For anyone curious about the sudden jump cut between section 8 and 10 at 51:11 I had to cut out section 9 for copyright issues and it's partly to blame for the video being a bit later then it should've been, this also means that the timestamp for the final section is now also incorrect just use the timestamps put into the video itself to skip to the outro, sorry for this inconvenience!!

My favorite zombies are the ones that just act like normal people when they aren't on the clock to eat brains and destroy human civilization, like the zombies from Hotel Transylvania or PvZ. Something's just so funny to me seeing these goofy green guys get up to mischief and chaos, it's that sort of Skeleton effect where it almost paints them less as the living dead and more just... Regular, living people, who happen to have a body perpetually stuck in a state of decay (which also definitely adds to the sympathetic factor, cause that would very obviously SUCK in most scenarios)

headcrabs in half life 2 also are modified by the combine to never evolve past the zombie phase into the gonome and gonarch, thats why ravenholm is full of regular zombies even though enough time passed for them to evolve. the combine turned headcrabs into a fear weapon

Your mention of the zombie cat video actually kind of dredged up a memory, i think i probably saw that video as a kid too, as both someone who thought zombies were cool and cats were cute. needless to say i went in to the video expecting to have a good time and dipped pretty quickly when i realized what mixing those two elements might lead to. It didn't have as much of an effect on me as it did you, given i forgot about it for years until just now with you bringing it up but i was surprised to have remembered it. Anyways, one of my first introductions to zombies and one that gave me massive anxiety as a kid was the half hour zombie apocalypse Halloween special for Sixteen, this Canadian cartoon that aired on Cartoon network about teenagers hanging out at a mall. they did a half hour extended special in which a zombie outbreak occurs at the mall and the teens actually slowly get picked off and the zombies are depicted in a kind of realistic and scary manner from what i remember, and keep in mind, this show was fairly down-to-earth, this sort of thing would not have happened in a normal episode and in fact it seems to get revealed at the end it was all just a nightmare from one of the main characters, but for some reason, when Cartoon Network got the rights to air the show in America, they decided this special would be how they would introduce their audience to Sixteen, they marketed the hell out of it, so i ended up never watching the series out of fear even though it was only ever the one special that was so scary. in fact i have actually never watched more than a few seconds of the special itself. i was so scared by the COMMERCIALS advertising the special, that it made me scared to watch the show forever, as well as a similar show made by the same studio, Stoked. The special was so scary to me from just the advertisements for it alone that for years after, the thought of a zombie apocalypse plagued my mind, the very thought of a zombie outbreak happening and changing life as i know it on the planet Earth forever, was just so baked into my brain for a few years, i had just the WORST anxiety from it.

i really like the zombies in project zomboid, because there's so many. generally, the zombies themselves aren't the main threat. it's the number of them, and the fact that they never tire, never hunger, or never thirst. they're an unrelenting force of nature, and they will eventually kill you. maybe you'll survive 3 days, maybe 3 years. it doesn't matter to them, just one inevitable mistake will doom you.

5:37 also chronic wasting disease is very interesting to me!! while haitian folklore is the origin of the term zombie, our current portrayal of zombies is so much different, it is interesting to think of CWD as an inspiration for infection/disease based zombies. especially since there are so many different kinds of folklore mashed into our modern zombies. haitian zombies are of course created extremely intentionally, and not actually dead, but the common theme is still of the 'reanimated dead,' but the most prevalent and scary part is the enslavement. meanwhile an animal with CWD is not dead, but has that desiccated, corpselike appearance. modern zombies i feel tie both of those concepts together in a way which is pretty cool.

hi i really love zombies my brother sent me this video bc of it .. i would like to add that the tetrodotoxin theory mentioned at 5:06 the beginning has largely been debunked by scientists since they have been unable to replicate the claims of wade davis who said it was the pufferfish venom that created the zombies. nowadays i think the accepted theory is that while it definitely could have been one of the powders used on the victims, more focus should be placed on the mixture of ingredients that went into the powders depending on the individual making it, and the bokor would likely keep trying until they got it right and their victim dropped 'dead' into that comatose state. i think zombie pufferfish is just the most sensational way to phrase this story so its what most people run with haha. also something else i find super super interesting about haitian zombies that i dont think you mention (i hqvent finished the video yet lol sorry) is the separation of body and mind. some people believed the victims Must 'suddenly drop dead' because in voodoo they would believe that their soul / incorporeal spirit for lack of a better term is vulnerable during that kind of week after death, especially if it was sudden, and can be captured by the bokor and kept in a jar, and the corporeal body then enslaved as the more traditional zombie. so by creating one zombie they must create two, one of spirit and one of flesh, essentially. while both are still classified as 'zombi's, in modern terms we would find such a thing more similar to a ghost or spirit probs.
