Excellent review! I'd been eyeing the Nero for a while now for my next Camino and for a few other hikes over here in Europe, and you really sold me on it! Keep being Awesome man! Thanks!

The current model has clips at the end of the rolltop and the cinch cords. Also o ditched the included seat pad and replace with a Coleman closed cell foam $7 bucks for 72x25 sleeping pad cut to size. It's actually lighter weight than the included pad by .2 oz...even trimmed larger to keep from moving

I'm looking at bags I can run with. How was running and moving fast? Have you tried any other bags. Great review.

Hi, we met at Trail Days 2018 in the middle of my successful AT thru hike. I used an Arc Blast for it which I'm very pleased with. I want to up my game and toy with ultralight. Great review. Gotta get one.

my ONLY two gripes about my Nero pack is there is no strap for people who use Zlite pads or other foam type pads..so you HAVE to use an inflatable pad..it needs a top strap..other gripe is the cords for the roll top..which you already know..its a quirk and not that bad it likes to twist....but not having a strap anywhere on the pack for a foam sleeping pad is one thing that bugs me..i use a zlite pad a lot and i cant with this pack. so i have to carry my static V instead. HEY Zpacks!..look into adding a strap for a Zlite pad..lol even a cord like the side but over the top would work..lol or on the bottom..id add one myself but i dont want sew into this beautiful pack..lol
@huycao97887 жыл бұрын
Could you carry the Zlite vertically in the big mesh pocket? I've carried a small Zlite in the mesh pocket of my GG Kumo before.
@MatanuskaHIGH7 жыл бұрын
no not really it doesnt fit right sticks out . tried that and tried the back pocket. guess ill stick with an inflatable for now untill i grow the balls to sew into the pack and make a strap..lol
@huycao97887 жыл бұрын
Yeah it stuck up on my Kumo too but I thought maybe the mesh pocket on the Zero/Nero is taller. Zpacks sells adhesive patches with loops already sewn on that might work if you don't want to sew into the pack.
@MatanuskaHIGH7 жыл бұрын
yeah but the loops only stick to the inside cuben fiber..the outside is a 50D nylon laminated to the cuben..so adhesive wont stay on it.

Well you know what you have to do. lol. Good luck

Nice for super minimalist. I think I would still keep the ArcBlast for my needs.

Great review. I'm not an ultra light guys, I"m always in the 25lb range with food and water, so would not work for me, but I do love to see new packs and hear reviews. I love my ULA circuit,.. by ultra light standards it's probably considered a heavy pack :-)

I just undo the clips, roll the top, clip the cords back together and pull tight. POOF! Mine never tangles doing it like that.

Thoughts on solplex vs duplex....I usually use a mld duomid but looking at solplex for me and my 20lb dog when it's buggy. I'm 5'11" 210....think solplex is big enough?

BigFoot, Being a fellow Twin Cities hiker, have you ever tried hiking in Carver Park, in Victoria, MN? It has a very nice 7-10 mile trail that is a great training and entertaining hike. Maybe I'll see you on the trail. Skillet

Do you feel that the hipbelt really supported any weight? It's not load bearing is it? Seems like it'd be more restrictive than supportive.
@FollowBigfoot7 жыл бұрын
+The Mailman When I had 20-21lbs it was very effective with giving me the support off my shoulders and onto my waist. But once i was around that 15lb load, it felt much comfortable and I feel that it was effective. I did feel a difference without the hip belt, and with it when I had that 15ish load weight (I tried it to see if I could just take off the hip belt)
@MatanuskaHIGH7 жыл бұрын
i like it cause my pack wont swing when im moving fast..but most people probably wont use it..i prefer hip belts myself .always have even my school packs growing up had hip belts.. tried without one and my pack swing back and forth when im hiking..the belt keeps it from doing that..also..if you use a zlite backpad with this pack you can actually rest the weight on the hipbelt and let the shoulders back to let airflow and to relax the shoulders. 15 lbs isnt that much and this pack supports it just fine..

It's a neat little pack, but I just don't see this as the better option when put up against packs like the MLD Burn. The craftsmanship just doesn't look as good, although never having had one in hand I could be wrong. I really like ZPacks for their shelters, but I don't think their packs are up to quite the same standard.
@FollowBigfoot7 жыл бұрын
+Lachlan Derrick that would be cool to compare the two. Perhaps down the road I'll try and get my Hands on one, but I have never sported the Burn

I own a Gossamer Gear Murmur Hyperlight with 38L capacity (374g/13,2oz) - and build quality is very good. I can absolutely recommend this pack!

i love my Nero..its very well built for what it is..
@astrog8tr7 жыл бұрын
What do you think of this as a day pack or for an overnight, no tent?
@FollowBigfoot7 жыл бұрын
+astrog8tr It would be just fine for a day pack. I would probably just detach the hip strap if I was just using as a day pack (little more comfortable).

On another KZbin video it advises you not to remove the sit pad as the waist belt setup rubs on clothing causing fraying problems for said clothing.
@jhonyermo6 жыл бұрын
That is crap. Makes no difference whatsoever.

That pad sucks. If I knew how it rides up, I wouldn’t have bought the pack. I took it off

I'm all for reducing my base weight, I get it, But, can anyone honestly tell me that they can feel a beneficial effect from removing a cord, a few inches of webbing or a piece of closed cell padding. To me its looking like a pissing contest. If anyone sincerely believes they can the difference between a 7lb base weight and one of 7lb 2/3 Oz base, good luck to them, but honestly I cannot. If I'm down to a base and trail weight that is a comfortable carry for the duration of my hike, I'm happy with that, and I'm not going to obsess about gram/ounce savings which have no observable benefit. Time to kick this nonsense into the long grass, for me anyway. Here in UK, cuben fibre/DCF, whatever they're calling it this week is not quite as rare as rockin-horse shit, but close. One or two pack makers, but so far that's about all, in fact I have not yet been able to handle or examine anything cuben fibre,and have only YT videos to go on, so my unfavourable impression regarding the crackling like a crisp/chip packet noise it makes when handled might not be anywhere near as annoying as the video sound makes it out to be. If its going to creak and crackle at all when it's on my back that's going to be a definite and irreversible deal breaker.for me. In fact I could not even tolerate it in camp. That sound would destroy whatever landscape induced serenity I might have attained and destroy the sanity I seek to preserve. So for now I'll stick with dyneema gridstop, light enough, quiet enough, never seems to wear out, and a whole lot more affordable. Doubtless there are applications for which DCF is the best you can get, but I suspect that making complete packs out of it might not be one of them.
