The part at 5:01 is so damn exciting! There is nothing more satisfying than watching handcrafted vehicle animation, that's one of the things I miss most of the past decades.
In Chicago, there was a club that would play House music and techno relentlessly. there were TV screens all around this huge dome that would have videos like this one on a loop. I miss the 90s.

This is a very special skill that only few people can master. western animators can't even deal with mecanical animation so they use cgi instead of hard working. Japanese animators are top level !!!
@AnotherSakuga3 жыл бұрын
I strongly agree, but currently I don't think that many Japanese animators are trained to handle well-done mechanical animation like veteran animators do. I suppose it is a product of the training being very different from how it was before

Cgi IS hard work. Its not a cheat. And its a bit crass to praise terrible conditions terrible pay and terrible working hours which were and are a mainstay in many Japanese animation (tho it's a problem in western and korean ones too) studios as hard work

@DiggoryEuthymius Жыл бұрын
@@bm001 It still proves the point of being hard work. Also, You should be more specific what do You mean by CG anime - 3D works or everything (digital drawings and 3D)? If it's the first, I think Studio Orange did good job with modelling, especially with Houseki no Kuni adaptation. Other thant that, Uchuu Senkan Yamato remakes have nice battle scenes, but... As You mentioned before, 3D is cheap. If they tried to pull this scenes with hand drawn, it would take much more resources (including time) to finish it. Madhouse almost went bankrupt because of how long it took them to work on Redline. So yeah, it's kind of obvious for using CG (which also become more popular in western animation), since only big studios can afford doing higher quality animation.

where the hell do you even find it in this quality? I remember I watched it from a VHS rip or sth so I couldn't believe my eyes while watching this video, is there a blu-ray rerelease nowadays?
Animating vehicles by hand is not easy at all, so all these animators really have very good training and skill. Some clarifications: * I don't like the CGI, so all the clips are only of vehicles made in 2D animation, without exception. * I really love the 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT-500 from Gunsmith Cats OVA #02. * Yoshida's cut at 03:16 is my favorite vehicle animation and I consider it perfect in every way. * The vehicles in the video are exclusively terrestrial, later I will make one of flying vehicles. * To be honest I wanted to use a rock song for this but I couldn't find one long enough to fit many clips, so I opted for Redline's Yellow Line.

The guy behind Redline wouldn't release the movie until he was 100% happy with it...I believe it took almost a decade and nearly bankrupted the studio. The movie's plot is so-so but the visuals are at 110% the whole way through

Well, Masao Maruyama gave Takeshi Koike the opportunity to do whatever he wanted with the film, which is why it took 7 years (4 pre-production and 3 production). Concise details about Redline's production are hard to find, but Koike once mentioned that fewer than 20 people worked on the entire film (I imagine Madhouse interns) and it's well known that Koike did extensive corrections as Animation Supervisor, so that's why his style is the one that stands out the most in the entire feature film. I also want to mention that in the behind the scenes you can see that figures of the vehicles and robots were produced, which the animators took as a reference as well as the mechanical sheets to be able to carry out the meticulous and demanding animation of the film. Redline is a unique piece of art and it's very unlikely that something like that will be repeated.

Thanks! I'm glad the video generated positive reactions. It was my first video on a specific topic and I made it mainly because a guy commented that it would be great if I made a video about vehicles. In retrospect there are many things I would change to add other amazing sequences that I didn't know about at the time, but I will most likely make a continuation of this video in the future:)

The magic of 2D animation is the imperfection of the animators, as they cannot maintain perfect consistency and each has their own way of animating and generating their own distinction (Their own interpretation of design sheets, background animation, timing and application of effects)

All the names of the series are in the description, I have also added the option of subtitles in English and Japanese with the names of all the series. You can go back or forward frame by frame Frame Advance: Press the " . " Key / Rewind frame: Press the " , " key Remember, animation is not made to pause as animation is made up of the entire sequence of drawings that create the illusion of movement, so there is no point in evaluating the "quality" of animation based on an individual drawing. Even so, I highlight the option to move forward and back frame because it is always interesting to see the animator's work in each particular drawing, in addition to helping a lot to understand how his work works.

When I made the video I did not know Venus Wars, now I have seen it and there is a vehicle sequence made by the animator Manabu Oohashi that seems to me to be of a very high level of quality It makes me consider making a new version of a vehicle animation video, but the first thing for me is to find a song suitable in length and that conveys what I want to represent (in this video it was the adrenaline feeling of Redline)

It's strange that you didn't include Castle Of Cagliostro, given how iconic its chase scene is.
@AnotherSakuga Жыл бұрын
When I made this video I had the mentality of not using extremely well-known sequences, mainly because I thought it would be repetitive for viewers. Currently I consider that this was a mistake since I omitted many incredible works and therefore, many new people did not have their approach to those sequences Cagliostro in general is something that I want to consider a lot for my next videos (focus on Telecom animators), since historically it is a very important film due to the approach of transferring Disney's full animation to Japanese animation, although at this moment it is not clear to me if the American animators trained to the majority of Telecom animators before or after this movie

Hand-drawn mechanical animation was more prominent in past decades because there was no other way to do it, but when it comes to animation in general, the bar is still very high.
