Thank you for the video. It is very clear and concise and answers all the questions, even the ones pertaining to its group ride restrictions. I have read quite negative comments on the function of the unit that I now believe relates to it being used facing the wrong way! I think you've got me over the line. Thinking of the 'dumb' model as it is relatively cheap but the cost of adding in a phone bracket would negate most of the savings.

I'm just more impressed that it can turn without messing up the trainer orientation. I have that issue with my Kurt Kinetic riser ring.

I bought one of these and sent it right back. I was under the impression it could be used to steer in all group rides and races on Zwift when in fact its disabled on almost all. Because you usually coast when steering in the real world, on Zwift you need to keep the power on and in my case the front wheel catches my shoe when steering. Its awkward to pair if using more than 2 devices on apple tvs. It slides around on most floors unless you have a grippy mat.

"In my case the front wheel catches my shoe when steering" Thanks for this very important detail. I have the same issue on my road bike and I never realized this could happen with Elite Sterzo. Thanks

@Simone you can adjust the steering sensitivity in Zwift so you don’t have to turn your front wheel so much as to catch your foot.

I'm having the same issue with the front of my shoes hitting the wheel. Honestly I never think about steering or turning when riding a bike outside. I just do it and it happens, and I can't remember how much the wheel actually turns in all but the sharpest (and slowest) of turns, but don't recall this being a problem on the road. I'll try to adjust the sensitivity so it doesn't happen.

I am using Apple TV to connect my Wahoo Kickr V6 and heart rate monitor.. So you are saying I am able to have Sterzo paired with the Companion App solely? If so that's perfect! Because I thought pairing devices had to be paired together using either Apple Tv bluetooth or the Companion App; and cannot use both simultaneously.

Wait, you can't do route selection with it? That's one of the main reasons I'm interested in a steerer.

This is an old comment, but I want to correct that currently, it's possible to choose your routes in intersections with Elite Sterzo Smart.

Just did my first ride with it, was tricky to update firmware but finally got there. I can see my bike/rear axle flexing in the trainer as I steer and the trainer has a tendency to move around on the floor. Should I be concerned for my carbon frame experiencing stress it most likely wasn't designed for? Currently you can't control the sensitivity on a normal road ride either. Will early adopters be rewarded for Zwift's R and D?

Hiya, very thorough walk thru. Thank you. As I'm new, I found that this vid has helped. I have a question however, if I go with the mechanical sterzo, and have it linked to an android, can I still the have my trainer connected to my windows laptop and for both laptop and android be connected via companion app somehow? Hope you get what I'm trying to do here. Wondering if it's possible or if I have to get the smart sterzo. Second question is I saw another KZbinr who commented that mechanical sterzo is limited only to MTB track while smart sterzo can be used on most. Is that correct?

Had mine for about to weeks and really like it but having a nightmare with companion app keep losing the Bluetooth connections. I run ATV and I have running the companion app on a android phone and on my iPad. Running just cadence and Neo and steering on the steering on ATV every thing ok but as soon I run the Neo/cadence , heart rate and steering on the companion app it just keeps dropping out. Could I try running the steering with a Wahoo Tickr 2 and not use the companion app.

I'm posting this 3 years after this video was made and I'm sure there have been changes to the way that Zwift works with the Sterzo Elite since then. But I've done several rides with it so far and while it's nice to be able to steer, it's definitely not all there yet, and may never get there. Most obviously this is not how you steer on the road, because you steer by banking and leaning and the bars follow, as opposed to how you steer in a car. You'd need to have some sort of banking device to mount your trainer on with built-in inclinometer or accelerometer sensors and Zwift would have to be updated to respond to banking, with or without a smart steering device as well. But mostly the way that Zwift handles steering is not very realistic, allowing you to ride into dirt or grass but not slowing you down as would happen in real life, and even partially into other riders which is just weird. Resistance is also too light, and should be adjustable, because on the road linear and rotational inertia resist steering. I am glad that sensitivity is adjustable, which I didn't know, so I'll look for that. I'll probably keep it because I got it on sale for $60 and need some sort of wheel block anyway, it's nice to be able to move the bars a bit, and turning is kind of cool even if it's not quite realistic. And, eventually, most people will have it, putting you at a disadvantage if you don't have it too. But there's still quite a bit of work that needs to be done to make steering more realistic. It would also be nice to have braking, because steering often involves braking unless you want to crash or fly off a mountain.
