WOW, it's amazing to see how her family played a key role in the abolitionist movement in the 1850s! I want to trace my ancestry like this and see what I find.

Omg this made me cry so much. To think that these black families fought to stay together with their children, wife, husband. They fought for basic human right, freedom. So sad that at one point on history owning another human being was completely LEGAL is embarrassing and sad.
@johnemerson13634 жыл бұрын
The worst part is that humans have enslaved each other ever since two tribes fought each other and the winner enslaved the loser. We have gotten past that I hope, but there are still places in the 21st century where slavery is real.

That's the story I was looking for. I told it to my civics class years ago and want to hand the story off to another teacher who is teaching civics. My favorite of these stories. My ancestors were also Quaker abolitionists in the same general area. It's great to have the kids see someone tell a story like this that they recognize and like. My students loved it.

***** Not all slaves were of African descent in early US history to begin with. Many Europeans came across as slaves and/or indentured servants themselves. Yes, the indentured servants worked off their passage. Captured American Indians were kept as slaves as well. The Puritan culture of early US resulted in many slaves -regardless off their origin- freed well before the American Civil War (between North and South). Not sure of the specifics on the Deschanel relationship (slaver or not).

@phaedrahalcyon16228 жыл бұрын
No, she read it correctly. The picture says it was demolished in 1898, that would be called "late 19th century". The 1800's are referred to as the 19th century, the 1900's as the 20th century, us in the 2000's live in the 21st century and so on.

Being older than Political-correctness, I've gotten sick and tired of all this pro-women & pro-Black bull that I've had shoved down my throat for that past 5 decades -- in the name of "civil" and "equal" rights, of course, you see.

Being older than "political-correctness" myself, I've never understood why being politically correct is so hard. Treat people with respect. Don't hurt or offend people. I find it a good way to live. Not a struggle at all. In fact, it seems much harder to hold those hard feelings toward others. I hope you heal.
@capie444 жыл бұрын
@@pc4764 : Kudos to you! (You're the first to admit that we are older than P C. Thank you.) The politically-correct are out to gather (the gullible) forces for "you're a victim of [insert here] for votes!" If there is not some reason spoken -- even in some corner of obscurity -- then, like 1933, the politcally motivated behind political correctness (the politicians, not the sheeple), we'll be repeating history. Plus, I don't go to bars. I don't drink. So I need a place to vent off bullshit like this video. Agh. :) Thanks for responding :)
