As you stated, I'm learning Zoom because I need to learn it. Battled my way through piles of Millennials who assumed I know things I don't know...and gleaned information. Then I saw an age-friendly face and started watching your tutorials. You're a gifted teacher and best of all: trying to follow what you say doesn't give me a headache. So thank you very much indeed!

We're using an older laptop to teach live online yoga. We chose the laptop because we can link it to a secondary large screen TV via HDMI, which allows a decent view of the participants video to offer modifications on poses. The laptop also allows a side chat bar, without taking up too much screen. I like the idea of switching to a smart phone for quality, but I'm worried about losing the larger screens we now have. And thanks for all the info you provide. Been watching since your PBS days, lol.

We will be using Zoom for church leadership meetings and staff meetings, so this was very helpful. I telework for my job at a major health care provider in MN, but all of our meetings take place without video so I'm behind the game on using video etc. One positive of the covid19 is that I've been forced to get my butt into the world of recording videos as well as video conferencing I'm actually enjoying it and by the time this is over should have a pretty sweet home recording studio set up! Awesome video, Steve!!! We are not allowed to use Zoom where I teach due to privacy and security concerns. I've been reading about a lot of red flags concerning Zoom in this area, from class action lawsuits that acuse Zoom of sharing user analytics with 3rd parties like Facebook to Zoom's privacy and security practices being under scrutiny by the Attorney General's office of the state of New York. Not trying to be a spoil sport! Just thought your users might want to pause for a second or two before jumping into the Zoom arena.

Nice sound, Steve! Very, very much appreciate your time in putting this together. I have used an elevated laptop, iphone, and an ipad pro in my quest to get the best overall setup for Zoom meetings. Here's my take: iPhone -- easy, but too small for video conferencing, because everyone is just too small, especially in Zoom gallery view. iPad Pro -- easy, better because of bigger screen, but the camera angle is not adjustable. Last night we had a Zoom 'dinner' and we had to put the iPad pro about 6 feet (1.8m) away to get the three of us in the shot, and then we found ourselves shouting to be sure our voice carried to the mic on the iPad, and at 6 feet away, the screen was a little too far away to easily see our dinner guests. I then started investigating putting an external mic on the ipad pro with only a usb-c port. Ugh! Lastly, I have used just a laptop with its built-in camera/mic, but with external speakers, and with the laptop on a cookbook stand on top of a stack of books to get the camera at forehead level. The laptop's camera viewing angle is wider, so we can have the laptop more than 1/2 the distance closer to us for the same dinner shot. But I know the mic is sort of crappy. Still looking for better sound, but I don't think my laptop can handle both external speakers and a mic. Also, would like to be able to control the camera viewing angle, but haven't found if that's possible. So, lots of material to cover. Again, thanks!

I use a Logitech C920 for ZOOM calls, video only, and a Electrovoice RE320 mic into an audio interface for audio. It's hard for me to imagine using an iPhone with those crappy ear buds as a "vast improvement" when it comes to audio. There are lot's of inexpensive mics that could save the day. I know, I had a Blue Yeti back when I took a class from you, eons ago. P.S. I also use Webcam Settings ($7.99) to control my Logitech. Highly recommend.

I appreciate your videos, you are a great role model for how to get the most out of Zoom. I have two questions: 1) Bandwidth: Is there anything I can or should do to compensate, different hours? a booster? (there's nothing else streaming in the house). 2) File Size: I have a Zoom Pro account. I've written children's stories and narrate them for my little relatives to watch at their leisure. During narration, I screen share using Photos on Mac Book Pro, from an album of 70 to 100 photo slides, each slide is 3 to 4 MB. Is there a way to decrease file size before or during the screen share to minimize the amount of Cloud storage?

I'm using my computer, but I had a really cheap webcam that made me look like something from the Black Lagoon. I switched to using an old phone for my camera and it looks much much better. I have a head set with a mic that ends up right by my mouth so sound quality is pretty good. I've also been using the Zoom background trick to disguise the fact that my office is in my cellar and does not look good. It's a little flacky at times, but looks much better with a backgound I uploaded that relates to my business.

Hello, Firstly, I like to say thank you for these videos. I'm new to Zoom using it to conduct my 1:1 tuition sessions and have found them extremely useful. I wondered if you could help me with a problem I have. I have scheduled meetings with my tutees and have had no problems with audio. However, I have one tutee whom I cannot hear. My screen doesn't indicate that I am receiving audio from her. She is not muted either by me or at her end. The visual is good. She has been working on other platforms and has no problem with her microphone on them. The only difference I can see with this tutee is that she plugs earphones in for our sessions. Greetings from France folks have said it all in the posts below, many many thanks Steve for your presence on the www, your insight into tech matters and yor talent as a presenter. Not to mention what you've achieved as entrepreneur as we discover the list of your activities & links. I need to use ZOOM to give a class to my fellow choristers. - I need to be filmed on videocamera as I'm doing my instruction (stream the instruction) - and keep monitoring the meeting via ZOOM on my PC since I've been told I can use a smphone or tablet - on a tripod - to get myself filmed via ZOOM while running ZOOM on my laptop (by my side) for monitoring purposes. I haven't totally succeeded as yet. I get a huge Larsen - sound interference - affecting the streaming. Thanks for this, Steve. I have been watching your videos since the beginning of lockdown, and they've helped me climb a very steep learning curve. My organisation like many many others is using Zoom instead of f2f teaching, and from a beginner 3 months ago I am now teaching students and fellow tutors how to use the prog (scary...). However, one problem has been how to help so many ipad students when I don't actually own an ipad. I know we recommend our tutors to use a laptop because we recommend Closed Captions and Polls - don't think these are available on mobiles. But this video has helped enormously with the ipad situation, now I can see the screen in action! A couple of points: as I mentioned above, I know that not every feature is available on mobiles; secondly, do android screens (ie tablet and phones) differ much from the ipad screen? and 3, what about the amazon fire tablet? I have used all three - android phone, tablet and fire tablet, but I may still be missing a point and so I'm still not calling myself an expert.

Thank you, Mr Dotto. Great video. Simple, clear, intelligent, authoritative presentation style. A question. I’m currently using a Plantronics Legend headset. It’s Bluetooth, it integrates well with my laptop, Manycam and Zoom. However, the sound of the mic isn’t good enough, really. So I’m trying up upgrade the audio. I have a condenser mic which will run through an audio interface (PreSonus AudioBox iOne) into the laptop via USB. But what do I do for listening? Do I use laptop speakers? A Bluetooth speaker? If so, what about feedback? If I use headphones, will I need to buy a Bluetooth set for listening only? Or maybe a wireless monitoring earpiece... as singers use? (I don’t want big headphones, just a discreet earpiece for my right ear.... but my earpieces are for phones.. so they have both microphone and headphone connections to Bluetooth. Will that interfere with the USB mic connection? Or will the Zoom dashboard allow me to control audio input and output separately?) Finally, I am thinking I might like to use Rode Wireless Go (with a USB dongle and a Rode Lavalier mic... which I already possess). I realise that the options might be overkill for Zoom, since Zoom compresses the audio heavily. (But I have other uses for the tech besides Zoom). In any event, the current Plantronics set up is not really good enough. Hope you can maybe advise briefly? I realise your time is valuable. Love the high standard of this presentation on Zoom. Liked and subscribed.

Thanks so much for this! I remember watching your show years ago. You are an excellent teacher and presenter. I am now set up teaching my long term art students on Zoom, using my iPad and earphones. We are all enjoying it. I especially like the screen sharing feature on Zoom that allows me to share visual content. Do you have any tips or videos that deal with videotaping live painting? I’m having a hard time getting the iPad into a position that can be seen clearly - it’s on a tripod. Thanks again! Superior instruction.
@dottotech4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lori. Setting up for live painting is going to take some trial and error, I know even TV studios struggle with it. Single sourcing your feed (say from your iPad) is going to be difficult, but if you think about setting up a more elaborite setup, you could use a computer, several good webcams and a switching app like Ecamm Live to create a Virtual Camera, which si a dedicated video feed for Zoom that allows you to switch sources. It would take some effort, but it would be worthwhile.

My sister and her grandson (or audience of 4 sometimes)listen and participate in zoom meetings at least 4 time a week, but the only device they have is an android phone. Is there a connector available they can use for a speaker and mic without getting a feed back ? Thank you ! Mar.

Nice video Dotto - very helpful. I am getting a pinkish color cast in my Zoom image, using a Mac Book Pro - is there a way I can easily rectify this? I've tried all variations of my room lighting and desk lighting to no avail. :( I wish there was a basic brightness/hue/contrast/temp adjustment in Zoom!

Het Steve, I am enjoying your videos. As a participant I am trying to find out how to lower the volume on the audio on my iPad. There is no carrot next to the microphone on the iPad like there is on my Apple laptop.

Thank you for the Zoom videos. I had never even heard of this two months ago; last month I started trying to use it.

Thanks so much for this video. What would you recommend for recording and podcasting that is maybe between basic laptop or pc setup and a professional *read superexpensive* set up?

I'm trying to record sections for a class that I'm going to prerecord using zoom. I found you because my sound keeps going up and down. I'm going to play around with it. I think I'll do the intro on my phone but I will have to talk while showing slides for most of the course so I guess I'll see If I can mess around with the mic controls in zoom and maybe see if this webcam has a speaker like you suggested. I did buy a microphone on sale a couple weeks ago (just starting out) so I'll try that too. Very helpful thank you.
