Its worse than you think. I'm an engineer and I can tell the whole driverless car thing is sci-fi masquerading as fact. We just don't have anything close to the capability of what the human visual cortex does. Once you analyse what the human eyes and brain do when we drive a car. The amount of information being processed is so far of the scale its hard to comprehend. I have a degree in aerospace but have worked in industrial control systems for 30+ years. The idea that you can replace the human visual cortex with some laser scanners and cameras and make it work for every instance that can be imagined is idiotic. This is yet another case of techno snake oil salesmen baffling the technically illiterate and uneducated.
