I thinks that the power of the film. Because we feel for Dany, you go thru the movie becoming synched to her emotions. So at the end, even when you feel horrified by what has happened, the movie manipulates you into being happy for Dany because that has been missing for her the whole time. The film tricks you into falling for the cult just like Dany did. Because that is exactly what cults do, manipulate vulnerable people into believing that being with them is the best option no matter the cost.

In the beginning, Dani talks to a friend on her phone about her relationship with Christian and this friend seemed to be very supportive and kind towards Dani. She even told her that if Christian doesn't want to be with her because of her "baggage", then good riddance, and that being in a relationship means being vulnerable. So... it's not like Dani doesn't have anyone, she still has sane friends with good intentions towards her.

Im American born in the US but am also Scandinavian, and know alot about my viking ancestors...The "blood eagle" death was huge back in the day, a gory ritual that Viking warriors are said to have performed on their most hated enemies.
