shed! Also for the motor to run in "RTH" mode you will need GPS lock, the throttle to be above 0 AND the plane to be moving forward at greater than 4m/sec relative to the ground.
@DutchRC2 жыл бұрын
@@theoztreecrasher2647 interesting! That is for sure a BUG... I can understand things not working when one switches to RTH, or auto launch when there was no GPS fix at launch.. but stabelized mode should just work...
@theoztreecrasher26472 жыл бұрын
@@DutchRC Nope, that's how it operates. Gives you plenty of warning NOT to fly BEFORE getting GPS lock when the GPS is plugged in otherwise the "Home Point" will be wherever the GPS acquires lock! If no GPS plugged in then the RTH/Fence switch position reverts to "Stabilized with Altitude Hold" and motor is available from all 3 positions from the get go. I believe that motor IS available still IF, after you have achieved it and set your home point, you subsequently LOSE GPS lock, but I am not sure if we have checked all permutations of possible conditions. Keeps life interesting! 😜😁

I was checking for an updated video on this very well done tutorial but you don't appear to have posted 1. A couple of points that need comments. Change the Kopilot pots for correct stabilization response before you do the radio output directions. Reversing the pots also reverses the stick directions. It has caught our old mate out a few times. (He forgets to do a pre-flight check occasionally.😜) A lot of folks have complained that pulling the setting board off after power down causes the settings to be lost but pulling before doesn't. Seems a bit counterintuitive. We've not checked it but I was wondering if doing the radio first might have something to do with it. Also you mistook the direction of travel of the RAD/RTH pot to change Fence Radius. Left (counterclockwise) towards 1 is towards 100m and right (clockwise) towards 2 is to max of 300m. We don't use Fence but I checked it and found that if you fly (in Manual or Stabilized) well past the fence boundary and then select Fence, it reacts just as if you had hit the fence wall. IE if below 35m above home height it flies out straight until it has climbed up to 35m then (provided it hasn't hit anything 😁) turns, climbs to 70 meters and heads for home. On autopilot until it enters the fence area again when you can retake control by moving the right stick. (A/E - mode2 Tx) We run them on Volantex G2, ZOHD Drift, ZOHD Dart250g and Sonicmodell Mini AR Wing so far. The Mini AR suits us Old Farts - rough, fast and bounces well! 😆

Yesterday I had the GPS search for the first time and it took 15 minutes to connect. This afternoon I tried again and then it took half an hour. Unfortunately, the instructions don't clearly explain how to activate each mode. To me RTH should be on a switch or button and not decided by the settings potentiometer. The fence mode only should be controlled by the pot where the distance is set by adjusting the pot or it is switched off completely. It is made more complex by the way the instructions say activate the RTH by doing an auto launch (setting throttle to 80-100% and throwing it and hoping for the best)....in theory I like the concept of this product, but the instructions really could do with being a bit clearer.

How do I connect a Remote ID Module to the ZOHD Kopilot? What model is compatible.

Though I'm not really familiar with Remote ID modules I don't think that is going to happen with this stabelizer.. It's not really an "open" flight controller such as Betaflight or Inav

@theoztreecrasher26474 жыл бұрын
@@DutchRC To use the supplied PWM cables to connect to a spectrum receiver PWM outputs you must re-arrange the connector pins in the 4-pin connector from the TAER spectrum order to AETR (and flight mode on channel 5) or you will eventually commit suicide! :D Also some ESCs don't like how long the Kopilot takes to boot up (10 secs+) and shut down! Turnigy Plush ESCs do work. Volantex ones do not! Anybody care to add others that work? 1 more... the ZOHD ESC on the Dart250g is a real pain to calibrate and there is no information from Zohd on how to do it in combination with a Kopilot system. Lastly... failure to pull the connection board BEFORE you power off the system can mean the loss of the settings you have just added!

Hello, I’ve seen your video on KZbin about the nano talon with kopilot. How do you set failsafe on the transmitter for RTH? I’ve seen the following options: Hold No pulse Custom-set I have a taranis x7 tx I’d like the plane to enter RTH is signal is lost or if I flip RTH switch on.

So I've set it to zero throttle and flight mode RTH.. But.. I've flown the receivers I use to over 4KM, so I'm not really expecting a lot of failsafe's..

@@ror-ys3qp I'd say this product does a very good job of stabilising the craft. I just flew mine (400g T-tail plane) in 12-20MPH winds, and it was very very stable. In manual mode it was a handful to fly to say the least. The autopilot features are also very useful and effective, i.e. autolaunch and RTH. Therefore I'd say it's both stabiliser and autopilot :-)

@theoztreecrasher26474 жыл бұрын
@@ror-ys3qp Where did you get that 70m figure from? The only height set figure mentioned in the manual is 35m. Could be an oversight of course and it would be nice if someone could also check the RTH loiter radius. (100m as listed or a typo and they mean diameter?) Edit. Andrew Newton did a check with a Mavic and the set RTH altitude is indeed 70m. The 35m is the height that the planes with Kopilot lite will fly out straight and level to under Autolaunch before turning back and climbing up to circle home at 70m. Same if you select RTH and you are flying below 35m above launch point height - straight ahead and climb until it hits 35m (or something else! 😜) and only then turn for home and climb up to loiter at 70m. Loiter Radius is 50m, Diameter is 100m. The circle around home can be badly buffeted by wind - don't expect DJI precision! But it works. 😉
