Destroying the RTX 4090 in Red Dead Redemption 2 with 8xMSAA and MAX settings!

Crazy how this graphics card can run so well on RDR2 at 4K ultra settings, but in the latest games, you need frame generation at 1080p to get above 60 FPS (Not looking at you, Monster Hunter Wilds). And RDR2 actually looks better than the latest games, it still holds up incredibly.

Fr, though it crazy how you need to turn it down to 1440p to get above 60, where as rdr2 looks better while still getting 2-3x fps. And it not like it's the 4090's fault if you ignore like black myth, monster hunter wilds, bodycam and prob a few others, it still get's like 120-150fps 4k max on 99% of games.

Yes, I'm agree with you and the Ray Tracing that in some games is mandatory and can't be disabled. Is too early for an Ray Tracing standardization , because the budget RTX cards and especially the AMD cards can't run Ray Tracing with 60FPS and above.

The RTX 4090 has 16384 CUDA cores. The RTX 5090 will have 21760 CUDA cores. The RTX 4090 has 5nm architecture. The RTX 5090 will have 3nm architecture. The RTX 4090 has 24 GB RAM. The RTX 5090 will have 32 GB RAM. So i would say the RTX 5090 will have more than double the computing power than the RTX 4090.

​@anonym5160 no the 4090 uses N4 which is a derivative of TSMC 5nm and the 5090 will use 4NP which is also part of the TSMC 5nm family. That's why the die size has gone up from 609mm2 for 4090 to 744mm2 for the 5090. Without a node shrink the die size has to increase and TDP going through the roof. The 5090 will likely run 500w to 550w under normal gaming loads. Another factor is there being more memory chips on the pcb 12 vs 16. Although g7 needs only 1.1v vs 1.3v for g6x so maybe this balances out the extra power the die will use. We will see.

Newer games have better polygons and details which is the reason it gets lower fps than rdr2. Download any new game hellblade 2 , silent hill 2, stalker 2 , and you will know it's textures and polycounts are higher than rdr2. Newer games displacement also looks better when you go prone and look from angle. Rdr2 displacement looks like it's in 30k or 160k triangles and other newer games are in the millions. Don't just deeride rdr2 like it's second coming of Jesus. Sure game has details and world like no other games , but I won't defend its graphics.

With an RTX GPU, I would use DLDSR over MSAA when you have some GPU performance to spare. DLDSR is DLSS but used to run games at higher than native resolution instead of lower like standard DLSS or native resolution like DLAA. With 2.25X DLDSR, it looks way better than even 8X MSAA, the performance cost is signficantly lower and because its an Nvidia Control Panel setting, it can be applied to any game.

Agree, even on 4060, i used 1.78x DLDSR with DLAA combined running at ~70 fps with pretty much everything maxed and it was much much and i mean much clearer that any MSAA on 1080p with around 50% more performance compared to MSAA

Rdr2 may not look as good technical wise as many modern games (its texture quality is quite behind newer games especially) but its smart use of the techniques they had back then really make it still be a very beautiful game. Its lighting, fog, and ambient affects are so well done that they help compensate for areas where it is weaker such as texture, grass, and such.

Honestly I've been pretty content with my 4060ti, I7 14700K 20 core(28cores total), 32gb DDR5, and 2 TB of memory.. It runs about anything I would want to play and with decent enough settings. I just can't see the extra $1,000+ value to upgrade to something like this right now. If anything I would probably just go up to the 4080 Super but I really don't see the need to even do that. This was my very first gaming PC and I got it brand new custom built for $1,300 but maybe once I've been playing for a while I will eventually feel the need to upgrade.....for now I'm loving this setup...

I have fun with those 8K experiments and any engine that doesn't crash and burn is a win in my eyes. It's an indication of what we can expect from a 5090 too. 8K 8XMSAA will be available with 32GB DDR7 And can confirm. My monitor is 1440 and 4K with AMD virtual super resolution is not the same as 1440. I can't really use it for playing games but for KZbin it adds a level of crisp detail.

Is it just me, or does the game have a lot worse texture streaming / pop-in now than it did before? I recently started playing again (also on a 4090 at max settings), and the pop-in from LOD model to actual model occurs so close to the character now, being at its worst when riding through dense foliage or when running through Saint Denis. I swear it wasn't like this back when it launched. I've seen some people say Rockstar broke it in an update, but I have no idea how true that is. To see what I mean, look at the bush on the right at 2:42. Notice how the full model only pops in when he's basically on top of it. It's super distracting in denser areas, and neither adjusting the in-game settings or the program file config settings seems to do anything.

If you don't play Red Dead 2 at 5120x1440p Super Duper Ultrawide you are missing out. That was the first game I played when I got this 32:9 monitor a few months back. Total immersion. Once you go 32:9 YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK TO BE BEING BLIND! I will never eva evaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa even at 42 years old go back to 16:9 EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAA again.

I still play games at 1080p because I much prefer staying capped at 144 FPS when possible over whatever little clarity difference I'll get from murdering my frame rates. The only times 1080p is a detriment is unfortunately with a lot of modern AAA games that insist on using TAA. I hate most temporal effects and they always look worse and worse at lower resolutions. For me 1080p with 4x MSAA is the sweet spot. Perfect clarity for my taste, and the visual differences between 4x and 8x MSAA are basically indistinguishable in motion and in the heat of play. Too bad so many modern AAAs are throwing real anti-aliasing out and only supporting ugly solutions like TAA and FXAA.

When you use 8xMSAA it's so close or equivalent of 4x times, example 1080p + 8xMSAA = 4K 2160p fps performance

I like to use DLAA in red dead 2 with my 4090 instead, since the TAA implementation sucks (and some things in the game require it or it looks broken). And obviously MSAA kills the frame rate and still doesn't fix everything. 4K DLAA is so nice.

proves that R* (specifically RDR2) is excellent at optimizing games. Latest games nowadays you need to use some frame generation crap just to get 60+ frames. I am looking forward to GTA 6

Try resolution scale as a way of AA. (1.25x/1.5x or higher @ 4k) And if you want/need, (for those minimal pixels that might maybe show up), throw in a 2x MSAA there.
