Zou-Pi Pepper Review and Tasting of One Interesting Pod also know as a Shar Pei Pepper.

Not too spicy with a SHU between 8,000 and 10,000. Originating from southern China this is a unique looking pepper that brings a lot of flavor. I was surprised but the hint of smokiness in the flavor of the pepper.
I am loving my pepper garden for the 2023 season and I am enjoying tasting some of my some ripe peppers.

Sounds like a delicious pepper. I personally take seeds out before tasting, but I know a lot of people don’t. I decided I’m not as fond of having to chew on them and sometimes it changes the flavors…..

The pepper was great and the little hint of smokiness was very nice. I agree with you that the seeds are not enjoyable. I only eat the seeds on camera to show I am tasting an intact placenta which contains most of the heat. The seeds contain no heat but are covered in the juice from the placenta. Otherwise the seeds are taken out. Thank you

I grew some of these a couple years ago, buddy gave me some seeds, seems he called it something else but..... I enjoyed dicing them, removing the seeds because there was so many, and adding them to a salad or tossing them into skillet with my trinity, onions, bellpepper and celery, when cooking... Very little heat.....

I have seen a few different names for these and I don't understand why the names get changed on some of these peppers. Zou-pi was the name on the packet I purchased and seemed to be the consensus when I did my quick research. Thank you

I grew these a few years ago and they definitely have an interesting shape but the heat level was too low. The flavor was alright but not special enough for me to grow them again.

Sounds like the heat is not there. If I were to grow a Chinese pepper I would look hard at the Yellow Hainan Lantern.

I’m definitely reconsidering this pepper. I’ve “ planted the seed” with a Chinese origin neighbor to go in with me to get seeds for both this and the yellow lantern. Only 6 months to go to get started again welp ☹️.

Yep, I am looking forward to next year. I just cherrypicked a couple of large 21 gram yellow habanero’s from a local supermarket and will save seeds for next year. Beautifully shaped, they look like little elongated pumpkins with thick walls.
