I don't know if I've finally hit a certain level or if it was the explanation (probably a bit of both), but this is the first video about the circle of 5ths, where I didn't think "Too complicated, I'll come back to this later when I have more experience". It was pretty straight forward and easy to understand. Awesome stuff! 😁

I began learning guitar in 1965 at the age of five. Having a strong ear got me through everything. Watching your video about your training put it all together for me so I could understand why I’ve been so successful without knowing what I was doing. Thank you for this video. There’s a song by Dexter Britain called Summit. Check it out. It covers most of the scale and allowed me to understand when they were playing a 6 or a 4 note etc.

One that I didn't find is ear training although your site is so big it is probably there I just haven't found it yet. Anyway, check my youtube notifications this morning and here it is. Your depth of knowledge and scientific approach to teaching is exactly what I was hunting for. Thanks Again!!

Quick update.... I practice determining the key by listening to many song videos every day. Blues seems to be fairly easy. Was playing a G just now and the other half started running the sweeper. Then the G chord sounded terrible. Spent a minute trying to figure out what I was screwing up this time, then realized the G was clashing with the shrill shriek of the sweeper. Took 10-15 seconds to figure out the sweeper was in E including testing the E pentatonic scale. Thanks Brian!!

Hi Brian - absolutely love how you teach guitar - you've helped me a ton. I especially like how you use the logic of the pentatonic scales and the layout of the fretboard to figure out how to navigate to your hearts content. In this video you show an approach for how to figure out the key of a song and while it works it takes quite a long time relatively speaking. I recently figured out a way to find the key of any song in under 7 seconds (and even less sometimes) by just using some of the logic you discussed, the high E string and the "shape" of the pentatonic scale. Check it out at kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3rSYX97aZqSl6c. It takes a bit to get through it but once you get the concept it is dead easy and works EVERY time. Hope you find it useful and logically geeky.

Excellent approach to ear training. In a future video, maybe you could go through the pro/con/effectiveness/? of going to a piano and singing a pitch. Sometimes you need to tune a guitar and you don't have a tuner, like the video where Zak Wyld plays on a hello kitty guitar. 🤣

Hi, thank you for the video! I found out that most of the songs has at least 1 chord that doesn't match the key progression chords, weather if this a one is major chord instead minor or a completly different root chord. So even if I know the key I don't have the all possibilities chords in most of times. Please advise :) Thanks!

Hi Brian, I have a zombie guitar lifetime membership and looking at the 19 dollar e book. Does this download show the 1st/3rd/ 5th/ 7th notes of different scales for blues chord tone training? Thanks

Hey Blaise, I appreciate you being a member! To answer your question...no the eBook doesn't have that info in there. The diagrams in the eBook just show you the triad notes highlighted on the neck, overlaying the scales. You will find most of what you are looking for in the "In-Depth Lesson Portal > Intervals". Also, in "In-Depth Lesson Portal > Blues theory". In there you will find a ton of helpful stuff!

It's easy to train by ear with "pure diatonic" songs. How about songs which also mix non-diatonic chords, like, e.g. Hotel California? It's supposed to be Bm -- so D major scale (expecting D-Em-F#m-G-A-Bm), right, but there is suddenly F#7 instead of expected F#m and also E major (in addition to Em)? Is there some recipe to this out of scale chords?
@zombieguitar2 жыл бұрын
Every chord in Hotel California still maintains the same function, but some are major instead of minor. Therefore #1 would apply!

Hey Adam, this is actually something that I talk about in 90% of my vids. Just watch a few of my vids and you will quickly pick up on the "6 chords" that are found in a key signature. It's almost at the point where people are starting to tell me to talk about something else for a change 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Brian, I have a question. It's not the first lesson where you talk that only one of 12 pentatonic boxes locks to a specific key perfectly. But if we are talking about pentatonic, one box covers three keys for obvious reasons. How can you tell the difference which key is correct?
@zombieguitar2 жыл бұрын
That's why I mentioned taking it a step further with the "diatonic test". That will ensure that you picked the right one!
@alexcustos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the replay. Sorry, I stopped watching before you mentioned diatonic this time. But it still sounds like you don't need a diatonic test at all. What's your strategy to spot the correct key using only pentatonic boxes?

Great video! Two questions if ok (and thanks for your previous help ❣️) 1) do you know anything about the napoleon chord? And how it relates to neo classical guitar (whatever that actually is) 2) I just made a vid trying to understand the song ‘White Room’ using as much of your teachings as possible (only found you a week ago so after quickly watching so many of your vids, I may have aimed too high and gone out of my comfort zone comprehension wise!) But I explain: The intro is possibly an aeolian modal chord progression in the key of F thus making Dm its modal tonal centre (Gm, F, Dm, C; Gm, F, Dm, C…A) Then to the ‘verse’? (Or the bit where the singer first enters unless that is called something else? Eg section B?) D5, Cadd2, G, Bb, C; D, F, G, Bb, C (so that bit has modulated from F (used in the intro to D major as soon as we here that first A major key which acts as a 5 to the new 1 (D major, this the ‘verse’ is all in D) However, when it goes to the ‘Bridge’ (or what ever you’d call that other section eg section C?), wouldn’t you say that it starting in the key of F (still giving off D aeolian vibe, reminiscent somewhat of the intro’s D aeolian vibe, and even D harmonic minor when it goes to the A major of F’s parallel key which is D: C, G, Bb, A; C, G Bb, C…. D And on the last D (we don’t need a 2 5 1 or a 5 -1 transition to D since that section was already borrowing chords from the key of D, since it’s a parallel key to F?
