Just got a 3.0 Premium MT at the end of April, just about to hit the 1200 break-in miles and I have a complimentary track day next Saturday. It will be my first time tracking a car, I am very excited

niice how was it? Are you happy with the track feeling? Do you want to add mods for track?
@joerobinson4844 Жыл бұрын
@@nicoking55 it was incredible. It was my first time tracking a car ever, so I don't think I pushed the car to its stock limits. First thing I want to do is put it on springs so it's a bit lower and stiffer though

Fenton, I can't express how much I appreciate your subjective but always honest reviews. It helps me feel current in a way that I can trust. For me, I've always been a sucker for light manual trans front engine RWD track cars. I cut my track teeth on that format, so in my mind, it's the standard by which all others are measured. Add an inline six to that and you get perfection IMO. It may not be the fastest, but for my money, it give the funnest, most engaging driving experience on the road.

Top 5 mods needed for any track track car; 1. Driver mod. HDPE, autocross, and more seat time around a track and canyon driving. Going fast in your street car on a highway means absolutely nothing when you don't understand the mechanics of car control, weight balance and distribution, feeling the brakes and tires on when they are about to give. 2. Upgraded brake pads and fluid 3. Stickier tires 4. Coilovers/sway bars 5. I was gonna say LSD but since modern cars like this come with an electronic one, I'd say aero. Proper splitter and wing. Power is definitely the absolute last thing anyone needs on the track. Once you push the limits of the car with stock power with said mods and are comfortable putting down consistent laptimes, then you can add power. Modern turbocharged stock cars power levels are more than adequate and pretty fast around a track as is.

How does it compare with GR86 on track? Fun aspect and handling?
@Zygrene Жыл бұрын
GR86 Premium track review will be published in a few days. TLDR - GR86 is more fun in stock form. Supra feels heavier and less eager to turn. Obviously, performance is on another level but I believe that's due to power and tire compound (PS4 vs PSS).

Hey Fenton, How would you compare the turbo lag and response below 3k rpm between this and the 718 GTS 2.5 turbo? The comments seem to suggest this one has better low end response, which I guess shouldn’t be surprising given the bigger 3.0 liter engine and twin scroll turbo. I did see your earlier comparo but don’t recall if you addressed this directly
@Zygrene Жыл бұрын
Been a while since I drove it, but I distinctly remember the GTS 2.5 having more immediate throttle response than the manual Supra. Less low end torque perhaps (torque curve) but the throttle response itself is better.
@porschegt2346 Жыл бұрын
The cayman Gts 2.5 has the Variable Vane Turbo so it acts as a small fast spooling turbo at low rpm then the vanes open up in the turbo to let more flow in up top hence the better throttle/turbo response.
@FurkanCemTurfanda Жыл бұрын
@porschegt2346 This (and all "BXX" engines) have the same tech, it's a twinscroll turbo.

There is no synthetic engine noise , you didn’t use sport mode so the suspension was soft.

Having driven a crazy track-prepped one on track at this point, would you go with a manual for a build like that ?

Why does the screen and dash flicker so much? I’ve been seeing this in a lot of videos
@johncoyle87666 ай бұрын
The pipped in noise is easy to turn off with coding but careful for what you wish for. I turned off the ASD (active sound design) on mine but ended it turning it back on in a very Matrix steak moment. The problem is the engine is simply too quite. While the stock exhaust is nice for the older ones of us, the engine is too quite even with the induction noise from my Dinan intake. The fakest of all the noises is those associated with RPM for the auto rev matching. Without them you have almost no idea what speed the engine is at without the tach. It’s simply too smooth, monotone and muted.

@@Erkkremlinklum If this helps, i had CTR 19 before but never a EVO and i find Supra is so much better in terms of engagement, MT feels like its close to direct linkage, (find a friend who has a Supra MT that's willing to let you test drive if you can) but the CTR is more smooth in terms of shifting action (personally tho i drove a MT 1st gen 86 and i can say the Supra is like another step above the CTR in terms of feel, entirely subjective tho). Get behind the wheel of MT Supra before you decide, but i waited a whole year and decided to trade up from FK8 CTR to a Supra.
