We need to not lose sight of the fact that zuck and others ceos are talking to shareholders, it does not need to be true or even make any sense.

In a stretch you could argue that an ai controlled and supervised by a mid level engineer could do the work of two mid level engineers. But that's about it currently. You need to know what mistakes AI could do, how to find them and how to fix them.

If this is a case, we don't need to work for them. That means small teams could have mid level developers working with them. What is Zuck smoking. At the best it will be the end of these giant tech corporations.

You'd be surprised how many mid-level engineers, claiming 5 years of experience in software engineering, are incapable of writing a simple class Person with a name and age, in any language. I'm saying this from experience interviewing hundreds of them in the past few years for jobs with a 30,000+ employees corporation.

It wont happen this year but by the end of this decade (5 years from now) the demand for software engineers will have plummeted.

Highly doubt. It will grow because ai is not a replacement, it's a tool. And historically, everytime it get easier to program, jobs are created.

AI may not be able to build an entire system, but every engineer uses it to code now. Simply dismantle the big problem into smaller problems, and with good prompting, ChatGPT can basically do it all. As an engineer, I use it all the time. It's mindboggling how much time we save because of it. Mark Zuckerberg is right about it. AI will indeed write mid-level engineering code very soon. Actually, it already does. You should have stuck with the fact you're nobody and Zuckerberg having something to lose is a baseless argument. If you can't get AI to save you enormous amounts of time, you simply suck at prompting.

If it's already in the process of writing mid-level engineering code, then what should a person,who's trying to get their foot in the door in IT, do? Should I just find a new career path?
@davidgervais597410 күн бұрын
@@ZidaneDaMan10 I wouldn't say that. The demand for coding will increase in time, and for now, AI is capable of writing code, but not capable of understanding the big picture. You use AI to create the pieces of a puzzle, but you use brain to assemble the puzzle. Most companies currently employing lots of coders will have their number of coders reduced eventually, because 1 coder + AI is better than 2 coders already. Essentially, that means there should be less coding jobs, however, more and more companies will start requiring code, which means more coding jobs. Yada yada yada there will always be a place for you, and now your job is a lot more fun because you don't have to read through manuals and forums to find the thing you're looking for, because you got a digital Hermione Granger at the tip of your fingers.
