So, from this video I get that there is no crossing over of the "I" after the death of ego, so to speak. I've been listening to Advaitist speakers, and they always emphasize staying with the "I". That always bothered me, and in frustration I no longer listen to them. Yet, I've come upon your presentation and now it seems to resonate. Thank you.

I've come this far investigating on belief and identity. Common sense tells me that there should be some real entity that believes a story told by whatever for belief to work. The same goes for identity as well. But so far, I still can't find the entity.

God is just a strange word. But so is "this" or "energy" or all the other terms used to attempt to explain or "share" what can never be explained or shared. There is just God. We do not know what a single thing is. There is no self that can or will know God. God is all that is and Nothing has to be returned to the Divine. God cannot be known. God is not a “What” or an "It" or a "This", or anything that can be said, seen, smelled, thought, heard, felt or known. God is the ocean, the sky and the garbage dump.

Yes, the me finding out about itself is the apparent illusion. However, liberation would just be the end of that (illusionary) sense of 'I am'. It has nothing to do with the 'I' itself and what this (illusionary) 'I' understands, thinks, realizes. The 'I' cannot see that it is an illusion.
