I picked the Pixel Fold because it's much closer to the Surface Duo than the Z Fold. Also much prefer the results from the Pixel camera. I do wish it had a desktop mode and stylus support but I can live with that. For me, the bezels are a benefit because they allow me to keep that uninterrupted display without a terrible UDC and gives me something to hold onto. (It also lets me put tape over that inside camera.) Yes, Samsung has good palm rejection but it will never be as reliable as a physical bezel.

There are better folds than Samsung , should you wish to go online and Google it. The Samsung fold /pixel fold comes down to each persons preference. I don't see what the big deal is. You buy what suits your needs with a foldable phone. If you complain about the price , then it is not for you. Plenty of other options are available to suit everyones needs .

Agreed! It actually is a selling point that the phone is still useable with one hand when closed. I'm happy with my fold 5 and the size of the front screen was the main reason to buy the Samsung and not the pixel.

Personally, I also think Samsung needs to expand the external screens of the Fold 4/5 by 5-6mm. But, if you pay attention, all the youtubers who criticize the outer screen of the Fold 5, are the same ones who cheered the iPhones Mini, yet, the external screens of the Fold 4 /5 are the same width as those of the iPhones Mini 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yeah, I get it. But....99.99% of people buy a fold for the inner screen. Even the fold3 inner screen is superior to pixel fold (best buy is the fold4 tho). For a foldable phone, the UI and options are the most important aspect. Nobody comes close to Samsung. The pixel fold or xiaomi or oppo n2 fold have kinda better outer screens, but the insides and UI lack much. Actually, some prefer the narrow outer screen. I think he fold 6, which from the leaked concept looks like a s23 Ultra folded, will be their dominant device in the fold sphere

Watching this video from my freshly acquired Z Fold 5. I can assert this is a stunning device on every aspect. From finish to handling by way of responsiveness and multitasking capabilites, I find it pretty impressive. I never thought I would need a foldable Samsung phone until I held one.

I've had the Fold 3, 4, and now 5. While the improvements from 4 to 5 may not be enough for many people to upgrade, I'm certainly glad I did. The Fold 5 "hinge" is a major improvement and I'm stunned by how much better battery life I'm getting on the 5 vs the 4. I know the battery size is the same, but either the new chip is much more energy efficient or Samsung was able to work it's magic because I never was able to get a full day on the Fold 4 and was charging at least once, many times even twice. I've been able to get a full day from the Fold 5 every day since I received it on Tuesday. The Fold 5 just feels a lot lighter and better in hand then the 4. I pleasantly surprised by the Fold 5 as I was expecting a lot less. I'm glad I decided to upgrade. It's definitely worth it for me.

Zfold 5 wins. Love mine, not going back to apple unless they come up with a fully customizable UI on a foldable. The outer display is not too narrow. It's meant for swipe to text one-handed. The display is no longer than any other smartphone. Calling it "too tall" is a misrepresentation of the facts, Love the video.

The "too tall" complaints have to do with the GARBAGE aspect ratio on the outer display of the Z Fold series. Z Flip wipes the floor with the Z Fold in terms of aspect ratio and yes I'm well aware that the outer display of the Z Fold series is meant to be used ONE-HANDED only for quick tasks like sending a short text message. Most people want a TWO-HANDED phone hence why the Pixel Fold is being praised just for its outer display usage.

Z Fold 5s cover screen is bigger than iphone 12 mini, haven't heard any issues typing on the iphone. Samsungs idea that a tablet can be folded then comfortably used with one hand is a valid one. What's the point of using a foldable that is cumbersome to use on both cover and main screen? You might as well get a proper slab phone.

I already received my Z Fold 5 and I don't know what's the fuss about the front screen. This is my first foldable phone and I really like it. The longer front screen makes it easier to handle the phone in one hand and I don't also have a problem with using the keyboard. The heft is there but it doesn't matter since you'll get a phone and a tablet in one device.

I'm puzzled by the reviews of foldable phones. You purchase a foldable phone to use the larger "foldable" screen. If you plan to use the outer display most of the time, then a foldable might not be worth the money for you. I just bought my Galaxy Z Fold 5, my first device of this kind, because I wanted a bigger screen with the option to make it smaller by folding it. But you as well as the other make it sound like this is a drawback, which it is not.

For that price I expect both displays to be A+. Then you can personally decide which display to use. I am in a car 8 hours a day sometimes so a user-friendly front display is vital. The Fold 4 outer display is just a nightmare and unacceptable. A Twitter poll had 85% wanting the Fold 6 to have a wider display. Every other foldable has a wider display. I have no idea why Samsung continue against the clear consumer demand, in fact, against the common sense argument.

My subjective preference is just that the Pixel Fold is simply the more enjoyable phone to use. I have had two previous Samsung Z Fold phones and I'm just all around having a nicer time with the Pixel Fold. Your biggest issues honestly don't bother me at all, such as the screen not unfolding 100 percent. It's simply a non issue for me. Having such a usable front screen and still being able to open and enjoy viewing media and documents in a large view is all I need in the world. Couldn't be happier, to be honest.

From what I've gathered from watching a lot of reviews, the Z Fold and the Pixel expect to be used diffrently. With the Z Fold, the outer screen is more to check notifications or write a quick text but when you want to do phone stuff, you'll open it up. Whereas the Pixel is a normal smartphone, that you open up instead of flipping it to landscape. I'll be getting the Pixel though, not only because I've had Pixels as long as they've existed and alway been very happy but mainly because of 3rd party apps. I'm much more indifferent about bezels than most users as it seems, but having a second app store or two photos apps would completely drive me insane.

The two photos app, I only use Google Photos on my Samsung and the ONLY time it is annoying is when you access your camera roll from within the camera app. But I almost never do that anyways so I don't see the issue

With Owning the Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3, & Z Fold 4 & now Google Pixel Fold. The Z Fold is always opened and used since the front screen is useless. The Google Pixel you open the phone when you feel like it which is less wear and tear on the crease since the Front screen is the best out of any Foldable. There is no Issues on the Pixel Fold. I can vouch for it's durability being solid as a Owner. Pixel Fold has better cameras by far, you can take great photos and then enhance it to better photos in the camera app. Samsung has the better Gallery app since it's more About allowing you to make as many albums as you want whereas Google slaps your photos in their and are more Unorganized. You immediately know the photos are way better on Google. Real Life is better than watching KZbin videos.

The best outer display is subjective and is definitely not the most important thing on a foldable. I mean you're buying a foldable...I would hate if the galaxy fold became a passport shape like the pixel. Quite wrong, you are buying a foldable, not a tablet. So when you spend $1800 the most important thing is having two great displays so we as individuals can choose what display to use. It is nonsense to say this is meant to be a tablet 99% of the time as in many cases it is inconvenient or just a waste of effort to constantly open. Having two great displays is not mutually exclusive, and to have two great displays is a great design, having just one is a terrible design.

Depends on what you're looking for in a fold. The UI,the photos , the cover display , the animations, better recent apps section , the dual quicktoggle/notifications when unfolded, wider view un in split screen ,the back gesture actually applying to the app you're using in split screen meanwhile the z fold will also go back on the 2nd app or close split screen are the reasons I prefer the pixel fold over my z fold . But yes the inner display is superior on the z fold , you have samsung dex , hdmi video out, inner and outer screen can be separate, more options for multitasking and the dock but when it comes to the z fold the only thing i really care for is dex, HDMI out , resizing apps, and more powerful in case i want to run switch emulation with no problem other then that i prefer everything else on the pixel fold .

Good review but I think the narrow outer screen is way more beneficial as far as egronomics go. Its so easy to hold and clutch the Z fold and gives me confidence that it wont slip out. Plus we buy foldables to use and enjoy the inner screen. I dont like to use the outer screen in a foldable or i can buy the S23 Ultra. I only use outer screen when i am in a hurry. Using outer screen in a foldable kills the reason to even have one. Regards

@@TheOldSchoolCrisis in my opinion, having been using the Z fold for a long while now, comparing it to my revent past phones (FE21, S20 Ultra) when my zfold is closed, it is very close too the size of my FE21 in width, making it actually really nice for single hand use like replying to texts and browsing through stuff quickly. While un-folded it gives a massive screen that can be turned vertically to give almost a "computer monitor" feel, and ends up giving work apps like Google Docs and Adobe apps a AWESOME display/layout that I feel just isnt there with the pixel fold lol when I use my zfold it feels like it's the best of both "devices"

Ok, let me clarify a few things here. Google uses stock Android so it's a better overall experience. Even Google Pixel has Stylus pen support and you can also type in handwriting mode. Battery is a big factor when it comes to usage and Pixel Fold does really well with moderate use versus Samsung Fold. One thing that I agree with include that the inner display is slightly superior in terms of both quality and effectiveness in Samsung Fold phones while in pixel, there are chances that dust particles might get into the inner display resulting in dead pixel/screen if you don't use a case which covers the hinge. As for people saying that using Pixel Fold more for the external screen is not justified if one is having a folding phone, I have to disagree with that because the larger screen is used for watching videos or productivity apps whereas the outer screen is more than good enough for typing or taking a call. In essence you are getting a candy bar phone with fold features in case of the Pixel Fold. Sometimes you are on the go and want to respond to messages quicker rather than unfolding and typing which Samsung pushes you to do. PS:I have both Z Fold 4 and Pixel Fold and I find myself using Pixel Fold more.

Im just hoping that google doesnt cancel their fold and gets at least to gen2 but really 3. When the zfold 1 came out it was practically a joke. Zfold 2 was better with 3 being a stable and well rounded version. So the pixel fold is just in its infancy and imo on par with where the zfold 2 was. So just a bit more changes can get it to a real premium foldable. If google can get developers on board, add pen support and thin the bezels, i think itd be a real competitor. I do think its a bit unrealistic to be charging 1800 for a gen 1 product while your competitor is at a gen 5 and highly refined version but at the same price. So hopefully they can price reduce by say $100-200 if they cant create an ultra premium experience that directly compares to samsung.

I owned a Z Fold 2 and a Z Fold 4 for one year each. After just over a year, the ZF2's inner screen died, and the ZF4's WiFi and OTA hardware died (making it totally useless as a communications or network connectivity device). I'd be a fool to buy another Samsung foldable. I have a Google Pixel Fold, now. So far, I'm loving it, and the only thing I really miss is the dual customizability of the inner and outer home screens. The superiority of the GPF's outer screen is actually a BIG plus in its favor, as I've found that it greatly improves the whole smartphone experience. After two years on Samsung's candy bar form factor, the outer screen of the Google foldable is a constant joy.

I have both. Tried Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2 and 3. I am a super power user. All are better than the pixel hardware and surprisingly software wise also.

I used the Pixel fold for a week, and the Z fold 5. I keeped the Z fold 5. I found the narrower taller screen worked great for quick everyday use and when I had time I opened it up and used the larger screen. all the way around I felt it was a better quality product then the Pixel fold.

@ZONEofTECH Using the cover screen on the Galaxy Z Fold4 ain't even that bad, honestly. Yes, watching video on the main screen would be a lot better, but using the cover screen for everyday stuff ain't even that bad. Typing is difficult, though.

I always use the front screen on z fold. I've never heard anyone state that.. you can use the front screen in landscape mode if need be.....

The fold 5 isnt really tall at all, its the thin like appearance that makes it look tall and also compared to the pixel fold is just crazy ,you can tell at 6:18 because it isnt close to the pixel and s23, just a recorrection 👍

Both foldables should bring a feature called alarm stand where you have it half open the top half being alarm/on always on display similar to the iOS 17 stand mode if they don’t already have it.

You can do gestures to take photos in Pixel Fold you just have to set it up in settings. You will be waving your hand and then it takes a photo.

I know you'll probably make fun of me for this but the other day I was in a tmobile store. The employee had the zfold 5 and a customer had the pixel fold. They were bantering about which was better. I walked over and opened my surface duo and they both went "whoa!". I still love my Duo!

Z fold 3 user front screen typing and quality was terrible for the pricepoint, im currenty using a pixel fold and can type with one hand without issue. Those saying you cant use one hand have must have small hands and finger. I hated my z fold 3 it made me switch back to a candy bar phone, pixel reinvigorated my use of foldables and One UI sucks its been very buggy, sluggish and slow...the end!

Had the zfold 3 and updated to the pixel fold mainly because i much prefer the form factor of the pixel. Have to say i agree with your review, my 2 gripes are the hinge on pixel like you say it makes me nervous forcing it open to 180% and i wish we had the ability to force apps fullscreen on the inner screen. Other than that pixel fold wins easily. As for customisation the pixel is extremely easy to root and that gives you a world of customisation

Pixel phones are notorious for particular problem, my old pixel did this as well, at one point the whole screen was gone (the phone was still usable but im blind) and only came back on after i made a prayer to the tech gods for it to do so

This is an issue with many recent OLED displays and OnePlus has even had to offer a free new display if you are unlucky to get this. No one knows why this is happening. Maybe Samsung, BOE, or LG have changed their OLED design and this is causing thousands of these instances? Your warranty will take care of this.

Until they figure out the software, there is little to no competition. Ive used an Honor phone before that should have been the equivalent of a huawei flagship but with google services. The software is trash, even compared to the huawei version. The huawei version is better overall, the honor software is so bad, ot freezes a lot.

Xiaomi probably won't release a global version but they allow you to flash a global rom. I've owned the xiaomi mi 11 ultra and I loved it. Depending on the price and full specs of the mix fold 3, it might be my next device. That or the global version of the Honor magic v2.

It's weird and at the same time funny, but the Pixel Fold is 8-10mm too wide, while the Fold 5 is 5-6mm too narrow 🤦🏽‍♂️ On the other hand, there is zero chance that I pay $1800 for this Pixel Fold against the Galaxy Fold 4/5, zero ❌ The software on an Android smartphone, we can change it, it can evolve, but the hardware not, and the hardware of this Pixel Fold is not even worth half of its official selling price. Personally, I also really think Samsung needs to expand the external screens of the Fold 4/5 by 5-6mm. But, if you pay attention, all the youtubers who criticize the outer screen of the Fold 5, are the same ones who cheered the iPhones Mini, yet, the external screens of the Fold 4 /5 are the same width as those of the iPhones Mini 🤷🏽‍♂️

I have seen multiple Fold 5 reviews where battery life is between 3-4 hours SOT. It does appear that the Fold and Flip 5 have very weak battery lives, especially the Fold which is meant for power users. I get 8-9 hours SOT with my use on the Pixel Fold with no overheating.

@@doratien385 I think that's the way they use them, that is for camera and using high brightness meant that the extra nits on the Fold 5 translates to much worse battery life. Brightness is algorithmic so the higher you go the more juice you use per minute. Indoors on Wi-Fi using casual apps. I get about 5 to 6 hours SOT on Fold4. Tests suggest the Fold5 only gets 30 minutes longer.

My fold 5 lasts pretty much the whole day for me. Its been 6 hours so far with screen on and it got down to 48% streaming videos shows movies etc. Battery life feels good for me.

Good comparo and echoes my experience. The Z Fold is so much better in every way, minus the outer display. Which is a deal breaker. In my daily use, the Z Fold (4) needed to be opened too much because of the outer display frustration. Which is why I went back to a slab, S23U. The Pixel Fold was too much a step down in build quality and bare software (admittedly highly subjective, but I prefer the Samsung UI to vanilla Android).
