I always delight in just observing how Packer's mind works in such perfectly organized fashion. The combination of such amazing mental organization, clarity of thought, depth of content, giftedness in expressing what is in that mind...all this and much more was the wonderful Christian man, Jim Packer. How utterly thrilled he must be these days, face to Face with his Lord. I wouldn't be surprised if Jesus puts him in charge of the next Great Awakening down here below. He has long been called the "Last Puritan," but he has rendered that false...he has created a whole wave of new ones.

People would rule with human leaders they saw as God, the bible turned people away from worshiping such leaders. The bible also teaches us to test what we hear to see if its true or not not blind acceptance of anything

the slavery in the old testament was indentured servanthood and they had bosses who were under the ten commandments and everything else. The slavery that your thinking of that took place in america would have been punishable by death Biblically to practice. Read The Book Of Genesis to begin with; then Deuteronomy and see for yourself. If you like death and destruction with a little flavoring of enslavement, murder, war and genocidal killing you should love what you find in these scriptures. Old Testament is the best.

Once you understand the basics of God’s attributes you can read the Old Testament and see a “word picture” of what will fall upon all of those that are not in God’s family when they pass from this life. Jeremiah 10 deals with the christmas in its earliest forms not to celebrate it, in the new testament no one celebrated it they did Pentecost instead. the birth of jesus we can tell was not in the winter because luke 2:7-8 points out the shepards were out at night with the sheep, its more jun- sept weather. Easter comes from istar and baal worshipers where we get cannibalism from. Jeremiah 7:18 deals with it. People think Catholics are Christians because someone told them without questioning it

I've not read "Knowing God" but I suspect Packer knows and highlights God's Holiness, this is indeed, like "love" is one of the innate characteristics of God. Knowing this it is amazing to me the Packer gives any consideration to theistic evolution (see bio at Wikipedia, In 2008 Packer wrote an endorsement for a book called Creation or Evolution: Do We Have to Choose? by Denis Alexander.) as God doesn't operate in evil, corrupt, death, random, mutated means to bring about a holy earth, "very good" (Gen. 1:31), that is totally out of character, it cannot be. It's also disappointing that he has acquiesced in regards to ecumenicism, which Piper has done to some degree. In this same realm, he has given credibility to Roman Catholicism with his alliance with them. Had to understand from someone who gets so much else right, but then we have the life of Peter (Luke 22:54-57; Acts 10:14; 2:13-15) We know the J. Edwards position on RCC and I believe that we could say he would be an adamant Creationist, with no room for such lies as "Evolution", which is certainly not good science, which God created, so Packer should listen more carefully to what Edwards has to say that God in creation was glorious, Evolution is anything but "glorious". I suspect that Packer has fallen subject to the common error that all can make when we try to determine the truth of a matter, be it the nature of RCC, evolution, ...when we use man, the fallen world's view as out determiner, so if one gives credence to the case evolutionist make for their case it becomes convincing and believable or at least some to consideration, same with RCC we look around at what mankind accepts and expects and we acquiesce to ecumenicism. Packer needs to take his own advise, "read your Bible, if one does and believes it as it is written, "inerrancy", (of which he signed see Wikipedia: In 1978, he signed the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy,) and God says He alone is "sovereign in this matter", in six days, ex nihilo. Regarding RCC, worship of Mary is idolatry, it's an abomination that salvation is by any work of man, and many other violations of Biblical truth, thus making the RCC a cult, not Christian, not the church and there can be no union with such as them. (if you would like further clarification/enlightenment on the matter of RCC being a false religion see Mike Gendron's ministry: Proclaiming the Gospel) the bottom line is as Packer states, there's not enough "repentance", cry out for mercy from God that you hear God's call to come to His family, to come alive in Christ, then love and obey ALL that He commands.
