The Zvezda kit is a later production M4A2 76 with the later more steeply angled front hull and larger hull crew hatches. It looks a bit bare without a turret machinegun to give detail. Maybe the spares box would help here. The turret shape is a bit simplified, similar to the PSC 76mm turret. The Battlefront kit captures the complex curves of the T23 turret much more accurately. Nice to see all three side-by-side. Well done.

It's a m4a1 (76)
@spamuraigranatabru11493 жыл бұрын
@@plesmem No, the Soviets only used the M4A2 as it was equipped with an engine they had the fuel for, Diesal. The M4A1 was the original cast Sherman that was improved over time as it was a way for companies capable of casting to help the war effort when most Sherman manufacturing shifted to welded hulls. The tooling was there already so it was a nice big bonus to the war effort.

Over 30 years I've probably bought all of the M4's made by all major manufactures and none of them are exactly the same. Even within the same company over time parts changed in one dimension or another.
@HerbertErpaderp7 жыл бұрын
I suppose that's probably just like the real thing. slight changes occur over time.

Actually it's very visible. If my 15mm collection had not been basically destroyed in my recent move and my digital camera not been stolen by my ex in 2016 when she abandoned the marriage I would line them up and show you.

Look at those tracks! Zvezda must have read a few comments on their super simplified tracks, since now they even included what could be identified as individual track links instead of just a long flat band with some evenly spaced ridges. Thumbs up! Me like. Nice stronk video, as usual!
@ledichang97088 жыл бұрын
Newer SU152, IS-2, King Tiger and ISU-152 reverted to the "single line with ridges design". I think it was just easier to cast those rubber pads on American tanks.

it is in fact actually a m4a3, the m4a2 had the extra armour playing where the ammo rack is, as on the plastic soldiers sherman
@brandonbrockwell49975 жыл бұрын
All early 75mms with dry ammo stowage received the appliqué plates. No 76s ever received them because they were fitted with wet stowage racks. That has no bearing on what base variant it is. The kit is clearly an M4A2 though, a glance at the layout of the engine deck is all it takes to positively ID it.
@firefighter18398 жыл бұрын
The "a2 or a3" in the Shermans designation only refers to the engine type and not to the hull. This is why one has bulged ammo racks and driver/co driver seats are larger.
@kirotheavenger608 жыл бұрын
The hulls were included in the 'A#'s. Such as angle. Engine was just the biggest change. I'm not sure what you mean by bulged ammo racks though, perhaps the applique armour?

Another great video thank I do like these 15mm Zvezda tanks, they are just fun little projects. in the UK a single Battlefront Sherman will cost you £8.00 (although you can get a set of 5 Shermans for £26.00, so £5.20 each), the Zvezda Sherman is £2.99. So I think the quality is reflected in the price. For those playing 15mm on a budget the Zvezda may be a better buy. Al

Excellent review! Im grateful for it as I seem to have chosen the superior Battlefront Shermans for my ww2 army. One of them took out a Tiger from the front in saturday's game, needed 11 on 2d6 :) The other Shermans weren't around to see it though. One can never have too many Shermans. Or sausage.

For a Zvezda kit in this scale it has detailed tracks and they are good for a model in 15mm.

SInce I AM a Shermanologis ( or at least a hobbyist with a unhealthy fascination)... the PSC M4A2 have the wrong hull for a 76mm Sherman (the "long gun" shermans). Zvezda looks good for that, though I can't comment on the size (if I ever get one myself, I'll break out the measuring devices). If you, or anyone else, wants a breakdown of how a Sherman is different from a Sherman, just say so, and I'll provide some. Also: you ALWAYS need more Shermans. Always. Also, also: erm... hi!
@Boerharms_Manta8 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is surprisingly nice! good soviet engineered model of kapitalist tank. it certainly is a lot nicer than the airfix 1/76 sherman I made recently... the tooling is from the 60's and had extreme amounts of flash..
@danmorgan36856 жыл бұрын
I did a little research and it would seem the Shermans in Soviet service didn't consistently have the .50 MG on the roof. They may have not been shipped to the USSR with the AA MGs as the US needed a LOT of those. Their are images showing some kind of heavy machine gun on the roof of Soviet Shermans though. So really you could go either way with it.

I have built four of these little beauties! By the way, I don't think you pushed the front hull in enough, and the glue might have created pressure in the holes; I had almost no fit issues with my builds of this kit. I think the idea here is that the parts fit so snugly together that it takes a huge amount of effort to take them apart. I didn't glue mine, and they're as robust as they were when I completed them a year ago!
@ledichang97088 жыл бұрын
Mine had a large gap on front left. I think what happened was Zvezda did their 3d design and sliced the model apart at very precise perpendicular angles (that should have been inclined), so when the plastic was moulded a little bit too think/thin, it will not fit together perfectly.
@milgeekmedia7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that review, as I was thinking about getting the Zvezda M4 '76', but I think I'll stick to the GF9 (Battlefront?) ones instead. The Zveda seem to be overcomplicated where it should be simple, and simple where it should be more detailed. The one thing I definitely prefer about the GF9/Battlefront version is the one-piece tracks, which have some nice track tread detailing. I also like the optional bits and pieces that come with the GF9/Battlefront Sherman sprues - I guess PSC will also come with some nice extras as they usually do. It doesn't look like one of Zvezda's better models.

PSC sells one piece track upgrades now at 2.5 pounds for five. At 22 pounds for five tanks (box+tracks) their price is still prettycompetitive.

@emilbt75884 жыл бұрын
I just need to getthis out of my system. But the *cough* green Sherman has an inaccurate hull for the specific variant. 76mm tanks never had the hull with the small hatches. All 76mm tanks had large hatch hulls (no bulges for the driver and machine gunner)
