Zombicide Green Horde - Painting Berin

Amazing work with the movitation challenge on the Trebuchet video! I think it was actually beaten in the first 30 minutes!!! And to show my appreciation I've carried on my mad sprint and got the first hero done. Set you a more challenging goal this time, but I'll keep it up and get another hero done tomorrow if we crush that one too. What do you think to Berin? I liked the work, I LOVED his axe, I'm not keen on the purple...

Thanks for the feedback! I was actually considering stopping doing them because so many are around the same time. Although I guess if you don’t watch a lot of my videos people wouldn’t know that!

Oh man me too, there were so many ways to try doing this. I went for just sticking with the Zombicide set of paints but would LOVE to see how the gemstone technical paints might look. Shame I don't have another axe to paint :-D

I think the purple might be a bit too bright. I think? It is strange that the model looks just like the art, but there is something off about it, and I do not think it is your fault. I think you painted it quite well, as usual. I just think the purple with brown, and both being bright versions of both makes it clash. Either way I am just grateful you are doing these. Thank you!

Cheers man, I was just moaning to my wife about literally what you said :-D I swear I've done it right, but it just doesn't look right :-D Its like the purple is overly saturated, its very strange! But it's nice to have some colour on the board, I actually normally quite like the brighter models - they stand out nicely surrounded by browns and blacks :-) Thanks for taking the time to feed back to me, I'm sure like most painters out there its really disappointing when something isn't perfect (i.e. always :-D) it feels especially bad when you put it on a KZbin channel to help others paint :-D

First of all great job as always. I'm not a huge fan of this model (the hair is very odd imo) but that axe is killer! I think overall I just don't like the concept art. I wish the cape was a different color from the pelt. Also, looking back, I think the hairbands are a different color from the pants and gloves. They seem much more gray compared to the pinkish of the hairbands. Perhaps that's what you feel is off?

I agree with pretty much all of that. I thought they were more grey too BUT it could easily be shadow! The "lighting" on CMONs cards are always so difficult to tell colour from light. It's also a pretty good idea to re-use some colours too, tie stuff in better and too many colours looks pretty disgusting! I'm a bit sad that I thought this would be the best hero, lets see what the others bring us!

Oh yeah good point. The "shadows" always get me with their concept art, as you just witnessed :) I have a miniature shelved because I tried to paint it like the concept art and it turned out after discussion with other painters that it's just supposed to be shadowed. Need to "fix" it at some point :(

My biggest issue with Berin is his face/beard area. His face is so heavily recessed and his beard and wolf-cloak have so much going on that it makes it difficult to get it looking right.

Welcome Andy! You're welcome :-) I don't really mention it any more, but I'm quite new to painting about 1.5 years now - only about 6 months when I started the channel, so forgive my mistakes, and I ask a fair few questions too :-D Hopefully its nice to see other newbies paint though. Enjoy!

One question, after I sprayed the primer, sometimes my models felt so sandy and had spider web on them. I checked them before I spray, so I m not sure why

No, I read it as breeches and fur trimmed gloves.

The fur is definitely on his sleeves! I thought it was the gloves but there's a big gap between the end of the gloves and the fur :-(

Great job as always. What I realized starting painting this mini, is that I hate it (just my opinion)! I think this is the worst mini I have seen for zombicide. The pose, his hair and where it lays looks like boobs. Now I am a fan of boobs!! But not on a male dwarf mini. So I will be replacing him with a different dwarf.

I always love how despite there being 1.4 million heroes for Zombcide, they always look pretty unique. So I'm impressed as far as that's concerned, as for this specific sculpt, you're not wrong, it's not my favourite either :-( I dislike the colours too, I try and stick to the artwork, so I had little choice but I don't love them!

@@WatchItPaintIt as I watch them, yes :) While I have your attention two questions. First, did the 3 part Hobby Holder KS and unsure on the round holder or the XL stability bar. Suggestions? Second, there is a KS for the Ghost Brush nylon brush set www.kickstarter.com/projects/195574209/ghost-brush-a-paintbrush-set-for-miniature-painter think they might be worth it? Currently you get an extra set for backing so 16 brushes at the $35 level. Thoughts?

@Crash Overide is the round holder the big grip mod? I have a couple of them. For me, I don’t really need them, I like the original, but the new one does add a 360 spin which can be useful, and my 3 year old uses the grips when she paints. I think for some people it will be helpful, others won’t need it. The XL handle I have too, I’m looking for a model to try painting with it - I’ve not used it yet. In theory it’ll be as good as the normal one, which I love, it fits my hands well too. As for the brushes, I’m put off by the fact they are nylon, I have some nylon brushes and they aren’t as good as my natural ones, and my sable ones seem the best. I’ve been trying to do a video on paint brushes for over a year. It’s hard to gather what to say, I’ve not used enough brands to know what’s the best etc and there are so many choices out there. I do however know which of the ones I’ve used I love, so should probably get that out there!

Hehe. You can slow it down in the youtube settings but the sound will be annoying. It was fast because it’d be 1.5 hours of video otherwise :-D newer videos are real time though, hope they are nicer for you! No Zombicide ones though until the new set arrives!

Does anyone actually watch these at normal speed? Even at half speed its still a frantic and far from relaxing watch, Normal speed is like at hyper speed, no way I could possibly learn at that speed and at half he sound like your on drugs.

The newer videos are in real time, so a lot slower, the older videos are more to be watched multiple times

Tricky one isn't it! Everyone likes different stuff :-( But yeah, I want something quick and subtle, so you know its the channel, but there's nothing to skip. Difficult to work on things like that, when I'm sure even with an intro you don't like you'd prefer I threw hours of time at actual painting videos :-D

I understand your point but in this instance you've opted for a bizarre sounding intro. Subjectiveness aside, it's memorable as so irritating that, for me at least, the forward button will have to be a standard. Also, your output is much better that some channels and you're not alone as you have guest painters so a little production time can't hurt surely.

Yeah I know nothing about intros or video editing :-) I just got free music, that kinda fitted! Haha, I might have guest painters, but I put out 8+ videos a month! And I do all their editing and voice over, so it only saves me the paint time which is about 20% of the time to produce a video :-( I needed a lot of stuff in place before I re-did the intro, like a logo! Logo is now complete, so intro will be soon(ish). Bear with me! If you're interested at all in this kinda stuff, do check out my Patreon! We've been discussing this stuff once in a while, if you don't like my new logo that's the place to go see it and let me know before I start using it - eep!
