Mediocre is synonymous with words like ordinary, common… in stock form the TSX isn’t spectacular. For the price? YOU BET! I do say that in the video as well. No regrets but we have to acknowledge cars have come a long way in displacement, efficiency, performance since 2003 when this generation of TSX was released. Thank you for your comment!

The options and features, meh, I never use seat hetaing, it doesn't habe wheel heaying so.....besides AC......i got an aftermarket navigation that isn't from 1999 and unusable. Aftermarket speakers as the old ones were kinda blown. Never use the roof window, What options? If it had ventilated seats, then Id love it more as the leather seats keep backs so hot :( especiaply in summer. Not too fuel eficient here in EU. Nice sounding engine, reliability is OK. But other than these few things, it's not spectacular in terms of "options". But it's solid for.the price

@@JuanCarlosLTO I didn't change my starter until it died at 250k miles, alternator went out at 280k miles. AC Compressor at 225k miles, cv axles never went bad, I just changed them when I replaced my clutch. My tsx is still stock and still runs strong, I use royal purple with k&n oil filter, it helps keep the motor quiet and running smooth. Do the same, you will notice a difference. 243k miles on a tsx is still fine as long the motor has been taken care of. I drove mine from Florida to Wisconsin and back last year, still ran perfect.

I paid $10K for a 2007 TSX with 46K miles in 2014. It has 110K now, replaced the battery once, alternator $179 at AutoZone, rear rotors and pads and oil changes. In March, replaced the four tire tires for $426, the TPMS sensors were $80 extra. Two years ago the catalytic converter was stolen, insurance covered the $2500 damage. Did all the repairs myself except the catalytic converter and flex pipe.

@@JuanCarlosLTO The batteries in the sensors died, the OEM ones last about seven years. You can take apart the sensors and replace the batteries. The ones I bought come preprogrammed, the shop where I had them installed was ticked off that they couldn't charge me $50 extra for programming.

I bought my 2004 back in 2019 to replace my 03 Accord. I picked it up for $4k w/ 167,241 miles. It is only last year that I had to replace the clutch and now a full exhaust. But prior to that I've been driving worry free for the last 5 years of ownership.

I agree. The design of first gen TSX is so understated. Timeless design… that rear end is gorgeous to this day. I just saw one in LA yesterday, slightly dropped with a bit wider wheels… just loved it. I don’t think the second generation was as good but then again, that’s just my opinion.

Thank you for sharing this video. I actually looked at a 2007 Acura TSX today with 118,000 miles priced at $6,900. It drove well. I'm going to have my mechanic check it out on Friday. If he approves then I will purchase. I really want this car to work out for me for as long as possible. I was so happy to see your videos on this car. Any thoughts/advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. The funny thing is that after I test drove the Acura TSX today I went to Walgreens and parked right next to one. Then when I was leaving Walgreens I saw another Acura TSX leaving the parking lot. I think these are goos signs 🙂.

I would say that if it’s in good shape then it is a fair price. Price varies depending on condition. I’ve seen them go for over $10k, again, at $6900, it can be a fair price if it’s in good overall shape. If it’s from a dealer they probably got it for $1-2k at auction or trade in as that’s what blue book says. Carmax appraised mine for $1200 so dealers have that huge gap to maneuver. As far as anything else, as you can see these engines are pretty much bullet proof, then by 2007 most issues has been fixed so you’re getting the better year model. Relatively fuel efficient but not what you could get from a civic from that era which go for about that in good shape as well. So it depends what you’re looking for. I like the extra space and power that you get from a TSX vs a Civic and I prefer this over the Accord from those years. Good luck with your purchase.

I bought a newer one 2012 Acura TSX back in November for my new job since I didn't want to overuse my now paid off 2018 Honda CRV. I got one with the title on t saying "formally damaged" although I must say I still do not see what it was they claim. Vehicle drives great and in very good condition. It has this sports feel and I really enjoy driving it. I got it with about 190k miles on it and I am definitely keeping it. I hope you experience same luck as I have had. Acura is a great car

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm the original owner of an 09 TSX with 246K miles. Best car I've ever owned. Aside from routine maintenance, the only items that failed were the alternator at 235k, new struts at 210k, an $11 AC relay switch, and $10 brake pedal pad. Oh yea, new struts made a HUGE difference in the handling. My operational costs are 16 cents/mile over the life thus far.

What a great experience! I just sold mine today with 245,560 miles! I loved every minute of it but I was ready for a change. I don’t keep cars long and with this TSX it opened the door for new experiences in cars that I always wanted to have earlier in my life. There’s a list of cars that are relatively affordable and I want to try a few before I’m too old to enjoy anything.

It's really strange to me how many american youtubers feel like the TSX feels kind of sluggish and that 200hp isn't even considerate moderate power. In Europe 200Hp is a lot, and the average HP on a car is prob around 130-140hp and the median would be around 110hp. What would be the average power of a car in the states?

@kapparaaliach you’re absolutely right. Everything is relative. As I’ve said before on videos from this same car, I had one back in ‘03 and at 205 hp it had more than the bmw 325i of the same year and it was considered very good for a 4 cylinder engine. 20 years later hp in USA production cars has increased tremendously due to turbo implementations and of course EVs. I guess in the USA we’re used to more. Whenever I visit Europe I see S classes with 4 cylinder turbo engines and I’m fascinated by them, small, efficient, often diesel engines in larger cars that are not trim levels that are offered here. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I own a 2005 TSX. I bought it in 2012 with a 64,705 miles. 12 years later, I still have the vehicle and now has a little over 215k. Over the years, sure I’ve had to replaced certain things that naturally you just have to replace however in terms of major parts, none at all. This car has been nothing short of reliable an around. I still have mine looking great and several years ago I even added the all around OEM body kit from Acura (comes painted) so it looks that much better for the year 2024. The fact that I have a little over 215k miles and it literally rides like a new car is simply amazing and speaks volume for the brand imo.

I also own a 2023 TLX Type S and it’s my weekend toy. But knowing that there is long term reliability in these cars, that within itself bring me a peace of mind and I love that. I’ve had several Acuras and continue do buy them and no regrets. Point of all this for me, I still love my 2005 TSX and still happy til this day

@@francysantos1916 the TLX Type S is a gem! As far as the TSX, I like that OEM body kit but I think it’s NLA. I will be dumping more money into mine because it has proven itself to me. Nearly 245k now and the engine/transmission is still so healthy, no leaks! Unbelievable. I want to find the right suspension to lower it a bit; around an inch or so. Thank you for watching my video

Simply some lowering springs because the shocks are good however, adding lowering springs to shocks that are almost 20 years old wouldn’t be the best idea so I might just change everything. my daily driver is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and it’s been flawless so far at 63K mikes. I bought it new. It has all the modern amenities including a back up camera and it’s a manual so it’s fun to drive. I just got all four new shocks and tires. she runs like brand new again. I went with KYB shocks bc Advance Auto has a sale and KYB has $50 rebate.

Awesome, when I started reading all I could think of was if yours was a CVT which in those years were pretty awful, unsure if the 2013 auto was already a CVT, but I drove them a lot and the power delivery was very bad. Glad you have a manual.

I tried to get myself into the perfect tsx because I like the size of the car and the k24 is a great engine. But after weeks of looking the last one I went to go see had 95k miles and drove absolutely flawlessly. Ran the Carfax and that car had a cluster swap and it actually had 288k miles on it. Dealer said it probably had a complete drivetrain and cluster swap at sometime but couldn't confirm that. I don't blame the dealer we talked it out and at the end of the day they just buy from the auction and sell whatever they get so it's anyone's guess. I was good on the tsx at that point. I found a 1 owner garaged wdp black interior navi 07 TL with 115k that I paid the dealer 7k out the door and it's needed absolutely nothing. Did the timing, ball joints and trans service myself and I'm into it for under 8k and it's got 150k miles on it now. My budget was 4-5k for a tsx but glad I just spent more cash and got the TL. More room, more power and smoother ride. I'll continue the maintenance and drive it until I can't anymore but that bad tsx I went to go see was a blessing in disguise because I can't picture myself being as happy with the tsx as I am the TL. Acura is definitely the way to go for value, reliability and comfortable daily driver.

That’s my favorite TL of all. My coworker bought one right after I bought my TSX back in 2004; white with black interior… what a 1 upper 🤣. I think you did good and ended up with a car that is more rare than the TSX, especially in good shape. Most of what I see on the road now from those years TSX or TL has been trashed and or modified.

My car looks exactly like yours. Only it's a 2005 Honda Accord Euro/Japan model with the 2.0L, full spec. I bought it 7 years ago, as a temporary car, but I liked it so much, that I kept it as my daily. It is a reliable car still, with only very minimal maintenance (partly DIY). Ofcourse there will be some issues with such an old car. Replaced some wheel bearings, control arms, tie rods, etc. But aftermarket parts are cheap and widely available. I have been looking to buy a newer car recently, but I just can't get myself to spend silly money on a car that isn't even as good as the old Honda. I will just drive it untill something big breaks.

Mine is nearing 250k miles and is still super healthy. It just doesn’t make sense to sell it. I might even paint it next month and make it look even better than it already does. It’s super clean but the paint is a let down. I’m not a fan of aftermarket paint as it rarely matches OEM quality but this finish is toast.

Not weird at all in my opinion. I did the exact same thing here! I bought and sold (made money on it) a Model 3 LR into a couple other fun cars but ultimately they weren't the one car solution I wanted. I decided to buy a 2012 TSX with 180K miles on it for 6k. My plan was to drive this for a bit and see what I would like purchase next, but the maintenance record on it is perfect and I actually can't really see myself selling this car. Now at 190K and going, my TSX is such an easy car to own that it is a no brainer to keep until it dies for me now. My plan is to keep this as a daily and purchase a manual Cayman or M2 in the near future as a my weekend car. No need for one car solution anymore!

Funny how you mention cars within my orbit… the Cayman: I was looking at a 2009ish before the pandemic… in nice shape you could get one in the mid 20’s for an S with a manual. The M2, in my opinion, comes closer to the original idea of the first M3 than the current M3/4. The two series is a very interesting car, a definite upgrade from the 1 series, for sure and I’ve thought about the M240i over the M2 because I have no need for the latter: don’t plan on tracking it, it’s cheaper and the power to weight and price is optimal for me. About the transition from electric to the TSX… I’ll be dead honest: it didn’t work for me because of our lifestyle and driving needs. Then I thought that eventually we will all be driving electric appliances so the vintage feel of things like my manual transmission bmw made me swing in the opposite direction: for connectedness found in older cars and/or modern sporty cars: cayman, Miata, GR86, GTI, etc. To each their own, I’m happy with my choices today. Tomorrow? We’ll see!

For suspension upgrades, you could try a set of Bilstein B6 dampers with H&R OE Sport springs and top that off with a TL Type S rear sway bar. The springs lower the car just under an inch and I've read that they ride a tad firmer than stock. I have a set of those dampers for my '07 6 speed but have put the installation aside since the current dampers still have plenty of life left considering the mileage

Right now I’m alternating the old bimmer and this one so I’m “stuck” in this dilemma… I don’t want to sell either but I don’t want to park either on the street at night. I have the 2008 TSX and currently at 200K Miles. I had to replace an Alternator, got my Catalytic Converter stolen and replaced, and always been up with maintenance. Having said that, this car definitely a long lasting car. I honestly feel like this car can go 200K more.

Judging by the way mine is running at now 241k miles… I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs strong to the 300k mark. When I made this video 3 months ago my car had 236k. It now has over 241k. We have a new car now and will probably drive this one slightly less but I should break the 250k mark by the end of the year, hopefully without hiccups

These things are hit or miss. I've got 2x 2005 tsxs and one has been super low maintenance, but the other has had tons of stuff that's had to be replaced. In one year it's needed: clutch/flywheel/mainseal/bearing, PS pump, water pump, exhaust, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder. The other one? Starter and battery. Both cars have 100k miles..... One is just a lemon and actually makes me want to get a newer car. Preferably a Toyota I'm glad your 07 is working out so well.

That’s crazy! Neither one is a high mileage yet one of them has all the issues. This car keeps running super healthy. My only regret is not having gone OEM with the alternator because is noisy as hell. Otherwise a solid daily driver. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just add tints to keep the interior in good condition...Also just wrap the car don't paint it less money..You can also add a back up camera..Add a k&N filter you get better gas miles on the highway cause you get more air..I have 2008 265k have it for 8yrs great daily car

My 06 TSX now has issues with the driver's window. I think the driver's window motor / actuator is near the end of its life. The window moves up or down very slowly. On a cold day, there was no response when i pushed the power window button.

To prevent your other windows from slowing down, you should spray with silicone lubricant on the window seals/tracks. Keeps the motors from overworking. Unfortunately, your driver window motor still might need to be replaced at this point.

Very good review 👍 I'm thinking about getting a TSX Sport Wagon but I'm concerned about road noise and oil consumption. I heard the TSX have little to no sound deadening and the 4 cylinder motors can consume as much as 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles!

I love those wagons! About road noise: bad! Compare it to a product from Lexus and this is bad. There’s no way to sugar coat it. I’ve had many Honda/Acura products and that’s a constant. About the oil consumption… not my experience at all. I change the oil on this one every 5k miles and it doesn’t requiere me to top it off in between services. Good luck with your car hunt.

@@JuanCarlosLTO Good to hear your TSX does not have oil consumption problems. It is probably the ones that were abused and neglected that has issues. I drove an Acura Integra for a few years and the road noise was bad. Yes, seems to be a common problem with Hondas and Acuras. Sound deadening material can be added but that is tedious (if you DIY) and costly if you pay someone to do it. It also adds weight.

Hey, you said your TSX is fuel efficient. I’ve a 2004 TSX, the mileage on that seems to be really bad. That’s the only thing that puts me off a little. Other than that I love the car. Any suggestions to improve my fuel efficiency? I’ve around 216k kms on the car. Also do you recommend I use premium gas or mid grade?

Well, about fuel efficiency… Hondas of those years were low on torque so you have to step on it to get the revs up to get the car moving and that’s when it drinks fuel. I’ve had many Hondas and they all do the same. If you drive it like a grandpa then you’ll match the claimed efficiency. My guess is that you drive a lot in city and that stop and go doesn’t help much. I should have said: “efficient on highway driving”, because you’re right, not so much in city. As far as premium vs mid grade. I keep doing premium but honestly I don’t know why 🤷🏻‍♂️. Maybe because it says “required” on the manual? But if finances were tighter I probably wouldn’t.

If a TSX was taken care of, it will go a long long time, especially the manual trans as the auto would have issues UNLESS you maintenenced the auto trans regularly and didnt push it hard all of the time. I drive a RWD 08 infiniti M35 with 90k currently. Ive had 2 M35s. My bought my 1st 06 RWD M35 for 8 thousand dollars in 2016. It had 80k miles in it when i boughtit. I drove to 190k when i sold it to my friend who is still driving it over 200k miles now. I do recommemd buying a used M35 in RWD instead of AWD unless you need AWD where you live as AWD M35s have shorter life span generally. I also recommemd synthetic GTX oil change every 3k instead of 5k because M35s will burn oil unless you change every 3k with synthetic from time you buy it. If 1st owner didnt, and its already burning oil, its usually only a qt or 2 between changes. I bought the 08 M35 I have now 3 years ago for 10 thousand dollars with only 40k miles on it! Owner was retired and kept it garaged. Im at 90k now and its flawless. Doesnt burn oil at all since ive took care from 40k instead of 80k like my 06, it burned a little cause 1st owner only changed oil every 5 to 7k miles smh and with regular oil. It actually burned less over time after i switched it to synthetic every 3k miles. There is nothing wrong with an older Japanese Luxury sedan that still runs good! Ballin on a budget! Both of my M35s only needed oil changes, tune ups, tires and brakes. Not 1 other thing ever went out. Oh a battery lol. Thats it.

I actually had the M35 on my radar back in 06-07. But the car that makes me drool from Infiniti was the 2003-04 M45! Such a beautiful car. Unfortunately it had design flaws that tarnished its reputation. To this date I still enjoy seeing the very few I see on the road. And yes you’re right about everything else regarding old Japanese cars and maintenance.

@@JuanCarlosLTO The M45 V8 RWD is truly an immaculate car! I like all 3 generations but agree the 2nd gen 03 04 were the best. I test drove an 03 in Hawaii years earlier but ended up getting an I35* instead for better gas mileage. I wish id got that 03 M45 instead to this day haha! Its drove more like a 06 Chevy monte carlo SS with V8 and handled more sporty than 3rd gen. The 3rd gen are basically exactly like my 2 M35s with V8 instead of V6. I really want to get an M37 with black leather interior next. I saw one with a super light metallic blue paint and black leather with only 50k on engine garage kept for 14k. Japanese ballin on a budget!

My coworker had the 04 M45 and he said he had it since new and the main issue was the manifolds would deform and crack (either or or both, can’t remember) but he had gone to the aftermarket and solved the issue. Bad on gas and all, one of my favorites of all time, so much character, nearly hard to find on anything modern nowadays.

They’re actually OEM. I’ve seen some aftermarket that look similar but I went lengths to leave a note on the car I saw to inquire but never heard back.

I own a 2006 tsx. Done alot of mod work to it. Have 167k drives better then most newer cars. I'll have no plans getting rid of it. Gonna put performance cams in it.

@JuanCarlosLTO well I just bought new shocks. But they're pretty much oem . I'm am planning on getting coilovers which allow you to lower the car and it stiffens the suspension. Probably what you want too. I just havnt not read to do that yet.

@JuanCarlosLTO well understandable. Yeah they are adjustable shocks. The lower you go, the stiffer your ride will be. Tires matter as well. I put wider tires on mine. But it's not really noticeable. I'm aiming for more speed so alot of what I'm doing in motor work

Juan Carlos, with my TSX over 435,000km, I am wondering if my car can last for another 2 years without a hefty repair bill, which will pass 500,000km, since I drive about 30,000km annually. To make the situation more difficult, it takes time to buy a new car due to the long time to deliver a new car. I dont want to be in a situation without a car when the TSX collspses beyond repair. I recently just spend $375 to fix 2 exhaust leaks.

Hahaha. I think you’re in for the win as we just bought a new car and will be the one getting all the mileage now. I’m going to be daily driving the TSX to work every day though and that would be about 10k miles a year. Right now is at 241k. It only makes sense to keep it. The BMW will be a third car now on which I will probably only put about 2-3k miles max. I really want to get to 300k miles on the TSX but it will take me a lot longer now.

@@ronlam3654 a change of color is very hard to pull off unless you do a complete disassembly of all body parts, gaskets, etc. pearl white would be my choice as well. But getting it done correctly would be so expensive.

Juan Carlos, I just noticed that I have been driving my '06 TSX with the ground strap disconnected for 4 months😢. Must have forgotten to reattach the last time I worked on the battery. Any issues? Would it damage any parts? I notice that is a stain that looks like rainbow color under the car.

Juan Carlos , just bought an 2007 Acura TSX 5 speed automatic. Since it’s a 4 cylinder can I just put 87 in ? 87 and 91 is a $1 difference for me. Mine has 27k miles . I want to keep it for a long time. Rather put 87 but don’t want to ruin the engine in the long run, ?

Twenty seven thousand miles? Is that a typo? If it isn’t, you are one lucky person to have found a TSX with such low mileage! I really don’t know man I’ve been doing 9110 since I bought this one, but I really don’t know why because I don’t remember doing so when I had my new one 20 something years ago. And you’re right about the price difference between regular and premium it up in a full tank is $15 sometimes the difference. And question and this question keeps coming up on the comments of all my cars and I really don’t know what to answer. I just go by what it says on the manual and this one says required so that’s what I do. Other people comment that they do regular and the car runs fine but I’m afraid of the long term effects of a lower octane than the one listed as required. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My TSX has passed 432,000km. I bought it used with 15,000km. The engine and transmission has no issues, except the threads on the oil pan stripped and I now need to install a oil drain valve. I refuse to pay $700 to replace the oil pan for such a high mileage car. I am wondering why my rear brake pads and rotors wear out faster than the front

@RoseIsGC it’s hard to tell. These cars are very durable but at the same time people often abuse them thinking they’re indestructible. So it’s a case by case basis for it. Mine was always cared for and you can tell (minus the paint). But there’s many variables. As with any other car, higher mileage brings more breakdowns and repairs just because it’s an old car at the end of the day.

If you’re looking for a first generation, I’d say it really doesn’t matter. A couple of aesthetic upgrades in the latter years but otherwise the same car. I’d look for a manual transmission one to get the full experience and mileage is subjective as these can go a long way as long as they’re properly maintained. Manual transmissions are harder to find specially in good shape but they’re out there.

It’s a bit on the higher end of current prices for the mileage. If it’s in good shape, yes. Mine has 245k now and it’s in really good shape. How much would I buy it for? I’d say it’s a $7000 solid car, maybe more if I’m willing to wait, maybe less if it’s a fire sale. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I went with Michelin this time because I wanted to preserve the original look of the car as it comes with Michelin from the factory. These are different though. I couldn’t source the original model. I never had a bad experience with Kumho but take it for what it’s worth.

I disagree these are slow. It's how you drive them. Put them in manual mode and hold gears and as soon as 4000 revs passes the i-vtec motor becomes a monster. Also, the chassis employs double wishbone suspension that only very expensive cars these days have. This car is a bargain!

A bargain it is/was. It also has continued to be reliable after almost 2 years. I’m about to paint it. I was thinking of going with Lunar Silver Metallic (it’s a Acura color), that modern gray. I’m not a fan of color changing a car for all the details that must be addressed but it’d be fun… or stick with the current silver. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Koni yellow shocks and h&r springs would be a good suspension choice. No body roll but it soaks up the bumps better than stock and you can adjust the stiffness. No messing about with ride height you get a perfect 1.5" drop

Thanks for the input. I really hit the jackpot with my old BMW as I only dropped it about an inch, still OEMish stiffness so it’s not harder on the body than stock. I wonder if 1.5” it’s not too much for this old man… at this stage of my life I’m more function over form. I just went online… the 07 TSX ground clearance is 6.1 while the 2023 TLX is 5.3, so yes, almost an inch taller. So considering the TSX is a much shorter lengthwise and narrower wheelbase it gives this visual effect. It’s also shy of an inch taller than the TLX.
