You got that right. The handle is so narrow that it would be hard to keep your finger off the lock bar when opening it.

When I first tuned into this channel, you guys annoyed the shit out of me. Giggling and secondary commentary was too much. I then realized it was me. You guys are nerds like me. But, more importantly, you are best friends, that share a common interest. It is one of the most endearing things I have seen in a long time. Certainly unique in the knife community. Proud follower and love the content. You guys make me smile and I aspire to have this level of love, passion and fun with my partner in life. Cheers and thank you for the humbling perspective.

I’ve been into this knife thing a long time and have a lot of knives. Not a flipper fan but still have 7-8 including a few ZT’s. Best way to break in a knife is to use it. After cutting up a bunch of cardboard etc, a tight knife can be like night and day.

I got a little award money from work, so I’m rewarding myself with this ZT 0707. It’s my first USA-made high-end production knife, and I’m not disappointed. It’s a little stiff due to the small flipper, but once it gets going flies open with a satisfying thwack (technical term). I’m not concerned with how it closes, so lack of drop-shut doesn’t bother me. What makes me happy is the attention to detail that they can afford for a $248 knife. - Top end super steel (20CV) - Full flat ground blade with relief swedge - Matte but not stonewashed blade finish - 3D machined titanium & carbon fiber frame - Custom pivot screw with ball bearings - Steel lock bar insert doubling as overtravel stop - Steel insert with TDS carved into the CF frame - Serrated and hollowed flipper tab - Custom deep carry pocket clip with a unique retention system - Custom barrel spacers - Very slim and light despite 3.5” blade - Frame hole by the pivot as a custom touch In short, it’s a pocket knife that any serious knife enthusiast can respect.

I picked up a 0707 and I like it a lot. I don't even mind that it doesn't close on its own, I'd rather that I deliberately shut the blade instead of having it come down on my fingers (as it's a slim knife with less handle surface area). I much prefer the TDS advantage where I can hold down anywhere on the locking surface and still flick the knife open.

Definitely designed to prevent death lock from pressure on the lock bar while opening the blade. You may lose the smooth drop shut retraction, but that’s just the trade off you get.

I don't know if you guys ever got one but Kershaw first released a knife with TDS a while back. Called the Deadline, designed by Matt Diskin. It's really a great knife, I'd say my favorite of the recent Chinese made models. It does seem like a better quality knife than most of their Chinese knives. In fact if they upgraded the steel they would have no problem fitting it in with their US made line. I bought one when they first came out, and then later I think it was last year, they went on clearance and I got another one for like 20 bucks. I think some sellers still have some in stock, but Kershaw said they are discontinued for 2020. Would be interesting to see how the TDS from the Kershaw Deadline compares functionally to this ZT model. Keep up the great videos

I remember, I was so hyped about this knife thinking ZT was bringing back the 0777 (obviously modified). I was so let down when I saw what it was. I'm still kind of let down because, in all honesty, the Bareknuckle is what this knife should have been. Oh well, I have the sprint CF/M390 Bareknuckle, which is as close to a 777 as I'll ever get, so I'm happy. I was so disappointed with the 0707, that I bought a Shaman. It was an excellent choice.

That pivot collar made me think it had the CRKT Takedown (tm) system on it or something. I like the concept of a tuned detent, but we'll have to see how it works in execution. I want to check out one of those Tumblers one of these days too. I like the general design, but that handle looks less than comfortable. "It just hhhhwhips right out." -- Frankie and Stewie Griffin.

Based on the discretion of the 0707 clip, I would prefer it, especially for carrying in the office. Sometimes discretion is prioritized over the convenience of a quick grab.

On my long, slender knives, I've found that most of the "stickiness" has to do with finger placement (pressure on the lock bar).
@7Steels
@7Steels 3 жыл бұрын
Since I am left handed and have stated before that we leftys have an issue opening framelock knives. When I open a framelock, I put my thumb right on top of the lockbar and this of course henders the opening of the knife. This is the reason that I prefer linerlock knives. Plus the fact that linerlocks look good on both sides. ZT is probably trying to mitigate the issue with the lockbar by having the 2 ball system. I commend them for doing it. For me if it creates a slow "non smooth" closing problem...so what. I'm more intrested in the opening of a knife than how it closes.

Bought 2 for myself and gift for my best friend. We both love the knife. Nay sayers need to get a life. I have a habit of putting pressure on the lock bar of frame locks when deploying the blade with a flipper. This makes it difficult to impossible to deploy the blade. ZT’s tuned detent system solves this problem! Works great every time! In use, I’ve never closed a knife using gravity. Pushing the blade closed with my forefinger is no biggie. Thus I know by feel, without a need to check visually, that the knife is positively closed before pocketing. Smooth consistent deployment and positive lock up is far more important for me. BTW I’m a collector with hundreds, if not over a thousand, knives. Ranging from the tiniest Spyderco to swords longer than I am tall. Prices range from sub-$20 to well over $1,000+ of both manufactured and custom blades. Just saying that I have considerable experience handling knives for at least 60 years. Not just handling but actually working with knives as tools.

The problem I have, and I’ve own it since it came out, is that it’s a “scary” looking gentleman’s folder, in that it’s a long and aggressive looking blade for the office. And this is designed to be a more gentleman’s knife. Problem is that it’s a longer and aggressive looking blade, so it’s not the best for office carry. So what’s the point? If you’re going to carry an aggressive looking 3.5 inch blade, there are better options.

I love the knife but hate the double Detent stuff close action and especially for $248.00 thats the only reason I haven’t gotten one. The drop shut or hydraulic close is one of my favorite things about knifes and knifes with great action almost drop shut ZT essentially ruined the action on this knife by doing that stupid attachment. They should make a version without it and I’ll bet it would sell better. IMHO

This is where our opinions really differ. Just me but I think the whole break in period is BS. I tell people in my FB edc groups to tear apart their knives immediately and clean it out, relube and readjust it to where theres no play and its centered. 9 times outa 10, you'll improve the action 3x over if not better when you dissassemble and reassemble it. Big production knife companies don't always adjust the pivots optimally and dont use the best lubricants out there. Throw some 10wt nano oil or KPL in there and readjust that pivot and you'll be suprised on the amount of improvement. Another reason I say to do this is depending on how old the model is, it can sit on retailers shelves for weeks,months or even a year or more and that pivot oil will be gummed up beyond measure. I have the 0308 and I took it apart within 5 min of opening it and now its norseman level dropshutty, no wrist at all. Ive never experience later issues from cleaning and readjusting my knives immediately our of the box.
