Cristie Poole this school is a Historical Black College & University. It was founded as an all girls school in Palatka, FL by Mary McCloud Bethune and later moved to Daytona Beach, FL. The current name is a result of a merger with Cookman Institute in Jacksonville, FL hence Bethune-Cookman College, became an University in 2007. The marching band was established in the early sixties and first was comprised of all men. They have a FB page you can obtain some history from.

It is fun to watch people that are passionate and good in what they do. It is fun to watch groups of people perform very well and as one. A marching band is a good example of that. They perform with a lot of togetherness and synchronicity. It is fun to watch the college marching bands march into their stadiums so that they can get ready for their football game activities. Many of the marching band members march in with their game faces on. The musicians and the dancers of those bands are geniuses because they have to memorize a lot in order to be able to perform very well and in great synchronicity whenever they perform anywhere as a group. It is great to be able to read, write, and play music. Everyone on Earth should be a member of some type of musical band.

I watched the show from top to bottom. If I'm able to do that, then the show was good. The international players anthem into the drum major entrance was nothing less than spectacular. whoever came up with that idea is brilliant. I like how they had a dance (,Lit) break before the drill. Speaking of, Bethune cookman's drilling is precise. They can literally spell/illustrate whatever they want. The 14k dancers gave me life. They went full out from open to close. The sophisticats are just that.. Sophisticated!! I love them , Lol. Shout out to the bass drums and tubas on holding it down on the dance routine

Interesting philosophy of "loud is proud" and being entertaining (dancing) is more important than musicianship and more complex charting. And yes, I have experience as a band director and one who marched the Rose Parade (world class being invited as a non-pack 10 football band). We were invited because we were great musically.
@chuckb95956 жыл бұрын
Different philosophy, mentality and audience(probably). If you grew up on corp style marching and don't have an open mind, it's difficult to understand. I've been there(corp style my whole marching career), and felt the same until I got into the culture of show style and opened my mind to it. Just my 2 cents. have a good day

Ok Marching Orders brought me here after seeing a few shows. I have been a bandhead my whole school life when I was young. I don't see the kind of entertainment we used to bring when I was in the band. Grambling Tigers 80's. We had a precicion drill at 190 steps a minute. We moved the entire time on the field. We never put instruments down to dance and we were the first band to travel international back in the day. The old Coke commercial is what drove me to that band. What I saw here was a slow march into BCU, no real precision drill, no march tune and the band stopped moving for the dancers to come on the field. I love BCU's entrance but I am not moved. The netfix show is entertaining though. I will keep watching.
@misterwillie96096 жыл бұрын
Looks like the majority of BCU enrollment in the band...I hope this students going to class, that's if they are all enrolled...Drum Line movie was 20 years ago...you need to move on.See I didn't mention FAMU.

Man this band is the most organized and crisp band out there right now. The only thing they cant do is get the audience into their show. FOR EXAMPLE DANCE MILITARY D.C.I.and SHOW BANDS YOU CAN'T JUDGE UNLESS YOU'RE IN THESE AND NOT MANY COULD SO SOMEBODY GO AND DO THIS PROJECT AND THEN SAY WHAT IS WHAT CAUSES YOU JUST WOULDN'T KNOW AND HONOISTLY I DON'T THINK ANYONE HAS THAT KIND OF TALENT . TALK IS CHEAP SO IF YOU ARE WILLING GET A GO PRO A KZbin CHANNEL AND GO MARCHING BAND STYLE SURFING.💙
