Ok people, use your common sense. A 'budget' smartphone in comparison to the Iphone 7's and Galaxy S7's /Edge's (Premium smart phones). Off contract paid in full are roughly $700-$900. So yes, these are "budget" smartphones. For people who are into technology, questioning how this is not a budget, I question your logic.

The Oneplus 3 has the better camera, better OS, and is the faster phone(wins all speed tests and benchmarks) The Axon 7 has the better screen, speakers, and comes with microsd slot. Battery life seems to be equal as some reviews give it to the Axon and others give it to the OP3. The OP3 has the fastest charge time with Dash charge, so that might be something to consider. You get 0 to 63% in 30 minutes. Can't go wrong with either phone.

For me, what broke the OP3 as an option was that it only comes in 64GB with no expandable storage. I'm currently rocking the OP1 with 64GB and I struggle with storage. Admittedly I'm not your average user, having a ton of apps and locally stored content, but that doesn't change the fact that the OP3 is to small for me. If OnePlus rolls out a 128GB model in the next couple of months I'll bite, but until then it looks like the Axon 7 is at the top of my short list, as it at least has expandable storage to mitigate the 64GB internals. That or the next Nexus, if Google manages to impress me somehow.

Look, Marques, I like your content, I respect your opinions, but $400 is not really "budget"... The OnePlus 3 is not budget, and this ZTE is not budget. For me, under $250 is budget, $250-$450 is midrange, and above $450 is high-end, but let's just simplify things and say under $300 is budget... Don't get me wrong, the price for the specs is beyond great, and yeah, a phone with the current top chipset, current most RAM you actually need, and current highest resolution they actually use should never be cheap, but the $400 price just makes it "great value", not "budget". Just my 2 cents tho
@dgeri988 жыл бұрын
Addition: Why do you care about a crappy lockscreen? It has a fingerprint reader and as far as I could tell no ambient display. On my Nexus 6P I only see the lockscreen when ambient display shows me the notifications. Other than that, with a fingerprint reader, you pretty much never see the lockscreen.
@joshday19978 жыл бұрын
It's $400 *unlocked*. If you're fine with signing a contract, it'll be a lot less. And most unlocked phones are in the $800 range. They get cheaper when you sign a contract too. Interesting how that works.
@TheImprintsIllusion7 жыл бұрын
Joshua Day contracts actually make them more expensive. installment billing is what makes it "cheaper" (and even then, not completely). with contracts you're still paying for the phone even after you paid it off, whereas with installment billing once you paid it off it's taken off your monthly bill. you're still gonna end up paying the phones price either way, but contracts are more expensive
@comicog36 жыл бұрын
@@dgeri98I guess it's budget compared to the thousand dollar flagships, but I agree on some level. I certainly can't justify spending computer money on a phone, but I also have a hard time spending $400 on one.
Great review. I've had the Axon 7 for a year now and I love it. Great for the price. Prices with Samsung and iPhone are outrageous these days so it made sense to go with this phone. Not cheap, but worth the $400 price tag. Also it comes with 2 year warranty with the purchase in case the screen cracks or issues come up.

kind of funny how we are all biased when it comes to our reviews and beliefs and brand loyalty. I agree the One ➕ Three is a pretty amazing flagship killer, but I have the opposite opinion on the oneplus being better than the Axon 7. so your five pillars; Build Quality; The 7 is designed by Dreamworld, designer of vehicles known for their spectacular looks. And while the back may look like an iPhone, the front looks original (something that I favor almost more than anything else). it feels more natural in the hand than the one ➕ three (heard it is sharp on the sides to the point of painfulness) and the finger print sensor is placed perfectly. much better than the annoying thumb print readers. I find it funny how some reviewers rank the Axon7 as the quickest reader, others compare it to the nexus 6p (which uses the same fingerprint card technology). The sound also "raises" the BAR as its the first US phone featuring two audio chips... ever. not to mention it's Dolby Atmos technology. Display; So it's a quad HD screen, and according to your reviews of the 7vs3 the screen on the 7 is decent, yet you praise the 1080P as not being noticeable Vs a galaxy s7. So why the almost negative neutral display comment for the Axon7 yet praise for the less quality 1080p while brushing off VR technology... and then continue to talk about the amazing 6 GB of RAM that... which will never get to be used to its full potential with VR technology and as you said, you never go above 4gbs..You also fail to highlight being able not to store tons of media on the one➕. Yet the Axon 7 supports the brand new micro SD technology. Battery; I will take my Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 over a proprietary charging technology you will have to wait weeks to get your travel charger sent to you from OnePlus. That dashcharge won't quickcharge with other Usb c adaptors...so I'll take a 70% quickcharge over dashcharge. the only thing that is obvious not opinion is the camera is streets ahead on the plus. hopefully software updates will help the axon in low-light in the future. software; oxygen OS is great, however my - favor is far from finicky. Mi Voice has some revolutionary options that should be adapted by all the flagships by next gen. the buttons can be annoying at night however Mi-pop is actually pretty amazing for integrated shortcut options and can be Legitimatly used as a secondary nav panel. and the buttons being placed so closely together is not a quirk at all. It was replaced by on screen buttons to be so close together so while viewing in landscape mode the user doesn't constantly hit the back button by accident. also, I much prefer the lock bell for notifications. if I want to view notifications quickly I'll just use the fingerprint sensor to unlock to phone before the screen even turns on. I think ZTE may have did this purposely to show off the beautiful 2k random and scrollable wallpapers and future updates may allow for you to view pre-selected photos to view randomly in the lock screen and to scroll through them to show off your selected photos/files

Garett yes, and yes. AXON 7 is the flagship to have for 4 bills. ALOT of OP3T loyalists will never admit there's a successor.
@StinkyDroid8 жыл бұрын
David Cole i know it's sad that many people get stuck with the brand that made them fall in love. The 1+3 is still a magnificent device so we should never forget that or the fact it has helped flagship killers penetrate the US market. Next year it may be you and I that can't admit the Honor 9 or xoimi mi is the better phone than the Axon 8 (if they do indeed end up being superior similar to how the Axon is to 1+). However I think we are critical thinkers as I have already had a hard time ranking the Honor vs the Axon this generation (although I eventually chose to sell my Honor and not my Axon due to the same reasons I listed above). I'm a loyal person, but to other people and organizations, not specific companies necessarily. I appreciate the flagship class customer service ZTE provides us (the warranty alone even outclasses apple care+), but it wouldn't be enough for me to be a "fanboy" next year.
@RoninGaijin8 жыл бұрын
I have no problem admitting the truth, if the OP3T was better I would've kept it. It's not. AXON 7 is close to being the very best. Better display, audio, video, daytime photo, 2 year warranty, expandable storage, better battery life, fastest Quad HD phone... This is why I'm so adamant about it. Anyone who isn't bias would clearly and easily see which one is better. No knock on the OP3T, it's a great phone for what it is, awesome price too, but the Axon 7 is another level.

Only using the term "budget" is vague. There are 'budget' low-end phones, 'budget' mid-range phones, and 'budget' high-end/flagship phones. The Axon 7 would be a 'budget' high-end flagship phone, meaning you get the latest and greatest specs for half the money of its contenders. An example of a 'budget' mid-range phone would be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.

Don't get why people bitch about another phone barely beating it in speed tests? Do a lot of people really multi task cause I don't and those few seconds of speed doesn't bother me. I'm looking for dual front facing speakers and a decent camera on a phone. Thin this would be the one unless someone could steer me in another direction for something similar.

I've had this phone for over two years now and it's still doing great. It's still snappy, nothing loads any slower than it use to. It still plays 1440p videos at 60 fps no problem and I'm just barely starting to notice battery degradation. Right now my battery is at five percent and has lasted two days and four hours with three and a half hours of screen on time.

since more and more people cam afford $500-700 smartphone. I literally saw iPhone 6s and galaxy 6-7 edge everywhere I go so it's not that big of a deal anymore. Oh, and this price is justified for the spec. cheaper product = bad craftsmanship = wasting your money in the end.

This might be the best phone ever made. I'm super sad we won't see another phone like this due to companies forcing bezel-less designs, thus no front facing speakers, and no aux even though they can easily make space for it. I'm still searching for a phone that makes me as excited as this one did.
@awdrifter33948 жыл бұрын
I bought this phone and I'm kinda regretting it. This phone has some very weird security, where even after rooting it, certain apps that requires root permission still won't run (AdAway and App Ops for example). On the XDA sub forums the threads are very disorganized and it just doesn't have the level of support that Samsung and OnePlus has. If you're not a power user this is the phone for you, but if you are, I would suggest avoiding it and get the OnePlus 3T (if you're on a budget) or Samsung S7 instead.

The s7 (edge) are better than the Axon in every possible way (except for speaker quality, but the s7 (edge) is louder). The s7 Edge has literally a little more than double the Axon' batterylife. It has an dislay that is more than 2x brighter. It has the best camera in a smartphone by a longshot. Much better ergonomics. Waterproof, dustproof, overload of accesories, overload of cases and what not. The convienece of having the best service (In Europe they have!). But the phone also costs 200 euro more which makes it an expensive phone!

I love my Axon 7 and I can't wait to see what comes next. Dolby Atmos works great on my high end headphones, front facing speakers are awesome, this DAC is flawless, QHD screen is great and the camera has gotten better since the 7.1.1 update too. When I'm out in public watching 2K video on this phone there's always someone looking over my shoulder watching it with me. They ask me what kind of phone I have but when I tell them most never heard of this phone. Some show me what phone they're using and it's always those expensive, high-end phones. I show them what this phone has to offer then say how much I paid for it and the look I see on they're face afterwards is priceless. They just realized how much of a fool they were for spending that much money on they're phones when this Axon 7 is that good. I love when this phone out performs those expensive fools. And also I do enjoy seeing the red bell on the lock screen whenever I get a notification or when playing music it's different. But now it's pretty darn hard to find this model of the Axon 7 in stores but the smaller model is available. For those of you who still haven't decided yet about getting this model it very well maybe to late. The newer version will be out by the end of 2017 and I strongly suggest you buy that one.

Prime example of why HTC'S design was STOLEN by Apple! The Axon 7 has a similar design of a iphone? Are you freaking serious? This device is the EXACT same design that ONLY HTC created. Every other manufacturer out there stole the greatest design for a smartphone one way or another from HTC.. Apple did it first and why HTC didn't sue them and everyone else is beyond me. Apple sued everyone for copying there design. This is not me being a fanboy, my daily driver is a Note5. This is me telling the FACTS. Makes me sick when they act as if this is a iphone design

This is the first phone I've even considered to replace a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. It has the key features such as dual speakers, removable SD, great display. It's not waterproof though. After having that I don't think I can live without it. It's so nice not worrying about it, such as using it outside in a light rain, taking pictures of rivers and lakes, dropping it in the snow while skiing, or simply cleaning the phone. The camera seems at least comparable. What I realized though, is that I always go for phones (and devices in general) that do something new. HTC Evo 3D had the 3D display and camera (I still use it from time to time). HTC M7 had Boomsound and an Ultrapixel Camera (which, at the time, looked amazing). Z5 Premium had 4K display (and no, its not overrated - the pixels are very tiny and in a zig zag pattern, it makes everything look better especially VR). The ZTE is just lacking a wow factor. And, so you don't think I'm a fanboy, I think the new Sony and HTC phones have the same issue.

+Justin Jung moto x pure was the best budget phone last yr. It hasn't slowed down, it's front firing speakers still the best unless someone tested these on the axon 7 against them. It has bad battery life and a decent camera(not great but it's not terrible ) also its $300 and sometimes been cheaper in sales. I would get this phone over the op3. Software isn't everything, if it is then get a nexus.
