Zygo Review

The Zygo Audio System allows for streaming audio from your phone to an underwater headset. No more downloading mp3 files. If your phone will play it, you can stream it. Phone connects via Bluetooth to Zygo Transmitter which connects via FM to Headset which rests on your cheekbones where it vibrates clearly to your inner ear, and you can hear the audio!

There are many people whonhave issue with the headset disconnecting from the base, and battery not lasting more than a few minutes. You are lucky your works. I didn't have access to a pool when I bought mine. When I finally did get access, it was a couple of weeks past their 6 month warranty when I discovered these issues after a few uses. The only thing they offered was a replacement for $150. Others have gotten similar offers, only to experience same issues, and give up. Their product uses cheap components despite being so much more expensive.

Genius! I never even thought of being able to watch lectures, movies, docs, etc. while swimming in my swim spa! Thank you so much for this video, I was just looking for a Zygo review prior to purchase!

This is awesome. I've been struggling with the best way to watch tv in my Endless Pool. I have a waterproof tablet case with a headset jack and waterproof headphones, but it's pretty hard to see the screen through the case when its underwater. Can you please tell me exactly what box that is that you use and which table size you are using? I have a Zygo Solo on the way and definitely want to try this method. Great work.

Im sorry for the late response. It’s a fairly small tablet. It was just under 8 inches long. And it never was intended to give me a great picture or audio quality with the Zygo. About the same kind of quality as watching a movie on an 80s analog handheld tv. Just enough to hear/see to keep your mind a little more occupied during a long swim.

Thank you for your video! I have been in search of reviews for this product for some time now, and could not get a simple product review. I know the audio quality is not comparable to in-ear headphones, but how would you rate the audio quality underwater while swimming?

I had to go into my device settings to force the audio to a high level, and even then when the volume is turned as high as it can go, it is satisfactory, whereas it should've been too loud. Part of that is because I have a fairly wide head circumference and so the pressure hitting my cheekbones isn't as much as I'd prefer. But when I push down on them, it increases the perceived volume. I wish I could get more pressure on the sides.

Hi I got one and am surprised about the low audio quality. I was not looking for high-quality noise-canceling kinda quality but I’m still surprised. It’s like radio broadcast with acceptable connection. I wonder if this is normal?

I presume you used the ear plugs and used them underwater right? Even then, yes, they don't seem to be a high-quality sound. Given that our ears are designed to hear via sound waves through the air. Bypassing that to bone conduction is less than ideal for sure.

I charged once and used till the headset ran out of battery, but I could not seem to be able to charge it again. No lights are on when I plug in the micro usb cable... Why would you not use them in open water? Is it because you are watching movies and would not stay near your display? Or is there some other reason? I’m thinking of getting these to listen to my podcasts in my neighborhood pool.

For open water training it’s best to not use something that is an aid that would be a violation of open water swim rules. Which this is. For pool training, sure, whatever. Just trying to simulate real world conditions when training in that arena.

I think it’d be harder to take your phone with you open water too? And then of course if you are swimming navigable waters, you might want to be capable of hearing approaching boat horns?

I got my Zygo a couple weeks ago. To this point I have been using Aftershokz BC headphones. These things are really uncomfortable. I'm not sure I can even wear these for 15 minutes! I even had them replaced and got the larger size (and I am only an average sized guy)...still miserable to wear (especially compared to the Aftershokz). Sound quality is AM...definitely not the quality I've seen promoted on other reviews or on their website. Streaming is cool, though. I'd give them a 5/10.

I saw a swimmer with some transmitter contraption and she told me about this. I have multiple swimming headphones that require loading them with audio, so I get lazy and end up listening to the same music. This is a game changer. I do wonder if we are in the same space using ours simultaneously, whether there'll be interference.

Aftershokz are tones more comfortable and have better sound. The only thing this device has going for it over Aftershokz is streaming audio in water.

I like my Zygo because I can use my iPhone for streaming. I have owned other devices but could not stream my playlists. This has only been possible with Zygos. I have found the audio quality more than acceptable and the Zygo customer service has been very good and recently replaced my headset which seemed to be malfunctioning. As far as I can tell Zygo is the only underwater audio solution which can be linked with an iPhone.

I don’t see a switch on the transmitter to go to a different frequency so I don’t think so, but Zygo folks could answer that.

I bought mine at a local Walmart. And searching their website doesn’t show the same one. It’s smaller. I saw this on Amazon which is close: a.co/d/eGbvtqU. Just check the details and that the inside dimensions are big enough to support your needs.

Can’t review on their site, so going elsewhere to warn people. The large headset doesn’t work. They even replaced mine 2 times before the warranty ended … and it just breaks after 4 months min. First headset worked for 10 swims. Second for about 6. Third for less than 3. Can’t use it an indoor pool. Can’t use it in a large pool. Have to dry it off after use. Can’t dive deep in the water. Can’t keep it in your car. Charger teeth easily break. Can’t order a single replacement part at a cheaper price. At $300, it’s a well advertised but underdeveloped and overpriced flimsy tech. But hey, maybe 2024 will be different!
