Honestly the handheld entries in the nsmb series are the better ones, they have much better level design since they're made for only one person, the console entries feel so empty even with 4 players because they have to make the game so open just so 4 players have breathing room, 3d world is better because due to the 3D space, the players have better breathing room and a solo player doesn't feel empty when they play said levels since too much space isn't wasted for breathing room.

I believe this was the Mario game to start the "poison swamp" in forests trend. It's really interesting to see how it's handled and looks in different games. In this game it's transparent, like Water. In the most other games it's opaque. In Odyssey it's SUPER thick. Almost like it's pure concentrated poison. In Dream Team it's electrified. In Sticker Star, it's unnatural, and caused by a poison Gooper Blooper. And it gives poison damage instead of instantly killing you. It's quite fascinating to see how far the trope has come since NSMB, and I love seeing what they continue to do with it. _Also Mario should totally moonwalk around those swamps more often_
@DaNintendude2 жыл бұрын
Additional comments: -I really hope the Mawrays (eels) return to 2D in the future. Maybe just the small ones though. A stationary water enemy that lunges out to get you when you get near is a fun concept. -Cool to hear the Amps now called "Zappy Ampies". Fun mix of Zaps and Amps. -When I was younger I always thought it was cool that Bowser Jr wore his mask on his face when his behavior was different. It's a subtle, yet useful way to let us know to watch out. - I absolutely adored the Balloon Boo when I was young and would constantly replay that ghost house just to see it. Probably one of my favorite levels to replay in the game. -I remember playing 4's castle a lot too. Maybe because of the Goomba boss, which I guess I just loved when I was a kid. Speaking of the Goomba: the image of Toadsworth just letting a Goomba take a mega mushroom without questioning him about it is priceless. And the revenge plot is even funnier if you consider the fact that Mario didn't have to go to the Forest. If he went to World 3 instead, that Goomba would've never got his 2nd chance. He would've just sat there until the end of the game, wondering if Mario was ever gonna show up.

To answer the little Boss Quiz Question of sorts, it took some thinking back on my childhood-- back on when I repeatedly killed every boss mini in hopes of finding a secret-- I initially thought Petey Piranha but I remember him having an ice floor, and then I thought maybe a giant wiggler? But was that even a boss? Yet no, if I recall correctly, it is a Giant Goomba. For some reason.

SPOILERS FOR 4-CASTLE (Yes, really.) It does make perfect sense for the boss to be a comically large goomba. The proto-Mario world structure was introduced in Mario 3, where the toxic swamp was instead replaced by Giant Land, a world of giant enemies. Other toxic swamps have kept up this theme, such as the giant wigglers in NSMBWii or all the larger enemies in this world (Big Dorrie, Big Eels, Big-ish Boo, etc.) Plus Goombas do have some theming as a forest enemy. They're based on chestnuts and mushrooms, both things you find in a forest, and their relatives, the Galoombas, were introduced in Super Mario World's Forest of Illusion.

I was not disappointed. I'm also amazed at how much details I remember about this game, and about the wiggler around the donut blocks ? World 4 the Jungle world was that one world I always wondered how to get to. Once I did I found it was such a great feeling to actually explore, definitely tougher then the previous worlds but still fair. The cool unique levels, the purple lava of poison, great secret star coins locations, the bomb bomb sections, and nessie somehow eating a mega mushroom in between levels, just some really cool stuff. 13:24 Is that how you were supposed to get there, I could never really figure that and 15:32 out haha, also I like how the secret canon of this world brings you to the other unlockable world meaning there are two ways to unlock it. I always used the mega mushroom when it came to the mega Goomba, it just felt right and I like how the developers knew I would try that because all it takes is a simple jump on the Goomba once to damage. Another great analysis Zoom 👌 24:14 Is that a certain background ending code for a secret character I see 👀

You know, with the whole 'stronger variations of enemies' boss theme, I can't help but wonder if perhaps this world's castle was originally supposed to be world 1's final level, since a Goomba is about as basic as an enemy gets, perfect for the very first world, and it essentially getting the mega mushroom treatment is a nice parallel to the first level of the game in which you, the player, do the same. Maybe the devs needed to establish the "death" of Bowser early on, so ended up pushing this castle down the line? I dunno, just a thought, I could be wrong lmao, great video by the way, I love watching through these and seeing all the clever work that was put into this game

When I was a kid, I beat the W2 boss as mini on my first playthrough, thinking it was the intended method. I mean, not only is it easier to avoid the bullets if you're tiny, but the MASSIVE jump boost makes it SO much easier to get on that thing's head! However, after several days of running out of lives before being able to save my progress at the W4 tower, I went back to the W2 castle to try and unlock W3. I had such a hard time of beating the boss as regular Mario (since I was a much bigger target and had much jumps to reach the boss' head with) that I had to pocket a Fire Flower, save it for the end of the stage, and then spam fireballs whilst praying I didn't get hit at all before the pokey went down. But I did it- and the W3 levels were a paradise by comparison. I refused to finish W4 for some time (I think I waited for post-game, when saving became part of the menu). Also: Bowser Jr and Peach DO hop out of the W4 castle and run to W5 if you send them there the first time you beat W2. It applies that way to W7 too, I think. Basically, if at any time you beat a castle, and the animation for entering a world for the first time (Jr and Peach running to the first tower) has already played in that next world, they won't hop out of the castle, and Mario will go alone. This applies to cannons too, I think- if you shoot from W2 to W5 and trigger the W5 cutscene, and then go back to chase Jr out of W2 and then beat the next world's castle of your choice, they won't hop out when you beat it, since they were already spotted in W5- even though you clearly just chased them through the world you were just in.
