I like this episode for the simple fact that it demonstrates how much life can cause your plans to go amiss. Zorro was observant and knew when to do reconnaissance and seek more information. He had successfully sent a message earlier in the episode using that method too. And yet, he can't account for kids or wind or little doggies. I like that he's not perfect or invincible, and sometimes situations are out of his control. I feel like so many more modern shows let their heroes always solve things easily, with nothing going wrong, not even basic life things like people being distractible or a message going astray. I like that this show continues to build a world that feels lived in, and filled with people doing their normal life activities. We see them going to church, buying and selling in the marketplace, eating supper or enjoying time with friends in the tavern, traveling to attend events, and so forth. Some modern shows have a very small cast of main players and we seldom even get to know or care or notice anyone else around them. They live in faceless cities that might as well be empty, and people are just part of the background. If a whole building gets destroyed while the main characters are fighting or stopping a bad guy, there's no noticing or caring at all the lives destroyed or damage caused. I guess I just like the setting and that it feels more realistic and personal.

Considering that Garcia couldn't stop children from playing, Heaven help him from ever stopping Zorro.
