This one makes me want to throw away any other fragrance I own! Beautiful work. I get vanilla after about 5 hours but then it changes again. It's like every perfume I love in a single bottle.

Hello Hello!!!! I really adore Zoologist fragrances. I recently bought a few of them, and the others I will buy very soon! I think this is such a unique masterpiece personally.

Yes it's very cool! I'm not sure I would buy it but that's only personal taste. I much prefer Beaver. Lovely stuff!

It smells like a tribute to vintage perfumery. I was a bit underwhelmed tbh, I was expecting something more naughty

I think I was expecting it to be way more heavy on the civet but I'm glad it isn't. I think it's amazing how the civet is used but never defers from the feel of the fragrance.

Vintage feel...daring...strong...I think I need to get a sample!!! Sounds awesome! Great review❤️

Yes! Definitely a bit daring. It's so so complex and like I said, not the "prettiest" fragrance in the world. Very cool!

I don't know if you've ever had the pleasure of smelling vintage Joy by Jean Patou, but this VERY MUCH reminded me of Joy. My grandmother used to wear it, and when I smelled it, memories of her immediately came flooding back to me.

This one keeeeeps popping up in comments ya know. I really need to try the real deal. I have only ever smelled a dupe one. I think I will smell it when I go to Paris in May. I will be sniffing out LOTS of things on that trip. :)

I actually enjoyed this so much since the first sniff...and thought about Joy instantly. I used up about 25ml of Joy, wearing it in everyday situstions, so I guess that's the best preparation :)

I first used civet oil as a fragrance in the 70s. It is very attractive to men as, in my opinion, it's a very sensual, intoxicating "come hither" scent. At one point I heard it was then banned in the US. I then used my civet oil very sparingly because I thought I wouldn't be able to ever get it again. Years later, I found it on eBay from France and I was in a bidding war with several people...and won the auction. I don't know if it's still banned in the US because...at least this was true back in the 70s...civet oil was made by the secretions from the genitals of civet cats. How lovely...I love the fragrance. Fast forward to 2010 when I took a trip to Egypt. In my travels I visited a perfume factory in which oils were sold. I was hoping to find civet oil on the list, but it wasn't. I spoke with the manager and asked if they sold civet. He seemed astonished that I had even known about civet. He told me they did sell it but since it was not permitted to be brought back to the US, it was not included on the list. I bought a large bottle of allegedly pure civet oil and took my chances to bring it home with me. It's still alluring, arousing and sensuous.

I think it's a very daring and controversial thing nowadays. Most civets you find will be synthetic. It's a very interesting note though for sure. Very carnal. :)

Ha! I used Civet oil too. Used to get it from the hippy/Indian shop. Everybody else was wearing Patchouli oil but I was a Civet oil girl. Lucky you finding the real thing!

A PS to my previous posting...I just (yesterday) returned from a trip to Paris and I think fragrances by Serge Lutens are very sexy, musky and intoxicating. They're very expensive but the scent lasts for hours. I bought 2 different parfums...both amazingly seductive scents.

The Zoologist animals are darling. I will probably choose one, eventually. Probably Nightingale or Hummingbird but maybe Bat, as I love them, too. :D I'll go see what you have to say about all of those. Did you choose a favorite or two? Civet is still very controversial, I'm afraid. In certain areas of the world they keep these lovely cats caged and to this day, sell & use their musk. I'm sure it's not used in most of the fragrances we try/buy, but perhaps used for extremely expensive scents for royalty etc. Anyway, hate to be the bearer of bad news but feel everyone should know what's up concerning our animal siblings. P.S. I happen to love "days of yore." Bygone days is good, too. Thank you, Mr. Attenborough. After hearing this, how can I not order samples? I must do.

Oh NO.....POOR Civets. I honestly though that the practice as completely over. Who o earth still uses real civet in their fragrances? :(
@hollybronwyn81767 жыл бұрын
I suspect it may be used in Arabic perfumery ... e.g., very expensive perfumes sold in Dubai, perhaps ...? Indonesia still cages them, Africa and I believe Russia. I can't remember all I read but it's desperately sad. Shit, I just looked at Wiki, poor sweet thing. :*( i'm so sad about what we humans do. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civet

Hi everyone!😊 I realize I’m quite late to the party,but I wanted to let you know that Zoologist doesn’t use real animal civet (THANK GOD) they use a plant based “civet like” civet. They are completely cruelty free,yay!!❤️ they also use real hyrax,but that is some kind of hard poop deposit left behind by the animals 😆❤️so no harm to the precious hyrax creatures,yay again! (Hyrax poops are also called hyrax,an ingredient in some perfumes) HOPEFULLY it’s always cruelty free by any perfumer who uses it. But you definitely don’t have to worry about Zoologist’s Hyrax😊 Ouch,you are so sweet and give amazing reviews 😊😊
