I did that when I was in my 2nd year of secondary school. I discovered myself and explored it. I asked myself all the questions you are saying and beyond. I met with the people who do what I am prefering. I kept solving that problem for two years and giving attention to my day-to-day behaviours. What matters is that I wrote and when I attended at the university, I tried to doubt myslef, but reviewed my past writings and their analysis. So, write when you're exploring yourself. Because your brain can not hold what you like! It may give you more choices!

Actually I graduated 2015 my secondary education and then started my Bachelor degree faculty of medicine and surgery but I really enjoyed for that period and i am aware there’s no opportunity for Work, I graduated 2021 for My University….. Done my F4 exam back in 2017 had a chance to work and study a college at the same time. I know its hard to pursue them both but i did manage to Finish my Diploma Mid 2020. Till that day i never even collected my Certificate Cz i knew it won't help me find a Job or even pursue my Education further. At times you need someone to talk and consult about life after High school but we all undergone some pushback in life. I agree that someone needs to have a break(Not a year) be4 joining a college or University to decide what suits him/her. I applaude you for bringing up this topic sis.👏🏽 It's a great discussion to have with yourself, your children or friends. Personally, I love talking/working toward progress. I agree with you in terms of starting with your interest and you are good at. I disagree with you in taking a year off. The question is what are you going to do that year?. If you start working, you will get used to the pay check and will be hard for you to go back to school fulltime. However, if you have the resources to expolore and discover your interest then that is another case. We know most of us does not have that luxury or at least my generation didn't. 😋 Even after all these steps that doesn't necessarily mean you end up choosing the right field/career path. If you choose the wrong field there is always an option for career change...change of heart. 😉 I am speaking out of personal experience. May the force of Almighty Allah be with you. You have no idea how i felt when i heard your story because it is so close to mine. i am also from somalia and i am still currently studying public health. i graduated 2020 when i was 17 and wanted to major in medicine but seeing how every uni here is too expensive i decided to enroll in the government uni and settle for the cheapest degree i can find which was PH. i am still regretting my decision and hoping i can atleast move abroad soon so i can work and study the major i wanted if its not too late for me. i am 18 but i feel like i have wastd my life thinking about everyone but my own selve and i hate myself for that.

The same thing happened to my son. He chose Biomedicine and then changed his mind 2 years into the course. He wanted to do Neuroscience instead. I was so angry and disappointed in him. I know sometimes parents can put so much pressure on their children. After so much pain and tears, I calmed down and respected his decision. He started from scratch and is now doing his Masters in Neuroscience. He finds it very interesting and wants to go as far as PhD level, In shaa Allah. Therefore, choose wisely and carefully and do not do it for anyone else but yourself as you are the ONLY one who knows what you are passionate about. Good luck to all and work hard and make your parents proud.
