I watch this video every time we need to record something for work to make sure I get it right. - we use sign languages interpreters so its really helpful as Zoom likes to focus on those who speak - not helpful when people are signing! Thanks so much

Important to note this is for local recordings. In cloud recordings, pinning doesn't change the active speaker on recordings, but spotlighting does.

This was a great video. Came close to answering my questions. We use Zoom in trial depositions. The thumbnail of the deponent is always so small when sharing screen for an exhibit. Recorded locally in may be able to be increased a bit. Your recording at 11:45 gets the two panels almost equal. Exactly the effect we are looking for. Then at 12:25 it increases the thumbnails to an marginally acceptable size. Please see if you can address this in another video. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim - sorry for the delay, I'm catching up on my backlog of comments - and thank you for the contribution! If you have a Pro account you may wish to explore cloud recording which can record the shared screen, speaker, and gallery views to three separate video files. You can then edit them together using a third-party video editor at whatever size you wish. Another option is to use a third-party screen recorder to record instead of Zoom - that will give you *exactly* what you see on your own screen so you can size things as you wish, instead of whatever weirdness Zoom does.

Ben, great video. I 've several of the comments and your replies and I have similar one. I've been recording webinars and find the video's of the panelist are always pinned to the top right and I'm looking for a way to record side by side, similar to what you featured in a shared screen from another user. I've been testing different configurations, recording to the cloud, and watching without success. To your knowledge, if I am the host/zoom subscriber, while screen sharing, is there a settings configuration that will record all of the panelist in a side by side view? Shared screen on one side, videos on the other. I find the overlapping default to be very annoying. Thank you very much!
@BenFinio2 жыл бұрын
Hi - it's been a while since I made this video, but to my knowledge the only way you could do this is to record to cloud with a pro account, record gallery and shared screen views to separate files, and then use third-party video editing software to edit them together in the configuration you want.

If you really want that then you would have two options. One, use a third-party screen recording program like OBS Studio to record while you're in side-by-side mode. Two, do cloud recording with a pro account and record speaker, shared screen, and gallery views to separate video files, then edit them together using video editing software in whatever size you want.

I’m recording to the cloud. When I spotlight a second device to show my students something in more detail, the recording comes back as that device in gallery view and it is then hard for students to go back and see the detail in that screen. Is there any way to get that second device to stay large in the zoom recording?
@BenFinio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane - when you say second device, do you mean you already have yourself spotlighted? Maybe this would be a bit of a pain, but you could un-spotlight yourself first, then spotlight the other device, so it is the primary/speaker view?
@JaneHauprich2 жыл бұрын
So I’m the main speaker. I’ve got a phone overtop of an area to demonstrate something. I take the spotlight off of myself and place it on the secondary device. In the zoom recording, the secondary device only shows up in a small frame as part of the gallery view instead of being spotlighted like when I am in the recording. I hope that makes sense. Any suggestions? I contacted zoom about a year ago and they said they had certain limitations with recording. I assumed that this fell into those limitations.

So as noted in the text around 4:40 - I am not 100% sure why that happened, I think it might be because I was recording on two different monitors, one 1080p and one 4K. Otherwise, normally it will record like you're seeing, with the thumbnails overlapping the shared screen.

Ben, you're so kind for replying to everyone. Quick question: if you are sharing your screen but then you'd to speak to the group without the slides for a bit, do just hit stop sharing and Zoom will put you back in the main presentation mode - full screen? I assume you'll lose your place in the powerpoint file?
@BenFinio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea - you're correct, if you just want to speak to everyone without the slides then you just need to stop sharing, then you can resume. I think whether you lose your place in the Powerpoint file depends on whether you are doing regular screen sharing or using their built-in "Powerpoint as virtual background" feature - the latter might make you start over, but I'm not sure. Early Jan 2022, I'm learning Zoom and for some reason, every time I go into screen share, it just goes to full screen. I've tried with and without the "side by side" box in the settings for screen share and it doesn't do anything. I also cannot access the view at all when in screen sharing mode. It's bizarre to me that something that is so easy to use in some ways is so incredibly counter-intuitive in others. I've tried a number of different options for screen sharing and they all seem to lead to the same results.

The grey separating line between the shared screen and the thumbnails is not available. Thus , as a host I can not increase the size of those thumbnails. This grey line is visible in the participant's screen and the size of thumbnail can be manipulated by dragging those grey lines. How can a host increase size of thumbnail?

@marlonalbia This is the most frustrating thing with zoom. It wasn't originally designed for broadcasting (1 presenter to many people). Screen sharing makes sense for collaboration, but it's less optimized for broadcast scenarios.
