This is so pretty and creative! It's a bit of a pity that the side showing to an audience doesn't show off the lovely artwork along the neck. Maybe a transparent fingerboard could protect the neck while also allowing neck artwork to show through it? I don't know if that would even work. Or maybe there could be no fingerboard at all. Instead, you press fingertips directly onto the neck, with the strings floating just enough for your fingernails to stop.

I often don't press the string to the fingerboard, much like an erhu. For the lower notes, it is harder to get a solid tone, so I do press to the fingerboard. The oak plank also adds rigidity and strength to the neck. I was considering doing the scales pattern along it, but on a test scrap I found it doesn't shade as nicely as on the fir, so I decided against it.

@@meercreate I realized a much simpler solution. Every once in a while, you spin the instrument around to show off the neck artwork. Obviously you aren't playing the instrument at the time. It's just a bit of performance flair.

I was considering this. Next time ☺️

The low tones sounds good, the higher ones not so much. Maybe the messed up string. Keep improving it.

It's also the bow and my technique. Keep in mind that I've only had about 1 hour of practice prior to demo.

@@meercreate oh no worries, I do understand just offering a little feedback from the peanut gallery.

Ever thought about selling one?

Maybe in the future, a more refined version perhaps. It's quite a quirky instrument as it stands. A classically trained cellist may find it "unplayable" due to the lack of radius on the fingerboard and high action. There are several improvements I would probably need to work out before I would consider the design built-to-sell
