Zvex: Distortron - On Bass | theoandhispedals

Hi I'm Theo.
I play bass, often poorly. I love effects and started this channel as a way to document what I've owned.

From what I’ve heard in this , I like the gain switch option but I don’t think it does all that well for bass. For me it falls somewhere awkwardly between an deliberate bass suitable pedal or one like a RAT style pedal which just suits it by happy accident and the kind where you say “I’m using this guitar pedal on bass I don’t care “ and just accepting the compromise. This sound like it’s trying to get there but not making it

Yes, I'm still in two minds on how well it holds the lows, I mean it's not the worst low end loss but its EXACTLY like the Rat in that regard. I can totally get how alot of people use it (the Rat) on bass and say it doesn't lose lows (or say, more importantly, that they don't notice the low end loss) but I've always felt it does. I really do like the tone of the Distortron and with something like my Bass VI (which doesn't have a massive amount of low end to start with) I think it would be great. In fairness to Zvex, they never advertised it as a Bass-capable pedal but it's been one I've been curious about for a while. No regrets, and it held its own really well at band practice but yeah it's tuned for guitar and as its inspired by a Marshall JTM, I guess that's to be expected.
