The best underrated guitarist of this century! Rock on emppu!
@alexei9334 жыл бұрын
@@pluviophilius2354 , you aren't a guitar player neither. Don't tell me about number of notes per second and so on. There are huge number of guitarists with brilliant technics , but nobody knows them with except of musical experts and thier colleages. Why? Because they are not able to deliver their emotions to listeners with the music. Music is not a sport , it's an art , try to remember. Even better for you to note it somewhere, try not to lose this post

@@pluviophilius2354 I'm a guitarist also, and in my opinion its not hard to do some mindless shred, but its really difficult to write a beautiful solo. I know Emppu isn't the best, but you have to accept the fact, that he can't show his true playing every time because its another genre of music. (But he CAN shred ofc--> Romanticide).
@nagyrobert28684 жыл бұрын
@@pluviophilius2354 Yes, i did read, i just gave a short answer based on your comments. I didn't defended or attacked anybodys opinion, i just wrote mine. I accept your opinion as well, as the others. You were right in one side, there are betters then Emppu, but i said it. It depends on the listeners style, who is the best for him. (F for those, who think f.e. Ed Sheeran the best guitarist🤣)
@hannesk78003 жыл бұрын
@@pluviophilius2354 I would disagree to some extent. While Emppu isn't as flashy or technically excellent as players like Luca Turilli, Jari Mäenpää, Teemu Mäntysaari etc, I would say he's up there among the top class of guitarists. If you listen to everything he's played, not only for Nightwish, but his other projects as well, you have to admit that he's a very versatile guitarist and extremely good at writing solos that serve the song. And I'm also a guitar player with around 14 years of guitarring under my belt. While I agree with you that there are several even better guitarists out there, I also agree with the sentiment that Emppu is underrated.
@hefenzy2 жыл бұрын
I mean I love Nightwish material, but this guitarist is not actually that good. Of course better than clowns like Kirk or Slash, but still not the best underrated. There are even more underrated like neoclassical shredder David Chastain for example

His solo in High Hopes sent me to a different world. Ever Dream solo is powerful and emotional. And Romanticide is sick AF.
@mallement4 жыл бұрын
His solos are fairy tales on in themselves - they are not just solos for the sake of soloing, they contribute and forwards the songs perfectly. Sleeping Sun and Dead Boy's Poem are subtle and simple, but they just add so much to the songs without taking over.

His ability to pull so many different sounds out from the same guitar blows my mind. A lot of artists have three or four different guitars, each one tuned for an specific sound. He does all of this with just one guitar. Legend.

Uhh man that is not true at all. He is using mainly his EV-1 live since years thats right but it looks pretty diffrent in the studio. On the first albums he played a Nuno Washburn signature after that he used the cs780 by Washburn. Moreover he used a Tokai Les Paul on Century Child. Futhermore he owns a turqouise Fender Custom Start, a Ruokangas Hellcat Custom, multiple Esp guitars with hard tail bridges as well to record rythm guitars, several Gibson Les Pauls (mentioned by him in an interview with a german magazine) which he used for the Once recordings. For Slow Love Slow he used a semi hollow guitar in the movie and maybe in the studio as well. Once he said that he cant count the guitars that he owns.

Emppu is a great guitarist..and very underrated! I have listened to several guitarist talk about how Emppu doesn't play solos with wild abandonment... he plays them to bring out the emotions of the listener. Just listen to his solos in "Dead Boy's Poem"..... "Sleeping Sun"...." Ever Dream" .... "Ghost Love Score"...." Endless Forms Most Beautiful"...heck..they all fit in perfectly! I wish he played acoustic guitar more often....like some groups do acoustic versions of their songs! One of my favorite bands from the 1970's, Foreigner, does acoustic versions of their hits...and they are great!

They're both phenomenal guitarists, who probably would have shown great admiration and respect to each other's work and efforts, I love both of their playing styles. There's no need to bash Eddie! Emppu is amazing, and Eddie is a revolutionary guitar pioneer. Without either one, metal guitar wouldn't be where it is today! No need to disrespect one to acknowledge another!

I should have worded it differently. It wasn’t a bashing, I was trying to say that Van Halen was based around Eddie’s guitar, so most songs had to fit with his guitar solos. Empuu plays whatever the song needs, most of the time while not being in the spotlight. Not saying Eddie wasn’t a guitar pioneer, I myself just didn’t like the “show off, look at me” attitude of Eddie

Slow, Love, Slow came out of nowhere. It has the feel of a smoky 1930s cabaret. My parents would have felt right at home with it (both born in the 1920s). I'm sure a lot of Nightwish fans don't like it because it isn't metal - but it is one of their best songs. In a way it proves the band is so good that they can do anything.

He reminds me to Friedman not in style of course but in that they always play to elevate the song, and their chops always serve their melodic sense. Lots of feel. I feel the last few albums lack his input. If you hear oceanborn or wishmaster, is stack in great guitar riffs that obviously tuomas didnt compose, ex the devil and the deep dark ocean or passion for the opera. So probably there was more exange of ideas back them, more synergy and thus the band was a lot greater

They did not have as much vocal diversity as they do now though, floor can sing anything and Marco and Troy can sing all the stuff she can’t sing.

@@cheeseisjar3058 So what, metal is about riffs first and foremost.
@cheeseisjar30584 жыл бұрын
MetalPersonJ I think that’s true for a lot of metal but I think Tuomas’s songwriting is all about the full song instead of taking one riff and making that go for most of the song. Not that nightwish doesn’t have songs based around a single riff but the songs are always focused on everything making something together that’s awesome instead of showing off with an awesome solo.
