Great review/comparison as always! Can you please Add the newest oneplus open (crimson) “pt 2” of this comparison please?! Would love to see an in depth comparison of all 3 in terms of Hinge Quality, performance, battery life, camera, and multi-tasking. Am a power-user and I’ve been wanting to buy a foldable for some time now because of the multi-tasking features but I’m super skeptical of the previously mentioned categories because it just feels wiser to use something like the s24 Ultra without having to compromise on build quality (hinges), camera reliability, software bs, battery life or performance… Would be great to multitask more but that means nothing if am paying more $ for a compromise in any one of those areas.

Cheers for the review! I'm gutted about the change in aspect ratio to be honest. I loved the form factor of the first Pixel Fold. That along with the fact that Google clearly hasn't finished optimising their full screen apps for the new aspect ratio is why I'm probably going to hang onto my OG Pixel Fold. I'm definitely curious about what Google will bring out next year though.

I wish it had the same "modes and routines" as the ZFold. It's very handy feature to automate a lot of settings. Also, miss the built-in dynamic wallpapers on ZFold. I really like the feel and size of the Pixel fold over the Z Fold or the S24 Ultra.

I can't believe more people don't talk about this. The fold 6 is the most symmetrical fold out there and it looks soooooo much cleaner because of it. The pixel fold 2 is incredibly ugly to me. The super thick bezels and the completely asymmetrical front drive me crazy

I hated that the Fold 6 front screen was smaller than average until I picked up the Pixel Fold. Being able to use the Fold 6 one handed is great. I don't know if this was Samsung's original idea for the ratio, but it honestly works out. The new square sides of the front screen make it the first Galaxy Fold phone where I feel I can use the front screen comfortably without compromise. I'm not sure now that I'd want it much bigger. Just a bit thinner.

I was all in for the new fold but after seeing your review I'm worried about the touch sensitivity. I returned the OnePlus Open last year for that exact reason, some parts of the inner screen didn't register while scrolling. If Google borrow their tech that will be disappointing, I might go with the P9P XL. I will still try out the Fold hopefully its not widespread.

The wireless charging is the largest concern I heard as I use those exclusively to charge. I'm not sure how they got out the door with that issue, but it could be software as well as hardware placement.

The Fold 9 will charge with the Pixel Stand (lst and 2nd gen). All you need to do is to raise the phone by the thickness of a standard pencil. I used two standard size emery boards (fingernail files), cut them in half and trimmed them to the width of the stand, stuck them together and they worked perfectly. The Stand is slippery and the emery boards make the phone secure and should cause no marks on the phone/case unless sawed back and forth (why?) There's no problem charging in landscape mode, just slide along until it charges - no props needed. A bit Heath Robinson but it works.

Honestly, both phones are pretty cool, but the Pixel's battery life being a champ makes it more tempting! And that camera magic is hard to resist. Just wish it didn't heat up so fast during games. 😅📱

6:15 that hole punch is so ugly and dated. The Z Fold's UDC makes it so much more immersive. The quality of the UDC is absolutely fine for video calls, which is the only time you're going to use it. 8:30 Samsung's apps are often better than Google's. "Stock Android" just means "dumbed down and stripped out" at this point, or "round and colourful." 10:20 the Pixel taskbar doesn't show your four most recent apps in addition to the pinned apps like the Z Fold, does it? Also, the Z Fold's ability to use floating windows on top of split screen makes a huge difference.

I’m hoping for the Tensor G5 we see Google add hardware based racing to the chipset as well as dedicated cores and ram for AI &/OR machine learning specifically for their own AI upsclaing technology for video games. IPX8 simply means ingress of solids isn't tested. That actually instills more confidence in me than an IP48 rating, because IP4X is really quite a poor (if dubious) rating for solids ingress. Usually, an IPX8 rating means that X is inherently worth at least a 5 or 6.

I received mine on the 4th and after 3 days I realised that the battery can at some points drain dramatically (5% in 20 minutes in idle state!). It can also lose around 20% at night over roughly 7 hours!! Any advice here! Should I return it and cancel the purchase?

I have no issues with Samsung fold battery with intensive use. You might want to optimise the background activity of the phone. Google has zero dust resistance which is a huge downside in a long term use.

I had Samsung Fold 3 and then 5, bumped into Samsung's service with both of them because of the screen issue, both of them the same issue. With the first one I had to wait for a few months with the second one it was much quicker, but each time I had to fight with service to proof that this case covered by warranty. I guess this is enough of giving credits, ordered Google's phone this time. Also I really like that it is wider, since I watch videos a lot without opening it. Black Friday with a chanky discount and trading in my older phone makes it really cheaper

pixel 7 pro has only 30x zoom, my fold 4 100x. But pixel's zoom is much better. Samsung is lying I think

There's (a quite) simple explanation for that. The magnification (5x in Pixel & 3x in Samsung) is the initial zoom point of those telephoto cameras, beyond that is the work of sensor cropping & post-processing. Google just simply didn't want to crop the sensor as aggressive as Samsung. Samsung's approach is basically pushing the zoom (sensor cropping) level to the very limit & then hope for the best on the post-processing. Been personally using S23 Ultra for a while now & to be honest, beyond 10x zoom is only practical for reading aid for me (when I need to read something relatively far away from me). Aesthetic wise (aside for the 'moon shoot'), it's a no-no. Talking about sensor cropping for zoom, it's actually an old practice as it already exists even before multisensor setup become a thing.
