Your logic is incorrect. They didn't turn into zombies immediately. It took times for Rebecca to regain conscious and the movie didn't specific how long so we can assume these scientists turned when time passed .

Beats a zombies head in with a fire extinguisher after fighting off the zombie virus long enough to take the cure, stabs a second zombie in the head with a pair of scissors with such force she penetrates the skull and kebabs the brain. Then Chris and team handle the others. After the mansion and Racoon City? "Okay?" has a different meaning.

Let’s be honest, it was a bit of lazy writing. In any lab where you are working with these materials your vents will bring air out and vent it up high from a chimney or other vent. Labs like this are very careful about environment, intakes, contaminants etc.

Between the original Resident Evil Game and this movie, somewhere along the way the horror atmosphere got lost. I can tell they were trying to kinda go back to the roots here, but the atmosphere just isn't there.
