The issue with this kind of sentiment is that there are always members of the team who die trying to take fights they have no business initiating, and are looking for someone to blame for their own terrible decisions. Which of course ends up being the only living member of the team whos doing something actually useful. It's the most cliché complaint that bad players often make.

I think what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I'd also add to it by also thinking of who should play top (Releaving pressure) vs bottom (Creating pressure). In this case, jugg is probably the only one who should play top most often. He's most survivable, he cannot make plays, so there's no reason for supports to be around him. Supports can always TP back to help jugg

Masterful phone call at the end. Another issue similar to this is if the initiator plays super far back or something, in that case also I think you just gotta stand go to them, even if it's at t2 or 3 at 15 mins and embarrass them into playing forward a bit more.

I feel so bad for this axe, he does the right thing, stomps his lane and what does he get? 4 teammates who arent even willing to pick up the free win hes serving them, unable to do the most basic thing of sitting behind the strongest hero on the map (and probably flaming him nonstop). And then after 25 minutes of this, his lead is gone and he tilts and refuses to play with these idiots. Cant even blame him, they dont deserve to win. And snap is so arrogant to submit this to a youtuber, convinced its only these damn people who refuse to teamwork holding her back. Snap, add this axe and apologize to him.

1. Match Id: 7107643651 2. Hero: Tidehunter 3. Hi, ZQuixotix. Recently, I've played a lot of offlane with a friend of mine. I feel like at my rank Tidehunter is good at filling holes in my team as needed, which is the kind of offlaner I like to play. I've spammed him a lot recently. I'm feeling pretty good about my item builds, team strats, and map location. Unfortunately, this game was very different from the start. We had no hard carry which meant I needed to do something drastic to have a chance of winning the game. Was that instinct wrong? Would playing a normal tidehunter build/game be more advised even when you feel like your draft has major holes in it? The OD was the main source of perceived grief/tilt in the game. Keep a look at his items/banishes during fights - it added onto the perception that the game was impossible to win. Genuinely, this is one of the most impossible games of dota I have played in recent memory and I am hoping that you can share how you would have tried to get a win out of it.

Question: if the team is playing suboptimally, is it your responsibility to cater to the team and play in a suboptimal manner, or should you just keep playing your game? for example in this game, axe was doing the right thing staying bot technically instead of joining the cluster top at 10 min where 4 heroes were milling around getting nothing done. should he stay bot, or just join his team top, blink call a hero or two, and take the top tower? i get into these situations sometimes where i think the right move is to just keep doing what i'm doing, but then i get spam pinged and it hurts team cohesion, and also to be fair, while my tping top wouldn't be the best move, it still probably results in an enemy kill or two + a tower. also a lot of times i see my cores stack up and farm the same area even though there is an enemy wave pushing our tower. oftentimes i feel like a core should be taking that farm while i am free to go about and do other tasks, but since no core ever rotates over, i just can't justify letting free farm go to waste, so i just sit there in lane. wards don't get placed, things don't get stacked, i'm not necessarily ready to go in position to make plays happen or counterinitiate when i think something's about to pop off. not sure if im doing the right thing or not.
@xtranormalCARTOONS88 Жыл бұрын
I look at the line up and ask myself "can my hero carry this game" not you, your hero If I'm playing axe, and I'm vs a PA carry, or a sniper midlane etc, I know if my teams feeding, if I just get my items and scale with the game, my hero is good enough to solo, with blade mail I can kill them any time I want, but if I fall behind, we lose the game, so I'd choose to play my own game and stay bot But if I'm playing a hero where my hero can't solo the game, let's say I'm playing magnus, I have a anti mage carry, and theirs a lot of int heros on the enemy team, but my AM has had a bad lane and is behind, it's better for the team for me to sacrifice my game to make his better, so I'll play with my team or body guard for the anti mage In short, are you the most important hero on the team, if yes, play for your own game, the carry / mid is not always the most important player, it's the win condition, if axe gets a call on a pa, the pa is dead, so you are the win condition
@ZQuixotix Жыл бұрын
I think what xtranormal said is pretty good. If you're unsure, I tend to default towards playing with the team. I think in pubs it's better to play cohesively as a team rather than doing separate things. Plus, maybe this play is bad, but if I play with them now, maybe they'll listen to me for a better play later. However, if you truly know something is wrong and will lead to losing, then I would try to do what you believe in.

This happens to me all the time as an offlaner. I'm the strongest hero on the map, dumpstered their HC, and the supports and midlaner never come to help me take over the jungle, ward, and just stay on our side of the jungle, then when the team gets wise they smoke to kill me and then proceed to flame me but are never there backing me up. When I tell them to play around me they say "it's 4 against one so who's wrong" Depending on the game we sometimes still win but the game extends from a 30-40 min game to a 40-60 min game. (I haven't watched this whole video, just the beginning where he's talking about the first 10-20 min of the game) I typically mute the whole team when this happens and then just do my best.

In games where you feel like you are owning and unstoppable it always feels better to have your teammates play around you rather than them begging you to go to them. It doesn't feel good to use a TP to go to some questionable fight, and it certainly doesn't feel good to TP into your carry's lane, share farm and relieve pressure on the enemy. Axe probably got ultra tilted later in the game because he was owning but felt like he had no support throughout the game.

Funny I took a break from Dota to play other competitive games (Valo, etc) and actually improved a lot more once I came back because of these exact same principles. Sometimes putting yourself in new environments opens up your mind to learning concepts that you can later re-apply to Dota. Its harder to learn when you've been doing the same thing in the same environment for too long.

Their hero pool is squishy af ( drow, sniper, shaman, vengeful) Only bristleback is tough but you just leave him last. I was a monster at 10 min. Never got a single support to follow me for any ganks. We had a silencer that could have silenced when I initiate but he never did. We lost the game. Let the massive power spike slowly melts away by letting drow and sniper free farm. Horrible team communication.

Wanted to leave you a game I felt was truly SO winnable, until it wasn't. We dominated two lanes, top and mid, then our team fell apart in the mid game. I was the Hoodwink, average mmr around 4k or so. Our pos 1 Void opened the game telling us how stoned he was, and after the midgame i absolutely believe him. As a 4 player I struggle with when to rotate to the safelane to help, as opposed to when I should just continue to shut down the opponents pos 1. Considering I had a Doom that felt like he would be able to carry us, so I opted to hunt the enemy TB. After a series of awful mid game clashes, chain feeding, and a few pos 5 marci solo kills on our void, we managed to waste away what felt like a sizable lead and eventually got run down by the enemy. With her gold from killing our void, their pos 5 marci ended up being twice the carry of anyone on our team, especially since we refused to kite her. Where did it all go wrong? What can I do as a pos 4 player when my team won't listen to my calls in the mid game to play around and protect our vision? Sometimes as a support player im stuck between playing suboptimally with my team, versus playing optimally but being at the mercy of my core's poor decisions. I appreciate your hard work, and hope to get my game picked apart so I can stop being miserable in ancient, and finally be miserable in divine/immortal. Match ID: 7113239144

This is what always happens to me when I'm an offlaner. I win the lane, I can take two heroes alone and I'm fully controlling the enemy hc. Yet for some reason both supps and the mid go to the dead lane for 15min to skirmish with the enemy supports, instead of playing around me to shift the attention away from my hc. Then I finally figure that no one is coming to me and join them, but then the enemy hc gets free farm, and full build and kills everyone and we lose the game. Then all four proceed to bash me as to "why I am in the wrong part of the map, and not playing with the team" LOL

This is still the same problem in Legend - Ancient. Everyone want to fight with the carry at the 7-15 min. They think it's the right play to leave the 5-0 offlane when they should be playing behind him on the enemy jungle and not on their own safe lane.
