I forgot how great these episodes are - the swordfights, the humorous dialogue, the ensemble cast, the chase scenes... I like the touch of the singing prisoner, the angry townsfolk, the lancers who all got to be part of the final chase/battle. They really give the setting and place more life and a feel of reality. I like that we see Don Diego having a relationship with his servants and doing his best to care but also advise against rash action. And I love how willing he is to put his life on the line for the sake of others. He is clever, brave, funny, and able to stand up for justice as Don Diego and as Zorro. He treats others well, whether servant, lady, padre, decent soldier, etc. I like the values the show promotes, and how it's not even just Don Diego who objects to things the commandante does; others feel like he is violating what is legal and just as well in pursuit of power and status. It just felt like a really exciting and well-written episode, full of the things I love about this series.
