Zoucun Taizu Chang Quan 周村太祖长拳 - 太祖拳 - Song Taizu Chang Quan
--General Information:
In the North People know two kinds of Taizu Quan(Emperor Boxing) one coming from Emperor Zhao Kuanyin, Founder of the Song Dynasty and the other is from Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang Founder of the Ming Dynasty.
People distinguish the two by calling Zhaos Boxing Taizu Chang Quan and Zhus Boxing Taizu Hong Quan.
As such you can asume the methods of Taizu Chang to be pretty old. There are also legendary connections between Zhao Kuanyin and the Shaolin Temple. its said that he learned Shaolin Martial Arts at his Youth which added to his success in his millitary career Which at least partly contradicts with the fact that he was already the son of a millitary commander in my opinion.
Yet, as holding the highest millitary rank at some point,(besides the Emperor) he certainly was very good at Martial Arts.
Over the years there were always disscusions on how Millitary Martial Arts looked like.
The main argument was that most of the Traditional Martial Arts are too extensive and it would take too long to teach a Millitary into being profound doing it (also implying that they are not practical).
Which can at least partialy be true in terms of that you have to act differently on the battlefield sometimes as in two men combat.
While not totally denying the argument I think both can be true at once. That Millitary Families taught extensive Martial Art Materials inside their Families and that they taught more condensed Materials to their Soldiers.
