I found this CD at a goodwill, snagged it right up!

Can't stop thinking about this 20th century masterwork...it's a late string quartet reduced for cello with all the powers and techniques. Great performance(and sound engineering in getting the low open resonances etc.)! The interpretation- liked this clarity of articulation and stricter"ish" adherance with time. This is A-lot-of-piece!®™ and everyone brings different nuances that maybe you didn't see or hear in the score. Keep studying my friends.

What a blessing to have so many great cellists to choose from! Every interpretation reveals another potentially hidden facet in such musical gems.

Tortelier's articulation on this one in general is amazing...

This is why it's my favorite interpretation. It flows seamlessly, the cello is screaming and crying in horror from start to finish, I found that other interpretations accentuate notes in a way that breaks the piece into sentences, whereas Tortelier makes it much more fluid. My only 'complaint' is that the third movement should be played faster. Otherwise it's a pretty flawless interpretation.

Nice. Thank you.

Tortelier was, to my mind, the master of the cello's sonorous lower depths. Certainly, he was here.

D Sargent Why do you have to be so agressive, you should find better ways to express yourself, like Tortelier did with Kodaly's "song"...

I think many of the top cellists of today cannot top this. He had such an amazing energy + perfect technique.

I love him. Not as nearly good as Starker (at least in my mind), but still magnificent.
