Finally got to watch it haha and your worries about mistakes were totally unnecessary, there was only one: the river boat ride is in fact on a track, its just very well hidden :D Since you otherwhise made no mistakes, here a few more "fun" facts: - the patas monkeys you saw in front of the cheetah/rhino exhibit originally were planned to be also mixed with the rhinos and cheetahs. Sadly on the first day when they tested mixing them, the cheetahs started chasing the male patas and so they had to seperate them for good - the aquarium was recently (2-3 years ago) totally redesigned to fit modern holding requirements, thats also when they added the koi pond in front of it. They also made the outside resemble the original building as close as possible. The same will happen for the reptile building - the sea lions will move from their current exhibit to the new tierra del fuego exhibit once its finished. At the moment they only have females, but they plan to breed them again in the future. - all the plants in gondwana land are from the actual rainforests and countries their species originate from. Whole trees were transported to Gondwanaland during construction, thats why some of them are so gigantic already. Also the sloths have the total freedom to go wherever they want inside the hall, which includes the ceiling (so always look up) - the entire middle part of the zoo will be changed to feature multiple islands on a lake, that represent the islands of south east asia once tierra del fuego is finished, with multiple new species like babirusa

Always nice to see Zoo Leipzig featured in zoo tours on KZbin. Leipzig will always have a special place in my heart❤ I've lived in this city for several years to study and as a side job I worked in the zoo as a tour guide. Best side job ever haha. I especially enjoyed having a special Gondwanaland tour. In my opinion you left out a little too much of the zoo, like the complete tiger habitat, the snow leopard habitat or the beautiful maned wolf and anteater habitat but overall a very good summary. Also, I have to add something about Gondwanaland because unfortunately people don't get the concept too much: it's named after the former super continent Gondwana which consisted of today's Indian subcontinent, Africa, South America, Australia and Antarctica, hence the different continental sections within the hall and why they didn't limit the animals to one continent. So, evolution and showing how our today's continent evolved out of Gondwana is the whole point of the hall.

I didn't know that Leipzig was so good, damn. Thank you for showing it to us. I do like the aerial shots, in fact, as a zoo nerd, I would love it if zoo maps appeared more in these type of videos. I think some zoo maps are so well-made and detailed, letting us wonder what cool habitats are in the zoo. Like someone said here in the comments, I would not also mind at all if the videos were a bit longer, but I also understand that it is more work and some people might not stay until the end. It was unfortunate that you couldn't go to the Dvůr Králové in Czech Republic, it seems amazing.

I love a good zoo map! The issue with you using them in videos is you need one at a very high resolution to be able to pan around it and have it look good and I've not yet found any. I will try and obtain them from future zoos though I think

I just discovered this channel and I have to say I absolutely love it. Going to a zoo was my younger self's idea of a perfect trip, and as evidenced by my last year's trip to Prague Zoo, the joy is still there. There's also something about the way you narrate these videos that makes them insanely calming.

I was in Germany last week, but didn’t have the chance to visit Leipzig. I did go to three zoos; Berlin, Tierpark Berlin, and Hellabrunn in Munich. All three are great.

@@ZSHzootours Hellabrunn pleasantly surprised me. They have bred cattle that resemble the extinct Auroch. Zoo Berlin was my favorite, but Tierpark has very few small exhibits.

It's definitely the most 'American' zoo in Germany, and that's not a bad thing at all. I wish I'd spent more than one day there during my tour over this summer. Best in Germany? I think the Berlin collections are still superior but Leipzig is truly fantastic. The presentation, theming and collection is brilliant, and definitely my favourite 'modern' zoo I've visited. Also - I remember reading your comment on Zoochat about the bonobos being a no-show, and I have to thank you because if it wasn't for that I would have probably just assumed they were offshow instead of just being hidden in the massive exhibit.

I do not agree with the "American" part - whatever that might mean actually. Animal Collection-wise Berlin Zoos might be superior, but Leipzig zoo is better Exibith-wise, and in the end of the day that is what truly matters. Pongoland puts any primate enclosure in Berlin in the shame corner. Only Tierpark is getting considerable renovations to be at par with Leipzig!

​@@okapijohn4351 American in the sense of copious theming and a large use of fake rocks. This is of course in comparison to contemporary European zoos - the Berlins, the ZSL parks and Prague are good examples. I don't think that putting Leipzig above the Berlins is a take shared by many Pongoland is starting to show its age compared to other primate exhibits in Europe - the indoor areas especially are very lacking. But comparing it to Berlin is a little disingenuous, given how old Berlin's is and the plan to replace it. Zoo Berlin has a far more extensive collection as you say, as does Tierpark - the main draws of Leipzig in this department are the pangolins and black rhinoceros, but the former is somewhat let down by an exhibit that could be an awful lot better. I don't think there's a single species shared by Leipzig and Tierpark Berlin that has a better exhibit in Leipzig - once their new house opens, the elephants in Berlin will have a much better exhibit (ignoring the terrible zoo one). Leipzig provides a better experience for the visitor, perhaps, but I don't think the same can be said for the animals themselves. I don't wish to sound like I think Leipzig is at all bad. But I just find Berlin (especially the Tierpark) to be the definition of what a zoo should be.

I have a american partner and i am from leipzig i showed him this zoo he said its nothing alike and especialy walk through exhibits and free rosming snimals barely exist anymore in the usa becouse there are to msny i quote " karens" who dont hVe any respect and let their children bother the animals I also read somewhere thst leipzig zoo wS an exsmple for msny other zoos world wide so if there is similaritys in Habitat and and all then probaply due to this Not shure where i read or heard thst though was at least 10 years ago

Great video! Sea otters are my favourite species of otters. I saw a rescued pair and was astounded by how large they are in real life. It also justified the trip to Sea Life in Birmingham 😅

I live in Leipzig and have been to the zoo twice. Its nice, especially being in the city so its very accessible. The zoo in my honetown (Toronto) is way out in the outskirts and even vy car its a trek to get to.... I want to visit the zoo in Halle, since you can bring your dog. I think thats a great idea!

While I prefer the Berlin Zoo-Aquarium in terms of collection, in terms of exhibitry and ambiance this was my favourite zoo in my German Zoo Tour last July, and thus quite possibly my favourite zoo I've ever been to. Also, my favourite species of otter is the giant river otter; they were unfortunately a no-show for me here, but I did manage to see them in Hamburg and Duisburg.

If you like a good aquarium in a zoo, please visit Burgers Zoo in Arnhem! They do a proper aquarium. Also their indoor domed off areas are amazing as well.

In my home country South Korea, we also had a mixed enclosure of cheetahs and white rhinos in Everland Safari in the past. Now they only have rhinos so I miss those days..the enclosure was called the hill of peace where carnivores and herbivores can stay in peace treaty

​@SamsExotics In the next few years Dallas Zoo in Texas will be doing it. They're expanding their African exhibit and when it's finished the Southern White Rhinoceros will be mixed with cheetahs. They seem to be taking it a step further though than Leipzig since they admitted this is where they inspiration came from. But they'll have a separate habitat to where the cheetahs can escape to and also an extremely long running space for the cheetahs to access as well.

Loved the tour! Do you think you could tour Paignton Zoo Environmental Park in Devon? its such an underrated zoo, rivalling the likes of Chester Zoo, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, and London Zoo! I wish I could go, absolutely beautiful zoo, I recommend if you the money, Taronga Zoo Sydney. Been quite a few times, it’s always been wonderful. When building habitats for animals in Planet Zoo I use it is reference. Or Australia Zoo where the legendary Steve Irwin used to work, may he rest in peace.

That's a matter of opinion, so in reality, one can say something is the best zoo and not be wrong. Oh, but this is actually one of the best zoos in the world (in my opinion). I couldn't imagine making such an absolute statement, especially when I personally just covered tours of a park responsible for saving several species. Please tell me what feat you've accomplished that's on par with such amazing conservation efforts that would make you say such a negative thing.
