If you upgrade slightly to the G1Xon it has an assignable pedal for volume/wah/expression etc.

I believe the G1X4 is newer so would go with that!

To be honest if you are new to effects I would reccommend something from the boss me series - I have a review coming out tomorrow for the me50 which is an old but very handy bit of kit. 30s just isn't enough to really play around with looping imo (can barely a 12 bar blues in it!)
