So, are the kick and hihat triggers also separately assigned...meaning that you could use a total of 6 sounds, if you don't want to use the hihat pedal for the hihat? I could see setting up a closed hihat sound on one pad, then using the hihat pedal and kick pedal both for kick to get a double bass setup going. Then, you could have a snare and ride and crash, or snare, crash, tom.

Hello! Thank you very much for a great video! One question you. When I connect my KICK pedal, I can assign to it any sound - for example KICK, or SNARE, or SNAP etc. But when I connect my Hi-Hat Pedal, I am not able to change the sound of Hi-Hat pedal; it only sounds as Hi-Hat. I thought you get a great job! I hope you reconsider doing more videos! Yes it’s a shame it doesn’t do samples, it’s MIDI! It will play with Blackbox! I decided to go with the music 1010 Razmataz thru its own mixer. I would like to point out many consider the YamaD75 and the KAT Multipad but toys! Well the both hame MIDI, which makes them whatever yo want to do possible. For the prices I added 12 instruments to my Kat! The Yamaha Multipad12 is pro gear period. Everything else is a controller both through Kontact, the Multipad12, GarageBand, any DAW. That makes them pro gear! My system kicks ass!Peace brother!

One other question? - I have an old Boss br1600 recorder. If you know what I am talking about, do you know if I will be able to use the KAT midi and use the butt-load of drums the BR already has built into it? Or would I just be going in and recording the KATs sounds to selected tracks? Man any help you may provide will be greatly appreciated! Heck I am even going to sub if you take the time to push me in the right direction! XD Again thumbs up video!
@zumazmusic4 жыл бұрын
My educated guess says yes, you can use the MIDI functions, however, let me look into it.
@zumazmusic4 жыл бұрын
From an SOS article the answer is a YES: Drum and bass patterns can be created by real-time recording, either from an attached MIDI keyboard or using the BR1600CD's track buttons. You can choose to have your recording quantised as you play it in, but there is no way to undo this, or to quantise a Pattern that's already been recorded.

I was looking at a cheap one of these with the USB port broken. Could I still connect this to Ableton and use it in the same way you are to trigger samples via the Midi Out jack on the back? I get confused over old In/Out ports.
@zumazmusic3 жыл бұрын
First off, I believe any decent computer repair guy could repair that USB port quite easily. Second, as long as your audio interface has a MIDI IN port, or you are using some sort of MIDI interface, it should be just fine. 😎🤘
@oldowl42903 жыл бұрын
@@zumazmusic I assume a Midi-to-USB cable might work as well. I know these are only $120 but right now but figured if I could save $60 it's probably worth it and just use the midi port. (and as you said, maybe resolder it).
@zumazmusic3 жыл бұрын
@@oldowl4290 You have the right idea. I only recently started using MIDI devices over USB. These things work just fine with a straight MIDI connection, however, many of the newer audio interfaces no longer have native MIDI ports. Hence, one big reason why midi over USB is becoming so popular.
@oldowl42903 жыл бұрын
@@zumazmusic Yeah, a USB to Midi cable is ~$15 so if it works it works I guess. I would of course prefer straight to USB. My main thoughts about the old style cables is they seem to physically connect more secure than USB. I wish USB had some sort of pressable thumb lock. I always feel like the cables are too loose. And I have to assume others do too which is likely why the ports get broken sometimes.
@zumazmusic3 жыл бұрын
@@oldowl4290 They can definitely be fragile. The new MIDI spec should be out relatively soon. We'll see what connectors they support. It seems like USB is here to stay though.

I'm thinking of buying this but I also thinking of buying the alesis strike pad .. is it worth me buying the Kat?
@zumazmusic3 жыл бұрын
Currently, the KAT is about $120 and the Alesis Strike Multipad is about $700. It wouldn't be fair to compare them. I'd say if your needs are basic, just get the KAT. The KAT has a small amount of built-in sounds you can play and that's pretty much it. It's strength is integrating it, using MIDI, with your recording setup. The Strike is in an entirely different league.
@east--westsounds56813 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back to me I actually have the Kat it's nice and everything (bought it a week ago) but then you are limited to what you can do with it and then I said to myself maybe I'm better off getting the alesis sample pad pro.$315 or the strike pad or the Yamaha DTX 12.. yes I know they both $600-$700.. I was also looking at the handsonic hdp-20... now I'm going crazzzzzzzzzzy!

actually i'm still looking for a good DAW, i just got my KTMP1 a week ago
@zumazmusic6 жыл бұрын
Great! Hope you're having fun with it. There isn't much to the MIDI setup. In Windows the driver is automatically installed. In your DAW, just leave your instrument track to "All" so it is looking for data on all 16 channels. Load in your virtual instrument on your track and play away! You may have to enable the record button to hear audio coming through from your virtual instrument. In the KAT pad itself, you only need to mess with the MIDI channels to change the "notes and/or drums" the pads play. These are not the same channels as the first 16 channels of MIDI in the main setup. Kinda confusing, I know. The channels that control the instrument SOUNDS are actually called TRACKS.

Can u tell me your impression about how sentive is about the velocity??
@zumazmusic5 жыл бұрын
I think I have my pads set on "8" and that feels good to me. I would call that setting "medium". It's not too dynamic nor is it all one level. With MIDI though, it's only part of the puzzle. If you are recording to a DAW, the velocity can do funny things (too low, too high). Anyway, for just jamming I think you could adjust it to your liking quite easily.
@tadmorguy2 жыл бұрын
@@zumazmusic So, when using Midi, can you play low and high volume ? I've checked the same with the Roland Pad and the Midi level ranges between 40- 100, can u do the same here?
@zumazmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@tadmorguy I just hooked up my KAT to MIDI-OX so I could answer your question. The lowest velocity I can register is a 7, to a max of 127. That being said, it's pretty hard to consistently register anything that low. If you have great technique, you might be able to! When I hit a pad with a drumstick, I average a velocity of 70. The new MIDI 2.0 standard will allow for much more dynamics, so that is something to look forward to. Of course, such devices are barely trickling in so we'll have to wait and see how that pans out.
